Paper Based Power Skin?

Not sure if this is the right place to post this, but I have a fairly simple question.

My number one OC is my own namesake, a young crime fighter with control of origami constructs. Is there any chance that the minionmancer class will have a paper kind of skin one could apply to it's peer effects?

Sounds cool, but it's a pretty niche look. I'd seriously doubt it would be added anytime soon. Especially since Commanders won't even be in at go live.

I agree that "paper skin" might be kind of a niche thing. But if MWM can get something like that working as a skin texture for PCs then there shouldn't be anything to stop them from offering that option for henchmen/minion customization as well.

As far as resource concerns

As far as resource concerns for minions, I'd bet paper skin is a pretty safe bet :)

One of the great characters

One of the great characters out of the Teenagers From Outer Space supplements was ... Ito Origami ... master of folded paper martial arts. One of the pictures showed his PAPER sword cutting through the STEEL sword of a pirate girl as if the steel sword was "nothing" at all (Origami was even yawning in the picture while the pirate girl was shocked/dumbfounded).

Oh! I'd never heard of that. Sounds awesome! Man I can't wait to get a hold of the character builder so I can see what/is/possible!

I think it's likely different

I think it's likely different peoples used different things. Faramir’s description of the archives at Minas Tirith: “there are moreover in our treasuries many things preserved: books and tablets writ on withered parchments, yea, and on stone, and on leaves of silver and of gold, in divers characters.” And when Gandalf visits these same archives, he reads about Isildur on a scroll.

Go Bot, go. Another 4-year old reddit post in response to an odd question about whether Tolkein's Middle Earth had paper or not.

https://www.reddit.com/r/tolkienfans/comments/4pmox7/was_there_paper_in_middle_earth_or_were_they/

Two bot posts on two different threads at the same time lead me to believe this guy is a bad actor.

Double post, I know... but

Double post, I know... but I don't think I saw this thread last year when it was current.

As far as making origami minions and pets, I think that's a GREAT idea. But like Soulwind said, that's probably a bit too niche to justify the development effort.

However,

If they spend a bit more development effort to create an entire paper-based package that has paper-based aesthetics and theme to it, then enough people will want it to justify the effort. Paper airplane-based range attacks, origami props like swords, flails, fans, books and talismans. The list could go on.

In other words, let's put this into business speak:
Suppose there are 100,000 customers. If it costs $20,000 in development effort to create origami minions that 2% of your customer base wants, then your effort needs to have a value of $10 per customer in order for it to be justified.
However, if you spend $60,000 to create an entire package of paper-based 'stuff' to broaden the appeal to 30% of your customer base, then your effort needs to have a value of only $2 per customer. So you are actually selling more people more stuff for less. That's how the economies of production scale come into play. Of course, no one knows how many people will actually be interested in what things, and how much they would be willing to pay for them. That's where market research comes into play.

Whether the package is sold as a cash shop purchase or rolled into an expansion update, that cost of development and that value remains the same and factors into the business decisions of how best to deliver it.

I might be willing to try a paper/origami based character if there were enough related items and effects in the game to support it. I managed to try a little bit of everything back when CoH was "officially" running.

During my time playing CoH I was fortunate enough to be a "MMO whale". I'm pretty sure I bought at least one of everything Paragon Studios offered for sale. There were a few things I bought that I never really used, but my thinking on that was that I was helping to support the game whether I personally benefited or not. The Devs at Paragon Studios publicly announced several times that they were able to add certain things to CoH based solely on having enough people buy their microtransaction stuff.

So in the long run I plan to be as much of a "whale" for CoT as I can be because ultimately I figure that's the best chance I have to get the MWM Devs to create the things I'd want to have in the game.
