Epic Level Up Effects!

Just a quick thing.

The Old City had an amazing level up effect! It felt epic and special each time.

I just want to suggest CoT have a similar kind of effect on level.

But since CoT can do one better, how about an alignment-linked level up effect. Now since it's not red vs blue.

Legalist = more blue, lawless = more yellow
Honorable = stars effects, dishonorable = swords effects
Merficul = rings, violent = dark circles

Idk, I'm not good at generic effects. But I think it'd be a nice twist.

Totally agree! From Day 1 to shutdown, I LOVED the Old Game's level up effect...especially when I hadn't paid attention to my xp bar for awhile and *boom* it just came out of nowhere.

This is going to sound a bit cray...but the visual effect always reminded me of Schoolhouse Rock.

I loved leveling up in the middle of a tough fight. Your health is low, your end is failing, then BOOM back to full!

Levelups in CoX just felt like a resurgence of power you know? Getting a level up reignited the fires to keep going for another mission or two

I agree with the others that I'd like the moment of levelling to be something epic. It really felt rewarding in the old game, and it was a 'big' enough effect that teammates could easily see it had happened and 'gratz' you, even in the midst of battle. It would be a bonus if the effect were even more epic when you hit max level.

I'd just like to add along with this a request that when you have levelled and there are some character development decisions to be made (e.g. choose a new power, add new slots) that there be a persistent and easily noticed indicator on the UI somewhere reminding you that you haven't done this yet. Again, the old game did this pretty well: noticeable without being intrusive.

Spurn all ye kindle.

Let's not forget this

Let's not forget this continued after hitting max level. The fact that once in a while you got the 'level up power boost' while doing max level content was a good feeling. You also couldn't really game it to happen at 'the right moment'.

Wait, what? In the old game you'd still get level-up animations after hitting 50? I don't recall that at all. What would trigger it?

Yep, would love to see an

Yep, would love to see an occasional visual reward and boost even beyond max level. Maybe XP based, and/or as certain achievements are earned, or bonus raid objectives are done? I suppose there could be different tiers of this effect, to ensure that the rarer, top tier version retains a special feel to it.

As reference, Rift's Planar Attunement point gain has a subdued but still nice visual and audible effect (but no temp stat boost) that tends to occur a few times per regular XP level, and beyond max level.

I'm not 100% sure it was there at launch, but your xp didn't go away. If you fulfilled the xp requirement for 49-50 again you didn't level but got the fanfare, the heal and the buffs all over again.

I played CoH fairly regularly through its entire 8.5 years and I honestly don't remember it working that way. *shrugs*

What I recall is that when you reached level 50 with a character your XP bar would remain pegged full and you essentially never earned another point of XP. I certainly don't recall periodically getting the "level up" reward after "re-earning" the 49-50 XP again. For what it's worth I spent maybe 90% of my absolute total time playing CoH with several of my main level 50 characters so I would have likely seen what you're claiming here hundreds of times if it actually worked that way.

Are you sure you aren't thinking about a different game that might have worked that way? Otherwise you might have been the singular beneficiary of a bug that apparently only worked for you.

P.S. To be clear I'm not necessarily against the idea of having some kind of periodic "level up" type boost happen even to maxed out characters in CoT. I'm just making the point that I'm reasonably sure that was not a feature of CoH.

Are you sure? I played from 2005 to closure with plenty of time playing characters after they hit max and I never saw that.

Wait what? Am I crazy? I have distinct memories of this! Did I change parallel dimensions again like when I learned the Berenstein Bears had suddenly always been the Berenstain bears?

I don't remember any effects after level up but I like the idea. Not having a regular heal buff is almost a punishment for reaching max level

I don't recall CoX doing that

I don't recall CoX doing that either.

STO does, though. I assume CO does as well but it's been too long since I played it to remember.

I remember the first time i saw this animation ! it was like a firework for me ^^ i said to my mate "Hey wait, i saw something marvelous ! but... i don't know what isi, it made some music, some stars and flashs !" .
My mate told me i gain a level and that was the beginning of my adventure :) I remember my first level up and my first 50 lvl up :) Both give wonderful emotions !
I hope CoT will provide the same kind of thing, making this thing a great moment.

(Of course, this time, I'll be less candid ^^)

No recollection of post max

No recollection of post max level power ups but I wouldn't object to it in CoT as long as it was random and couldn't really be gamed/exploited.
I also like the idea of alignment specific level up buffs.
Expand this to buffs or
temporary toys related to faction levels with the specific buff/toy related to the faction itself. Adds a little flavor to experience.
