Harbor Patrol

Near the southern end of the bridge that carried I-128 over Steward's Bay was a small grouping of little used docks. Too small for modern day cargo ships, they often sat unused. However, this early morning, that was not the case. Though the sky was lit, the sun was still nearly an hour from cresting the horizon. A trio of speedboats approached and two pulled into the docks to disgorge heavily armed men and women. Most of them dispersed to cover the area around the water while several pairs began patrolling the stacks of cargo containers.

Once the area was secured, the third speedboat docked and let off a single passenger, a grim-faced man walking with the assistance of a straight cane. He looked about, then turned back to the water and held up a device. Unseen by normal eyes, the device let off a series of IR bursts. A few minutes later, what appeared to be several old harbor passenger craft approached, trundling towards the docks at a sedate pace. As the ships approached, the guards began looking around more, their tension levels growing.

The modified crafts docked and let off a number of workers who, while not guards, were still armed with pistols. They took up positions along the docks as the grim-faced man approached the first ship. At that moment, several pairs of headlights illuminated near the docking facility entrance as diesel engines rumbled to life and air brakes squealed upon release. Four unmarked semi trucks approached along the water's edge and turned to line up in the corridors formed by the cargo containers.

Soon enough, the purpose for the impressive amounts of security and secrecy were revealed as lines of chained individuals began disembarking from the passenger ships. They marched at a slow pace along the docks towards the trucks and God only knows what fate.

Observing all of this was a lone individual who'd taken up position near the top of a stack of cargo containers. He sat on his haunches, the bottoms of his feet glowing with dark amber energy that held him fast to the side of a container. Sam 'Whipcrack' Beckett had watched the entire process through a small set of binoculars while an IR camera, also attached to the container, recorded it. Tucking away the binoculars, he left the camera in place and shot out a strand of psychokinetic energy, attaching it to the container. He descended slowly as two of the patrolling guards approached. Whipcrack hung upside down, knees wide and feet bottoms touching as he reached out with his free hand to tap one of the guards on the shoulder. "Hey buddy, you got a light?"

The guard whipped around, his rifle already coming up, but Whipcrack was faster. A glowing fist shot out and cracked the guard across the jaw, imparting a small burst of concussive energy that guaranteed unconsciousness. Before the other guard could pull their trigger, Whipcrack swung on the strand and flipped over their head to land behind them. The guard turned to follow, but before they could pull their trigger, the hero had shot out two strands that wrapped them and their weapon up. He wrapped up the other guard and hauled them to the top of the container stack, then went on the prowl for the rest of the guards.

A lone line of movement in

A lone line of movement in the water could be seen, barely visible in the apex between the last of the night sky and dawn as an aquatic silhouette approached the first speedboat.

A slight churning is heard, barely detectable amidst the hum of the activity of the dock, before suddenly a geyser of pressurized water would gush up from under the speedboat, launching the watercraft up into the air, and at such an angle where it would fall onto the second with a crash and explosion.

Launching from the bay at the same moment and landing on the dock, would be a woman, of Hispanic descent with a lean figure, a practical suit of dark blues, white, teal, and black, and an exposed back baring a now glowing cobalt tattoo or brand of clear mystical origin.

Jet black hair matted to her head and a dangerous look in her now glowing eyes, the woman raises her arms to will water to rise in a wave behind her, and thrusting downward to meet rushing guards, hopefully scattering them for a second attack.

As a guard turned to look at

As a guard turned to look at the display of rising water he failed to notice the black oil like mass rising up behind. That is till his face and arms were grabbed in the goo. His struggling ended in a quick cracking of the vertebrae in his neck.

Unknown let the corpse fall as he took on a more human form. Then fear entered the alien mind seeing the display of Hydrokinetics. Water was a weakness one he was willing to risk being so close to the docks. But a threat with water powers?

Looking down perhaps he shouldn’t have killed so quickly. Still the criminals need elimination. Manifesting blades he makes a clear fighting stance. Better to draw foes to him then give chase and end up to close to that water manipulator.

The large ray turned toward

The large ray turned toward the disturbance, propelling itself at increasing speed through the water of the bay. It breached the surface at a high angle, and as it descended it twisted, morphing into a more humanoid form, which struck, feet first, one of the guards at the landward end of the dock. The guard, knocked backward, also spasmed as if struck by a taser.

Recognizably human now, except for the fading scales, and clad in a dark green wetsuit, the former ray bounced to his feet and struck another guard. This time the spark of electricity was plainly visible. "I am Stingray. Welcome to Titan City," he announced with a Cuban accent. "Please lay down your weapons and produce the keys to these chains!"

Eyeing Stingray with a bit of

Eyeing Stingray with a bit of curiosity and a tad of annoyance, the hydrokinetic woman rolls forward with a shout, bringing water forward with her to act as a sort of shield and to clear away a spray of bullets sent for the other aquatic hero.

Her voice betrays a slight Spanish accent as she almost barks. “Less negotiating, more fighting. We need to secure those crates and shot down their vehicles, or they’ll just pick up and do this again.” She would finish her statement abruptly, as she wills a pressurized hose-like jet of water to sail into a gunman fleeing for a crate, the thud and din of metal audible across the area.

With that, she begins to move towards he first crate, using the water pulled around her dorm her initial wave like a sort of well for her attacks.

Whipcrack shook his head at

Whipcrack shook his head at the sudden appearance of three other heroes. "Well, so much for trying to do things quietly."

He shrugged and fired out two elastic strands at the towering cargo containers. They struck and yanked him skyward, sending him flying in an arc to land amidst a small knot of guards that had taken cover behind a concrete bulwark and were laying down full-auto hate. Whipcrack swept his arms wide and then together while generating strands charged with concussive energy. The explosive strands swept across the guards, impacting with a series of loud cracks that sent them flying. He then flung himself skywards again.

Swinging from a crane. Whipcrack landed next to Unknown and immediately spotted the corpse at the alien swarm's feet. "Damnit Unknown, we've talked about this. No killing!"

“I heard and thought about it. Chose not to care these kind of criminals are an infection that needs to be removed. Small crime, despite criminals I won’t kill. These types have funds, resources, they can do better and refuse to. So I show no mercy. The infection needs to be removed.”

His faceless head tilts down to the body then to the other heroes “For now I play your rules only use blunt force. The others were to loud, changes tactical needs. Was planning on capturing the last now need to make sure one survives so no killing is better. For now.” The blades shift to batons and he runs at the ones opening firing his body harding in areas forming combat armor.

"Vehicles, I can see-"

"Vehicles, I can see-" Stingray ducked under the burst from his third opponent - "but what do you know about these crates-" came up and grabbed the guard's assault rifle by the handguard, diverting the rest of the burst into the first truck's engine - "that I don't?" He completed his spin with a smash from his elbow into the guard's temple.

The woman would make a move to will the water around her in a sort of gyro and and shape it in a band outwards, sending a second group of guards sprawling back and preventing them from making a reprisal attack.

“Human traffickers, i’ve been tracing them for weeks, we need to open those crates and make sure these people get out.” She would answer back, and will the water on the guards to turn to ice, and temporarily keep them locked down to the concrete.

Unknown took a few shots from two guards before the fell to his blunt attacks. Then he looks to the hydro kinetic. “I can cut them open.”

His right arm became a razor sharp crystal blade. “Just keep that ice and water away from me.”

With a quick look for any other threats. “Let’s eliminate the hostiles first.”

In the face of the multi-hero

In the face of the multi-hero assault, the guards began falling back towards the slave ship, forming a cordon between the heroes and their boss. As they closed ranks, two stepped forwards and released their Skorpion machine pistols to draw Milkor 'Six-Pack' grenade launchers. With several THWUMPS, they fired a mix of incendiary and explosive grenades at the heroes.

----------------------------------------

Swinging towards the cordon, Whipcrack unfortunately managed to swing directly into the path of one of the explosive grenades. It exploded and sent him flying backwards. He slammed into a cargo container hard enough to rock it upwards, leaving a dent several feet deep. While his armor protected him from the worst of it, the dual impact severely stunned Whipcrack and he peeled out of the hole slowly, landing on the ground with a dull thud.

Seeing the hero sent flying

Seeing the hero sent flying into the cargo crates, the woman moved to create a barrier of water over the hero and herself as she moved towards him, pushing out out in a pressurized wave in order to hopefully route them and push them back.

“Get up, you’re not dead yet!” She urges, as she moves to offer him a shoulder to get up.

“We need to finish this.”

Unknown was very resistant to most standard weapons. Having a semi-fluid body makes bullets almost useless. Grenades on the other hand were more of a threat.

With rapid zig zagging charge he runs up to the Guards and pound two into submission with the blunt patrons.

Up to the point where half his body was blown off and the rest of him flew back. Much like the t-1000 from the terminator 2 movie he lets out a non-human like scream and splashes down into a black puddle.

The bits that were blasted away oozed back into one mass.

Stingray had been moving from

Stingray had been moving from the last of the (now unconscious) guards and workers that had been at the base of the dock towards the others when they started launching grenades. He leapt to the side, almost getting clear of the blast from the grenades that had been sent towards him, and he struck the water and went down.

But his wetsuit, made of some of the latest space-age super materials, had taken the brunt of the blast, as well as significantly slowing the grenade fragments that struck him. And when he shifted back into the form of the great ray, most of the damage he had taken was healed. He swam underneath the dock and swiftly reached the end, passing under the boat just above the bottom of the bay.

Whipcrack rolled over onto his back, grimacing. "Owhowhow..."

He sat up and let her get her shoulder under him, then rose up quickly as she levered him to his feet. "Geez, you're pretty strong. C'mon, let's rendezvous with those other heroes. But keep away from those grenadiers. They're on point with their fire."

She shrugs off his compliment but nods, using the water pulled around then this time like a barrier of circular shape, a dome with shifting density that stays over them as she moves towards the others.

“How do we play this? I wasn’t expecting heavy ordinance, but this is beginning to seem less and less like typical traffickers and more like a big name job. Scorpion?”

After a minute, Whipcrack was able to stand on his own as they got behind cover with Unknown and Stingray. "Doesn't really matter at the moment. We need to get past those grenadiers. Now, I've got a plan, but it may very well be certifiably insane."

Whipcrack took the next several minutes to explain his idea of using Stingray's manta form, with wings raised, combined with Whipcrack's strands to create an underwater slingshot. Unknown, in goo form, would ride in a pocket of Whipcrack's armor on his back. Stingray would swim forward and Whipcrack would be pullef backwards by Riptide to create tension in the strands. Just before letting go of Whipcrack, Riptide would create a channel in the water for him to pass through.

If all went as planned, Whipcrack would go flying over the grenadier blockade and, before they could react, drop Unknown into the midst of the slavers. Whipcrack would land behind the cordon, forcing a fight on two fronts. While the majority of the slavers were distracted, Stingray and Riptide would assault from the flanks.

"Too crazy, right?" he asked once done.

Riptide would look at Whipcrack with an expression betraying just how crazy the idea sounding, but her face and tone both softened as she spoke and thought it out.

“It’s honestly sounds almost too stupid and risky to try but with what’s at stake and our regular methods not working, crazy might be our best bet right now. You’ll have to hold your breath though, if you want power and distance i can’t give you that and maintain an air bubble and shield you from undercurrents and a riptide at the same time.” She states, then adds as a clear afterthought.

“I’m Riptide, if you need a name for me I guess.”

“I do not like water..”.

“I do not like water..”. Unknown said as he reformed his humanoid shape.

“There maybe easier way. One method of travel I use in the city is gliding. Whipcrack if you can get me enough altitude I can glide into their ranks.”

He looks at the three heroes. “I will need distraction during this time. Those grenades kinetic force disrupts me.”

To Whipcrack “Will this modification to your plan be acceptable?”

“I’m also wondering about the amount of firepower they carry. I’m thinking the cargo in those containers might not be just normal human cargo. Superpowered slave trafficking is my thinking.”

Among the chained up people,

Among the chained up people, there's one the group may notice is unusual. Standing almost nine feet tall is a massive woman; extremely well muscled, her body is covered in scute-like growths (the plate-like scales that cover crocodilians), with a long gator tail hanging out behind her and dragging along on the ground. With a too-wide mouth with jutting teeth, a scowling expression meant for the slavers, and a complete lack of hair on her head, she's clearly not the picture of beauty.

With her great size and bulk, clawed hands and powerful jaws, she'd be an extreme danger to the slavers. As it is, they're avoiding getting too close to her tail, since it's unbound and she can still hit people with it. However, they have chained up extremely well; rather than basic manacles for her hands and feet, she has a pair of bars holding her arms a set distance from each other, preventing her from getting any leverage, a bar descending from a collar around her neck to the arm bars, and a pair of heavy chains around her legs, still allowing her to walk with a slow, shuffling gait.

If there was any doubt that any of the prisoners have powers, it's likely just gone out the window. Her restraints are heavy, but she might be a useful ally if they could get her out.

An infinite number of tries doesn't mean that any one of those tries will succeed. I could flip an infinite number of pennies an infinite number of times and, barring genuine randomness, they will never come up "Waffles".

Whipcrack pouted and groused

Whipcrack pouted and groused for a second. "Underwater slingshot woulda been cool."

He looked around, then shot out some strands and swung over to where two stacks of containers could be used as the arms for a slingshot. He fired off two elastic strands and attached them to the ground, then began shaping a cup for Unknown to sit in out of smaller strands.

Once done, he looked over at the others. "I can make it bigger if anyone else want's to go on on Mr. Whipcrack's Wild Ride..."

Unknown once more shows his semi-liquid state as he flowed into the makeshift slingshot forming into a ball. "Perhaps an attempt to free the prisoners would increase our combat numbers. Judging by that large female over there, someone with tech skills would be needed to remove any power dampeners."

Seahawk would look towards the captive gator woman, and takes a moment to think. “I won’t be on the ride, but I can provide some white noise, maybe.” Beginning a low hum, a pulse would be felt or rather heard as suddenly, if the air molecules cooperate, a rapid drop in air pressure would hopefully assail the ears of the main group of guards in a localized area.

“When you launch, I’ll move in and free their guest, even the odds a bit.” She states.

"Alright then, Gooball... let's do this!" Whipcrack said as he released the slingshot. He and Unknown were rocketed skyward, flying through the air faster than the grenadiers could track. As they flew overhead, Whipcrack flipped downwards and shot out balls of energy which hit the grenadiers dead on, then ricocheted into the othe guards.

Before others could take aim on him, he began generating strands to yank him in random directions while still descending. Once close to the ground, he fired strands out to hit the ground, then accelerated himself towards a group of guards, bowling them over. The fight was on.

Seeing her moment, the

Seeing her moment, the massive reptilian woman rushes into a pair of distracted guards. With her arms and legs bound the way they are, there's not a whole lot she can do, but she does have a lot of bulk, an unhindered tail, and a lot of aggression to work out. She slams bodily into one of the guards, sending him skidding across the ground with a dislocated shoulder. She leans forward and swings her huge tail towards another one of her captors and, catching him in the ribs, the man is taken off his feet and sent flying into the water.

"Hey!" She calls out, her voice sounding like she's been gargling mayonnaise and gravel. Hopefully that's a result of her incarceration, since that'd be a rather intimidating voice to have normally, "Get me out of these restraints!" she calls to the heroes.

Wasting no time, Seahawk

Wasting no time, Seahawk would rush forward and leap, stopping before the ground of guards with a roll, unleashing a sonic shout to diorient them. Darting forward like a viperfish, she meets the firs guard with a strength enhanced judo takedown, using the momentum to launch a forward facing kick that sends the second flying into and through a stack of loading boxes.

The last thug she’s facing would make a rush for an automatic rifle, but would be met with a punishing column of sound as Seahawk’s sonic scream sends him sailing into the shipping container the crocodile woman was meant for.

Walking forward to the said gator woman, her gills would flare up as she steps forward, her short hair cut close to her face mussed from the fight, and her expression letting her now how much she enjoyed the thrill of combat.

Eyeing the chain, she takes a long look, before making a small ‘o’ with her mouth, as she focuses a small projection of sound onto the chains, which ultimately caused them to stress and shatter.

“Seahawk, nice to meet you, you’ve been drafted. Care to get to work?” She states, her voice firm and betraying hints of a Spanish accent.

Once the bar on her hands is

Once the bar on her hands is opened, the gator woman, proceeds to pull apart the leather and plastic shock collar that had been on her neck, and then reaches down put the chain attaching her feet together between her teeth - a simple bite later and she spits out the link she'd bitten off.

"I'll have to get the actual cuffs off later. For now, it's time for a little payback," she growls, and then springs into action. The sheer weight of her motion is impressive, and in spite of odd proportions with shorter legs and longer arms, she still manages to get up to the grenadiers on the way to the boss in short order, though one grenade explodes against her tough green hide - all it results in is a black scoring along her shoulder and back as the explosion chars what little sackcloth clothing they'd provided her while being contained.

With a bellow and a sweep of her arm, her massive reach bowls into the ordnance line, and scatters them, many of them going straight into the seawater under the docks. The one that remains, she grabs by the leg and throws him so hard he dents one of the shipping containers - that's probably going to leave a broken bone or seven, though to be fair, she has a lot of anger to work out.

Letting out a roar that shakes the very air, she charges in the direction of the boss, the broken chains still hanging from her limbs rattling loudly as she moves.

The black mass of Unknown

The black mass of Unknown spread out like a kite to gain air time as he angled for the guards. Once there he drops tendrils with ends like hammers slammed into anyone in striking range via an area of effect attack. He then reformed into his humanoid shape. "I am told killing you is not an option. I don't agree, please make my choice easier and resist arrest." For a demonstration, his hands become two crystal sharp blades.

"I wouldn't resist if I were you!" Whipcrack said as he swung by the guards Unknown was addressing. He landed behind them and snagged two with strands, dragging them away from the humanoid swarm. With a few quick twists and flips of the strands, he had them tied up and attached to a concrete piling. "Stick around!" he quipped, swinging off.

The boss of the slavers stood calmly as the gator woman charged him. Just before she reached him, he straightened up and drove his cane tip towards the ground. With an unearthly sound, it hit and a dome of energy shot outwards. The dome passed through all of the combatants and as it did so, they froze, both guards and heroes alike. The energy spread to encompass the entire battlefield, nearly engulfing all of the docks. Everyone it touched would find themselves still aware, but completely unable to move.

The boss smirked and picked up his cane, then walked over to look at the gator woman. "Shame. You would have made me quite a bit of money in the betting pool. But if you're still this lively after your lengthy confinement, then you're more of an uncontrollable berserker than I first realized. I'd best cut my losses. Till next time, my dear."

He finished off my reaching up and tweaking her nearly flat nose, then wended his way through the melee. Anytime he passed a guard that wasn't disabled, he touched them with the gem end of the cane and they were unfrozen. When one of them moved to attack to the helpless heroes, he tutted. "It has been explained to you that that would end poorly. Now, come along or be left to the tender mercies of Scaleback." he said, motioning at the humanoid alligator.

With a little less than half of the slaves they arrived with, the boss and guards loaded up, then departed. A few minutes later, the dome winked out and everyone would find themselves moving exactly as they had been before the dome was created.

Unknown couldn’t move. This was odd most energy types he absorbed but he was frozen. Was it time manipulation? Then why could he think perhaps the exobiology of his kind held a key.

He could move again and took stock of the scene. “Was that time manipulation? Does anyone recall what happened once the energy hit?”

Looking to Whipcrack “This is why I still kill.”

She looks at the other heroes, and punches a dent in a shipping container in anger.

The sudden acceleration after

The sudden acceleration after being held still for so long means that the crocodilian woman tumbles, and though she's good at falling, her sheer inertia from how much mass she has carries her further than she'd like, almost rolling her off the docks. She manages to catch herself, however, claws digging into the wood, to slow herself to a stop.

And then she punches the dock in frustration, before howling loud enough to make the very air shake. Her voice is utterly inhuman in this moment, powerful and bestial, like an angry animal.

She takes a breath in through her nose, holds it for a moment, and breathes out through her mouth. in, hold, out. Some may recognize it as a breathing technique meant to help with stressful situations. Still with a dour expression on her surprisingly emotive, if reptilian, face, the woman that the boss had called 'Scaleback' stomps back over to the heroes, "He was kind enough to get right up close to my nose. I can track him by scent if necessary," She grimaces, her voice still raw from anger, "but if we don't figure out whatever that was and get countermeasures, the next time we try and take him down, he'll do the same thing again."

Hmm. Seems she's not a stupid brute after all.

"Can any of you get these manacles off me?" she asks, shoving forward her arms to the group, hoping any of them can help. The broken chains still hanging from them clink along the ground. She also has manacles around her ankles, which she likely wants help getting off as well.

She holds still while Unknown works, and once the manacles are off, she kicks them away into the water, "Emily Karlson, AKA Scaleback. Pleasure to make your acquaintances. Been stuck in that bastard's hold for months just waiting for an opportunity to get away."

Seems she's entirely alright with sharing her civilian name. Not like she's got much of a civilian identity when her body is so distorted by hybridization.

The stasis effect caught

The stasis effect caught Stingray in mid-leap, as well as in mid-transformation. When it ended, he landed right on the spot that one of the guards had been, before... A string of profanity en Español was followed by an apology for such language in the presence of ladies.

With Unknown helping Scaleback out of her manacles, Stingray moved to the area where some of the other prisoners had been standing. He looked carefully at the dock, then knelt as he pulled a set of tweezers out of a small pouch on the belt of his wetsuit. He came up with a hair, mostly auburn but much darker at the root. "I do not know what precautions that.... person... took to prevent being tracked, but I will find out if he thought to block magic!"

Whipcrack had been in the

Whipcrack had been in the process of swinging across the battlefield and, distracted by the stasis as well as watching the bad guys get away, momentarily forgot to arrest his movement and swung into the side of a container. KA-WHANG!

"... ow." He said as he picked himself up off the ground. After taking a moment to clear his head, he rounded up the guards and checked on the prisoners, making sure none of them were critically injured. Once done with that, he retrieved the camera he'd left up on the container and used it to take pictures of the crime scene. Finally, he began weaving bubbles of energy over dropped weapons to prevent them from being grabbed if any of the guards tried to escape. He did all this quickly and in relative silence, frustration etched on his face. Once done, Whipctack slowed down and turned away, taking a moment to breathe and center himself. At times like this, he wished his former partner was still around. She was faster than him and probably could've caught up to the trucks by air.

He turned to the other heroes, his psionic armor dissipating. "Well, that ended less than spectacularly. Whipcrack's the name, by the way."

Once introductions were out

Once introductions were out of the way, approaching sirens could be heard. Whipcrack looked at the gathered heroes. "Well, folks, we gonna stick around and attend to the paperwork or get started chasing the badguys?"

-----------------------------------------------

Elsewhere, the two trucks arrived at a decrepit warehouse. As they approached, the concrete in front of the building rumbled, shifted, then dropped to form ramps. The two semi-trucks headed down the ramps, which then closed up behind them. The trucks drove a short distance through a vast underground bay and once they came to a stop, the guards and the boss disembarked, leaving the unloading of the slaves to waiting workers. As the guards retired to their barracks, the boss limped off down a long hallway.

His final destination turned out to be large room filled with technology. In the center was what appeared to be a translucent sarcophagus being attended to by a small blonde woman. When she noticed he was approaching, she came to him at a trot. At first, there was a smile on her face, but as she got closer, her look changed to one of worry. She laid a hand on his chest and turned her head to the side, eyes closed. "You've used too much of your energy. Come."

Providing a shoulder for him to lean on, she led him to the sarcophagi. As he approached, one end of it elevated until it sat at a 45 degree angle. The woman helped him into it and sealed it, then powered it up. "Goodnight, my love."

Whipcrack swung from strand

Whipcrack swung from strand to strand, also able to easily keep up with Scaleback. So far, the scent she was following was taking them south along the 128 towards Lotus Hills and Weston. Fortunately, the city planners had thought ahead when designing this freeway and included a wide raised path in the median for heroes to traverse.

Upon reaching the 128-3128 interchange, the trucks had turned onto the older freeway and headed towards Ironport. Just after crossing Ironport Channel, Whipcrack got an alert over the League of Titans channel that a gang war was brewing between the Five Dragons and the Black Rose. After getting the full report, Whipcrack swung lower. "Guys! Hold up! We got trouble."

If they stopped, he'd explain.

Back at the warehouse again a

Back at the warehouse again a tall figure approaches the sarcophagus with metallic steps. Hidden in a cloak the tall but not bulky person leans forward, showing a humpback on the right shoulder. As he begins to speak, it sounds like a sick person talking through a heavy oxygen mask. His words picked with care, but also spoken with great effort, as each word would hurt him.

"Lets hope he can pay his debts before he never awakens."

The tall, cloaked figure with the metal claws as feet straightens his back again, as he would expect a punch or harsh gesture. His own hands remain on his lower back.

"Walking down the street and you hear that heavy beat. You can't help but walk your feet, down all the way 'til we meet"~

With multiple hydraulic whirs, no less than five automated weapons lowered from the ceiling and trained upon the tall figure. "You will get the remainder of your pay when your contract is complete, mercenary." The blonde's last word came out sounding as if it had been spit as opposed to spoken.

She then pointed towards the door. "Now leave or it is you that will need to concern themselves with never waking."

The metallic sounds of his claws clicking against the floor fills the air with tension, only slowly fading even after he's gone.

Whipcrack reached into his utility belt and pulled out a small case. Inside were the four LoT (League of Titans) limited comms devices he routinely carried. They didn't have as many features as the member comms and would be dead within 48 hours, but they were handy for staying connected with non-members. "Here. I've got one for anybody who needs it. If you've already got a means of communications, I can provide you with my SG's guest channel details."

Once everybody was linked up, he outlined the plan. "Scaleback, you stay on the trail. I know you're anxious to go after him, but don't do anything rash when you find his location. Stingray, Seahawk, and I will go help with the gang war. Unknown, which team would you prefer?"

To say Unknown was impressed with the reptile-like humanoid was not quite true. Mostly because his alien mind doesn't process thoughts like that. Still, it seems as if the sense of smell of Scaleback was something to be admired given how she could track. A worthy fight if they might come to blows. Scaleback moves forward, sniffing at the air - the scent is so much stronger here; they're almost on top of the man who captured her. Tortured her for weeks in an effort to break her. Half-starved her. She'll lead the way to the correct warehouse, and hides in the shade of a nearby alleyway, watching the warehouse from afar. No matter what some may think based on her size and strength, she's far from stupid, and she won't go off rushing into a fight without backup and a way to guarantee she gets what she wants. But even as she watches, staring at the warehouse, she can't help but feel anger welling up inside, her yellow eyes glaring at the place from the darkness.

Leaping into action, Seahawk

Leaping into action, Seahawk would move into action just behind Gayle and D-Day, moving to help corral the thugs alongside Stingray with a stunning sustained wave of sound.

Stingray moved in, closing on gang members who didn't seem affected by Seahawk's sonics and punching them with his electrified fists.

What had started as a tense

What had started as a tense negotiation between members of the two gangs had fallen apart quickly. It was a well-known fact that The Black Rose and The Five Dragons did not see eye-to-eye, so there were no less than three stakeout teams watching the negotiation. As soon as violence erupted, the police lines were blowing up with calls for assistance.

With the arrival of D-Day amidst the two battling gangs, a third of the combatants switched to target him while the rest continued fighting other members of the rival gang. True to his prediction, this allowed the other heroes to begin circling the flanks of the fight.

Whipcrack, protected by Gayle's mist, led his team through some industrial machinery along the right side of the battlefield. "Let's do this, folks." He said before charging into the fight.

"Stepping on flowers now!"

"Stepping on flowers now!" Gayle called out. She dropped her aerial servants on a melee cluster of gangsters and starting spinning up a mini-tornado around them, planning on leaving Whipcrack and Stingray enough space to get in close. If either the Black Rose or the Five Dragons combatants moved away from the incoming heroes, they would be caught in the windstorm.

The air constructs started punching and blasting the gangsters. They did not do a lot of damage, but they were very distracting, and invulnerable, besides.

"Feel the wind!" the green-clad hero cried out.

Unknown looked to Scaleback

Unknown looked to Scaleback "If you wish you can return to the others. I will not attack, but I am going to scout around." Unknown seemed to melt into a puddle of black goo and flowed down the building and to the warehouses. Most sensors have trouble picking him up naturally he doesn't give off heat signatures, absorbs most forms of energy, and being able to slide along the walls and floors as a black substance he slips past many cameras looking like a shadow. More so when he has the option of sliding along the ceiling instead of the floor.

It is possible he could be spotted just difficult. He was taking note of the inferred heat of nearby bodies counting how many in his range he could see. As well as looking for any entrances into the buildings.
-----------------------------------------

"Now that what I call the easy way. I do hate to do the paperwork." He was absorbing the gunfire and then slams his hands together sending that pent-up Kinetic force back out in a concussion blast wave. (this be a cone attack with knockdown/knockback) Spotting others already in action he nods and then turns to the group on his left.

Whipcrack threw out a strand

Whipcrack threw out a strand and swung away from the building. His arc took him out over the cyclone and he yanked himself into a flip to burn momentum, then dropped directly into the middle of the melee. "Time to reap the whirlwind!"

With a ridiculously acrobatic fighting style, Whipcrack flipped, twisted, and spun his way through the fight. He never stayed put for long and combined this with his ability to grapple at both melee and range, then pin guys down or throw them into the winds.

------------------------------

At the warehouse, Unknown's infiltration was going relatively well. As he got into the warehouse, he'd discover that it was completely empty. Though the scent led them here, there was obviously some sort of shenanigans going on.

Stingray's style was much

Stingray's style was much more direct, lunging towards the next enemy, punching or kicking, with a carefully judged electric shock comparable to a slightly overcharged taser. He would continue attacking, gradually increasing the voltage and current, until the foe went down. Then a lunge towards the next enemy, lather, rinse, repeat...

"Woohoo! Feel the wind!"

"Woohoo! Feel the wind!" shouted Gayle, adding thunderbolts and air blasts to the fight that tumbled foes into each other and both Whipcrack and Stingray's reach. She periodically refreshed the protective bubbles on the heroes for good measure and tried to let D-Day make himself the undeniable target.

With gangsters like these, no special leader presented himself, so Gayle refrained from any serious holds, electing instead to batter and bash with the boys on the ground as she hovered and darted in the sky above. In case the media was getting any of these shots, she called out, "Yeah, Spring's mama is in fine form today!"

D-Day flinched as a few blasts of laser type attacks hit, but he long ago had his armor improved to handle that. "What's the matter? Your bosses only sent the weakest of you lot to this get-together?" He then charged a group clotheslining two.

"Their bosses wouldn't have

"Their bosses wouldn't have gotten into a fight in the streets! They have more class than that! And sense, too, for what it's worth!" Gayle sang out.

One of the Dragons did look like a lieutenant, and she was easily resisting Gayle's wind powers, ignoring the tornado and her air blasts as if they didn't exist. The sorceress, or whatever she was, rippled her hands through some complicated arcane pattern and a lightning bolt shot out and blasted Gayle. Even with the lack of grounding, the bolt depleted her shield.

"Eep! Hey, Whipcrack! Give some love to the lady in the frosty blue outfit, please!" Gayle called out as she hastily ducked behind one of her aerial servants and rebubbled herself.

“Where there is lightning,

“Where there is lightning, there’s thunder, you seem to have missed some.” Seahawk would quip as she judo flips a Black Rose mook over her shoulder, stepping on his face to seal the deal. Compared to her companions, her style is more predatory, like the bird she references, direct and punishing with a blast or burst of sound for emphasis to clear house.

Reaching the lieutenant, Seahawk would take a moment to focus, before sending a fine ‘whistle’ of sound at the sorceress-once it hits, it should render her temporarily discombobulated and stunned, and set her up for a following sonic burst that will send her flying if it connects.

"Less missing some, and more

"Less missing some, and more trusting my squad mates." D-Day looked about the mobs. He then channeled the Kinetic force and slams the ground sending an AOE blast all around him. "Unless there some tougher foes in this mess we should put most of them down any moment."

Unknown reformed into his human form the tattooed man in black. "You can check if you like. Perhaps your nose can follow the trail, I don't see like carbon-based life. I see and feel energy including body heat and radiation. There were no trucks in the building nor did I detect complex heat signatures. Use of illusions wouldn't hide heat signatures."

"Thanks, Seahawk!" Gayle sang out. "Teamwork for the win!"

She added air cushions to the heroes who seemed to need it, and then scooped up the sorceress from where she had landed after being knocked back by the sonic burst. Gayle made short work of wrapping her up in a solid, persistent grip of air. She set the bound sorceress tumbling over and over, for good measure.

Another lightning bolt or two to finish up some that D-Day's kinetic punch had wobbling, and the gangsters were nearly all accounted for. In this area, at least, Gayle reminded herself.

Once the fight was wrapped up and the participants detained, Whipcrack gathered the heroes together. "Alright folks, we need to get back on the trail of those traffickers. Gayle, you want in?" he asked, taking a few minutes to explain who they were tracking and why.

Scaleback grunts in the affirmative, and walks slowly towards the warehouse, apparently sniffing for threats. At the same time, she doesn't slow down, instead making her way inside and pulling up the door to see if the old man's scent continues inside.

As Scaleback sniffed around, she'd be able to determine that the scent, without weakening or dispersing, simply terminated 100 feet before the warehouse doors. Depending on how strong they are, the crocodilian's instincts might fire up at that point. Her prey had a hiding spot.

------------

"Awesome. Thanks, D-Day. Let's roll, team." Whipcrack said, before flinging out a strand to yank himself skyward. As they made their way towards the warehouse, Whipcrack gave Gayle a more thorough rundown of the situation and let her know that the other heroes had temporary LoT commbeads.

Soon enough, the two teams had rendezvoused near the warehouse where the scent had led. Not knowing what sort of detection systems the trafficking group had, Whipcrack had the group move to a point that was at least a block away but still kept the warehouse in sight. "So, what'd you find?" he asked, looking at Scaleback and Unknown.

As law enforcement arrived to

As law enforcement arrived to the aftermath of the gang war, a lone Black Rose member crawls to a hiding place. Jackie was a fairly new recruit, referred by a distant friend after he was fired from a shipping company in Ironport. He inches between some cargo containers, leg nearly severed at the knee.

Jackie suddenly realizes the space wasn't empty: a man in purple robes with gold trim slowly materialized. "I've really had enough capes today" he said under his breath.
"Your wounds are mortal, but you needn't pass on in between these boxes. We can help you." said the robed figure. "We? What?!" Jackie replies, beginning to get light-headed. "You're one of us, you simply don't know it yet. Now, please, come with me before you pass on the cold concrete." "I...ok--" Jackie lets out before passing out. The two dissolve into the shadows before an officer inspects the crates.

While Scaleback and Unknown

While Scaleback and Unknown gave their report, Stingray watched the warehouse. He was entirely human in his outward appearance, but he still had the "magnetic sense" of the torpedo fish. Through it, he noted the arrivals of police vehicles into the area, and occasionally other electric devices being used. He ignored the presence of the comm devices he and the other heroes were using, as long as they were stationary and not being actively used. Not that he could understand radio communication without using a comm to listen with, unless it was in Morse Code.

But that "magnetic sense", which had never really been turned off since the day his abuela had told him about the family secret, also let him sense magic. And so it seemed to him that there was a flicker, not unlike what he felt from a bass speaker but shorter, not too far away. He felt it a second time, moments later. As it was not near the warehouse, he filed the oddity away, just in case he felt it again, and turned his attention back to the report and the warehouse.

"Wait," Gayle asked, a puzzled look making a crease between her eyebrows, "How many trucks? Just one, or were there more containers of people?"

She put up an obscuring mist around the heroes to conceal them, her aerial servants standing behind her as she hovered just off the ground behind Whipcrack.
