Marvel Theory: Did Odin Collect All The Infinity Stones First?
Collect them? Nah. Tracked them down, maybe. Kept an eye on them to make sure who had what stone.
With his wisdom he probably wouldn't want the hassle of wielding them. Every other God-like denizen would be hunting him down.

Yes that is literally why Odin gave up his eye in Norse mythology.
I believe he also had to hang from a tree for nine days.
Actually it went more like this:
Odin’s quest for wisdom is never-ending, and he is willing to pay any price, it seems, for the understanding of life’s mysteries that he craves more than anything else. On one occasion, he hanged himself, wounded himself with his spear, and fasted from food and drink for nine days and nights in order to discover the runes.
On another occasion, he ventured to Mimir’s Well – which is surely none other than the Well of Urd[1] – amongst the roots of the world-tree Yggdrasil. There dwelt Mimir, a shadowy being whose knowledge of all things was practically unparalleled among the inhabitants of the cosmos. He achieved this status largely by taking his water from the well, whose waters impart this cosmic knowledge.
When Odin arrived, he asked Mimir for a drink from the water. The well’s guardian, knowing the value of such a draught, refused unless the seeker offered an eye in return. Odin – whether straightaway or after anguished deliberation, we can only wonder – gouged out one of his eyes and dropped it into the well. Having made the necessary sacrifice, Mimir dipped his horn into the well and offered the now-one-eyed god a drink.[2][3]

Most religions take their deities much too seriously and tend to write their stories seriously as a consequence.
We do know that Odin liked his drink, more so than Thor did.

I was a mythology junkie all through my early school years. My favorite is still Greek, as that was what I first studied. That’s followed by Norse then Egyptian. Babylonian/Sumerian/Mesopotamian stuff is cool (I always liked Enkidu in particular). But the Greek mythology has always been the most appealing to me.
Its interesting how the Sumerian mythology slowly morphed into the modern religions we have now. If it wasn't for the nomadic Semitics . . . . .
If you like Sumerian mythology mixed with cyberpunk, Snow Crash is a great read!
In a brief scene in Avengers Assemble, there is a shot, on Asgaard of an infinity gauntlet in a cabinet.
the (fan) theory goes that this was a gauntlet made by Odin during his great conquests with Hela. He had the Space stone already (Tesseract) and used this to travel the realms and maraud about. He then decided he was going to gather the rest, only to discover the price for the Soul stone would be the life of Hela (that which he loved the most) and this is the REAL reason he banished her to hell - to remove the temptation from himself and keep her safe....

But remember, Hella called the guantlet a fake. Maybe that guantlet was a "test" version?
or she just didnt know what she was dealing with - she also said the tesseract was "not bad" and walked right past it.
If she was stuck in hell all that time she wont have known what Odin had done and acquired after she was gone.
Was she talking about the stone inside or the fact that the container allowed someone to pick up the stone and use it?
You know, they never talk about her time in hell, I'd've liked to have had a vague sense of what that was

Well given that she became the ruler of hell, I'd say that she is one badass chick.
What she did to Asgard was probably just a warm-up for her.
