I don't care if you read or respond to this post but I will answer your question as to why Shadow Elusive doesn't get to use the same "tone" you're accusing me of: He's a Dev, period.
Sure you might not think it's "fair" that he must maintain a higher standard here than I do but as you've effectively pointed out what I say here doesn't really matter one way or the other. On the other hand what he says (and just as importantly the WAY that he says it) is VITALLY IMPORTANT towards maintaining the confidence of the overall playerbase in MWM's ability to deliver a functional game.
If Shadow Elusive (and the other Devs collectively) don't care enough to check themselves appropriately even when someone like me deserves to get yelled at from them then I fear for the long term viability of this game. I don't have to "know better" but he does.

I see no problem with his post. Sometimes you just gotta be blunt to make sure there's no misunderstanding.
Could the delivery use some sugarcoating? Could he have picked nicer words? Yeah, maybe.
But I'm always one of the ones accusing the devs of being coy or noncommittal. I'll take kinda mean but definitive over polite and useless.

I don't really think it was "mean" so much as "definitive." If he said it any other way, then people would still have kept it on their "maybe" list, like they do with all of their unreasonable dream features that they know deep down will never happen but whine about on the forums anyway.
Actually, if you guys could do a whole list of "Things Definitely Not To Expect, EVER" and just ruthlessly crush some souls, I'd be down. I'll make popcorn, grab a beer, and we can make a night of it. I just finished rewatching the first two seasons of Veronica Mars and I'm desperately trying to find any reason not to start the third.
I dare say we've gone past dead horses and are now discussing the label we'd like to put on the glue.
Perhaps we can move on to more productive lines of debate? What would people like to see most from MWM's "character creation in action"?

You had the perfect chance to say "dead centaurs" and you blew it.
Frack.
Yeah, I've got to own that. To make up for it, I give you this: Centaur Heart Attack.

I accept. In return, have this totally legit picture of Tim Tebow in his natural state:

Your "take it or leave it, I don't care what you think" attitude doesn't endear you to anyone. You are way too easy set off by whatever perceived slight (even if it is simply in your own head). And the first and only reaction you ever have is to throw insults back. Louder and more pervasively, until people just get tired of disagreeing.
A dev made a clear statement as to what would be done with body models. Ok, it is disappointing I admit. Was it a little flippant in tone, yeah maybe, but it wasn't full tilt "Lothic is a moron and his ideas are dumb, why would some idiot even think to ask this" level. Remember, we are still dealing with a full volunteer corps of developers, not some coordinated company that has their crap together. Is there room for debate as to what can happen in the future? Probably, we do not know how this was planned internally. Simply equating alternate body models with what happened with wings in CoH is not apples to apples in terms of complexity. It is definitely a topic to be discussed as early as possible in the development process to allow it to happen at some point. It sounds like WMW did some investigation into alternate body models. At some point they decided to not go that route.
If you are going to claim that a dev is being unprofessional in the manner in which they publicly express their thoughts, do something more than just declare that they are unprofessional. Make a post with quotes and links to all of their conduct to expose their behavior. Didn't do any of that yet? Hmm, sounds like you have some work to do beyond making a claim then tossing it over the wall for others to "deal with".
To be clear, I do not like the tone of your posts. I more than likely do not like you. Your knee jerk response will be "I don't care if you like me or not. I tell it like it is" or some crap. Being overtly rude to people who are working on a project that may bring some leisurely joy in the future does not embolden them to work harder or cave to your desires. I am eagerly awaiting the next four month tour at sea.

Brilliant!
And also brilliant!
Spurn all ye kindle.
All I need to point out is that you actually spend a lot of time responding to someone you claim to "dislike" here. If I actually "disliked" anyone here I wouldn't bother. *shrugs*

Eh, I just call them like I see them... Shadow's post was over the top and he knows it.
S**t happens of course - like I said maybe he was just having a bad day and decided to use me as a punching bag. Who knows...

I simply think it's funny he was "kinda mean but definitive" about the side topic we WEREN'T primarily talking about.
Devs being blunt against the topic at hand is one thing; Devs being blunt just to spit in the wind is still semi-pathetic.

Ironically I'd be against this just because it would be a waste of Dev time and resources. A few years from now likely half the items on such a "list" would probably be in the game in some form or fashion regardless. *shrugs*
Besides no set of self respecting Devs would willing choose to itemize a list of features they CAN'T accomplish in a game. It'd be like creating an "anti-resume" against themselves - why would they ever want to do that?

If any such list of requested-but-denied/delayed features were to be published, I think the far more useful information would be the associated reasoning and what might trigger a review of that decision.
Feature:
Status; Reason; Conditions to Reconsider
Centaur Body Model:
Rejected for CoT; workload complexity of new models/animations/costuming and a complete overhaul of the avatar builder to allow user control over them dramatically exceeds any business value for the foreseeable future; Infeasible until CoT2 or complete engine overhaul and $100M annual sales.
4-Arm Body Model:
Rejected for CoT up to issue 10; workload complexity of new models/animations/costuming and modest adjustments of the avatar builder exceeds any business value for the foreseeable future; Consider for CoT2 or after reaching $25M annual sales and completing all other higher-priority player requests already planned into the first ten issues.
Custom Emanation Point(s) up to a max of 4, allowing placement by player at position(s) within 1 meter of the body, and the ability to associate each point for use by one or more powers:
On hold but part of future plans; the team hasn't figured out a clean way to fit the configuration process into the avatar builder or to disallow regions for point placement; Reevaluate feasibility after launch of game and conversion to full-time development studio.
I actually assume the Devs -already- keep such a list, at least an informal version of one for their own use. I simply believe it's the kind of info that would never be formally publicly published for all sorts of reasons. As I said before it would effectively be an "anti-resume" against MWM.

I would think such a list exists, too. We will - given some time - be able to clone most of it as we could for CoH, using forum tidbits and simply looking at the game itself (modding hooks, how parts of the avatar builder interact / limit each other, and so forth).
Still, I believe it's fine and even confidence-boosting for MWM to show parts or all of such behind-the-scenes info, at least as long as solid reasoning was behind the decisions...as this case of body models seems to have, for now. Sometimes the "features" or "opportunities" I decide not to pursue, and the reasons why, can demonstrate focus on true priorities and the foresight to avoid over-committing / similar pitfalls when on limited resources. While not on a resume of accomplishments, I see it as a good answer to an interview question, such as "please describe your experiences in keeping or getting projects on track, and specifically the methods you used".
I imagine that MWM communication of those reasons will happen piecemeal, as is traditional for dev studios, and only when pressured by the players...and I suppose both direct and calm answers would be the best, though I'll take mildly-hyperbolic directness over silence any day.
Would it count if the interviewee was wearing one of those "The beatings will continue until morale improves" T-shirts?
