Need help with a wasp-themed heroine who draws from the Spider-Man archetype

Just thought I'd see if I can refer to the community again, it's always nice to talk to others.

An idea had for a hero is a female Spider-Man archetype, but I didn't want to go the full route and have her be a spider person. So I chose wasps.

Powers:

- Enhanced strength, speed, durability agility, reflexes.
- Ability to cling on to surfaces.
- Enhanced senses via feeling the disturbances in the bio-electric field.
- Bio-electricity generation, done via channeling the electricity through and around her body.
- Flight, via synthetic tech wings.

So I figured I was off to a good start, making someone who draws yet differs from the Spidey mold. Similar to how Spider-Man can't innately shoot webs, she can't innately fly. Rather, the wings are of technological origin, she powers them via her bio-electricity, and her superior agility and senses help leverage the use of it

Backstory:

What I have so far is that she was originally from Australia. Then, at the age 14, her family moved to the United States because of her dad. He decided to start a company dedicated to salvaging equipment from superhero battles, and there's a lot more action in the United States. Her dad tragically died, leaving her with just her mother, and she decided to become super.

As said, she draws from the Spidey archetype. Meaning that her personality is that of a snarker/quipper, someone who jokes at the expense of her opponents, and when she drops the jokes, you know she means it and her opponents are in deep trouble.

But I'm kind of struggling outside of that. I'm willing to discuss with anyone willing to help.

The things I need help on are:

- Her name. I was going to go with "Abispa" (a species of wasps in Australia) but I don't think it sounds that cool, nor is it catchy/memorable.
- Her backstory. I kinda want to go with something other than "stung by a radioactive/genetic/mystical wasp". And I'm trying to figure out how her journey to superhero began other than her dad's death.
- The wings. I decided she would fly but couldn't do it innately in order to show she's more than just her powers (and it'd be weird for her to either sprout wings or have to deal with them all the time), but how did she get those wings anyways?

If anyone wants to help, please step forward. I'll gladly discuss and work with you.

Thanks!

Well, this sounds a lot like

Well, this sounds a lot like The Wasp without shrinking, with her dad being like Vulture from Spider-Man: HC.

Stinger. Yellow Stinger. The Black Wasp. The Red Hornet.

There's always the idea that she's just a mutant and she obtained the wings as part of her hero persona or a way to travel about.

Her father was scavenger of alien tech. After her dad's death she could've gone through some of the salvage, in doing so, she was injected with a slimy looking slime that coursed through her veins as her dad likely didn't know what any of the tech really did or how dangerous it could be.

There she obtained the abilities.

After figuring out she obtained the abilities, and still not quite the hero, she notices the alien tech wings and goes from there. Perhaps a boy she has the hots for was seen on the news and in danger.

She has to get there quick and made a make shift disguise. After which she perfected it, and really went into trying to make a name for herself.

How she did it? A techie friend, or maybe her dad didn't want her to go to collage and obtaining a worthless degree, so she had some engineering/computer skills and used them to reverse engineer some of the tech.

Her mother, being a nihilist sociopath, who never really loved her father, ignores her as she tries to nab a new man to support her, as her father died young and hadn't thought to obtain life insurance at all.

So that gives some good squabble time between mother and daughter and leaves the mom as a villain of a different sort for the new super hero.

Seeing that she 'decided' to

Seeing that she 'decided' to become a hero...that sounds like a techno origin to me. The wings are part of a super suit she was working on and they can fold up when not in use.
The 'stinger' is a dart she shoots from her wrist. but she has a few bigger weapons for the bulletproof types. Her suit acts like an exoskeleton, giving her a degree of super strength - not a massive amount but she can lift about a thousand pounds is she wants to (spidey level).
I see her as a ranger with armored defenses (not available at launch, so you will need Tertiary powers)

tiger wasp
hunter wasp

Alternatively, she could be the DragonFly (if you are not married to the Wasp concept)

Actually, she's not a

Actually, she's not a complete tech character. All of her abilities besides the wings are innate. I wanted to make one of those heroes who use both powers and gadgets.

OK, so mechanical wings then. How do you see the sting working? I'm assuming that will be her main attack.
The armor comes from a wasps natural protective shell.

I think the Spider-Man part

I think the Spider-Man part you can take is the whole youth and the personality of the character.

Just running with all these

Just running with all these ideas...If the Mother is a "sociopath", perhaps a sibling (or step sibling) is in constant need of rescue/protection from the Mother who is placing the child in dangerous situations. Possibly with an eye on a zesty inheritance or maybe because she loves the drama related to continued interaction with EMT, Hospitals, Police (Factitious disorder by proxy). Creating tension between the hero's desire to help the world at large vs simply managing her home life.
Wasps don't die from their sting. Perhaps this could be a theme that she uses to go past the inherent codependent loop she may be caught in with her family. She can help both herself and others... One interesting possibility is the Mother is a brilliant (but evil) toxicologist which is where the hero gets the tech for her sting. Adding another layer of meaning behind the power itself.
