This week we have a little something put together by one of Loremasters, Jack "Olantern" Snyder. In it he describes where we came up with the ideas for four of the most iconic villain groups in Titan City: Scorpion, The Regency, The Black Rose and the Five Dragons.
You can find it here.
Feel free to discuss it below.

I'm curious to see if Scorpion will subvert some of the typical expectations, much like how the smaller scorpions are the most dangerous/poisonous.

Thanks for the link!
Nice summaries of several bad guy groups. I can't wait to thwart them in game. ^_^
Perhaps summaries of some of the good guy groups next time?

Ooo, I do enjoy reading the various insights into how particular parts of the game get developed, such as Lore. Good stuff, keep it up. And thank you for the update!
Still looking forward to Scorpion the most of these I think: they've got it all, magic, large-scale, overtly and obnoxiously evil ;)

Nice lore update! Haven’t been reading all of these just because I like to go through it “in game” but this was a nice teaser for what’s in store! Thanks much to all the writers and their work developing the depth of storylines we have to look forward to!
"A sad spectacle. If they be inhabited, what a scope for misery and folly. If they be not inhabited, what a waste of space." ~ Thomas Carlyle
There's not much lore behind the groups themselves, it's more the inspirations for their creation and themes. Well worth a read unless you don't even want what enemy groups exist to be spoiled.
Don't forget the "We Think We're Heroes, but We're Really Terrorists" group, out there looking to steal, intimidate, and even kill, in the name of protecting their group of choice.
Shocking Blu
Good stuff! As with the game mechanics, I appreciate the work and research that's going into the foundations of the lore.
Spurn all ye kindle.
I'm really looking forward to interacting with the Black Rose. They appeal to me on several levels - I've always enjoyed the organized crime types, as long as they have lines they don't cross.
An infinite number of tries doesn't mean that any one of those tries will succeed. I could flip an infinite number of pennies an infinite number of times and, barring genuine randomness, they will never come up "Waffles".
I soo need the game now!

That's the players, surely?
I feel ambiguously bad about that one. They were sort of based on Black Bloc.

If you have to hide your identity to protect yourself from the consequences of your actions because it's breaking the law, you're doing something wrong.

Will Villainous Characters get the chance to rise in the ranks of scorpion like the villeins could rise up with Arachnos in CoV.

Scorpion is basically explicitly designed for this. It is a ruthless terrorist organization determined to rule the world.

There is always room for more. I would like a small white mouse determined to rule the world. Amerikatt needs an arch enemy!
PS the update was way cool!

But scorpions are not poisonous, they're venomous?
????
Remember venom is injected, poison is ingested. Both can be considered toxic.

I would like a badge for beating up a lot of Black Rose thugs: Death Mark. You've hit them hard enough to get a price on your head.

I'm looking forward to some good ol' story-telling in CoT.
Outside of a few TFs and the Freakshow, not much from the Other Game really did it for me.
The ability to so-often alter one's alignment, along with high-quality stories and background, should be incredibly engrossing.

I'm personally hoping that the storytelling will be along the same lines as CoH. So much of what made leveling a character fun to me in CoH was a mixture of recognizable characters with distinct personalities, overarching plots in given zones, and the way that the storytelling was basically always zany and coming at you from weird angles, but never quite unbelievable or stupid in the context of the world it took part in.
An infinite number of tries doesn't mean that any one of those tries will succeed. I could flip an infinite number of pennies an infinite number of times and, barring genuine randomness, they will never come up "Waffles".
There was a neat story line in the Nerva Archipelago that tried to convince your villain that he/she was a nemesis robot. Of course that couldn't be the case in the end because the game couldn't suddenly change your character like that, but it was a fun investigation style story that still sticks with me.
One my regrets from CoH/V was not investing enough time in the Rogue Isles. From what I did play through, the writing generally seemed better, more coherent, more immersive. That's not to say that I didn't like the blueside stuff, I most certainly did, but redside seemed to have some amazing storyarcs, especially the Patron content. To be fair, it might've been partially attributed to the majority of it just being absolutely new to me.
I'd say it's what happens when it's new content. They knew what worked and what didn't.
It's not really surprising that it was more coherent on the redside. Blueside had most of its contacts and ideas based on whatever thoughts cropped up in the writers' heads, with a bit of direction from the editors and developers, alongside an internal wiki. Redside came about well after Blueside was established, meaning the writing team had already hit their cooperative stride with the editors and devs, and they already had a cast of characters and factions they could pull from for the sake of writing interesting stories. This lent itself to a strong internal consistency, frequent characters showing up, and a more unified tone overall. Stuff that happens later in development consistently has a stronger tone and a better sense of what makes it tick; it's why Arachnos always felt like it had a real theme to it, rather than just being generic badguys, even when they were being generic badguys. It's part of why I found the Arachnos epic archetypes so interesting.
An infinite number of tries doesn't mean that any one of those tries will succeed. I could flip an infinite number of pennies an infinite number of times and, barring genuine randomness, they will never come up "Waffles".
I sure hope so. I'm more of a villian person myself. I want to rise in the ranks, then overthrow the leadership and take over for myself.
What about starting your own gang from the ground up and overthrowing people?
An infinite number of tries doesn't mean that any one of those tries will succeed. I could flip an infinite number of pennies an infinite number of times and, barring genuine randomness, they will never come up "Waffles".
I like all three Villain groups especially cybernetically enhanced classic mobsters of the Black Rose! I will enjoy thwarting all three groups in city of titans...
Hi Jack "Olantern Synder…. Happy Holidays! was curious as to when the official release date if for City of Titans? I hope there will be a link to click on to register and "buy" into the game, so we can partake in the new adventures that await us in COT !! Thanks Jack.... Alan Rowan

There is no official release date. Until issue zero is out there won't be a possibility to buy the game and even then, the only way as a non-backer or tester to play the game, will be the second chance, which opening date isn't known.
You are going to have to be patient for now.
