Howdy folks, new and already loving the enthusiasm about this game. With so many superteams being tossed around though, I thought it'd make for an interesting change of pace to toss the net on who would like to play with a lower kind of scum. Picture if you will something akin to the Rogues of DC fame; Costumed Titans and men and women lucky enough to get the tech to compete in that field. They're not out to conquer the world, they're just around to make a buck and live like kings after. Maybe they're just hooked on the thrill of the job, or they're some bloodthirsty psychos akin to Boddicker's gang in RoboCop. Who can say what all aside from greed motivates these guys?
But yeah, who else would be up for putting together a team of street level, for-profit villains?
I would.
Some kind of an enforcer with energy bracers and super spring boots.
No name or costume idea besides that but it is a start.
Are we going to be able to turn off XP do you think? Sometimes it's nice just to fight the lowbies forever.
Hi. I'm Hope.
Sounds good so far :) Can't wait to see what you come up with, and I agree, back on CoH there was something to be said about turning of XP for a while and just blazing through all the story arcs in an area.
Leaning toward a Captain Cold sort, thief a code and the like. Far as costumes go, I'm thinking a sort of...cryomancer version of Shocker. Gauntlets that work like the cold gun and an insulated suit to protect him from the cold. Did the best I could on Champs without spending money. https://imgur.com/QvH5GG5
How's Chilblaine for a name?
Hi Rott, I love the idea! I would like to plan to play a pre teen urban power puff girl named Patrixia Smith. I hope she can fit right in with your SG.
She was part of the all female gang called "War of the Roses." She moved to titan city after leaving her gang. They placed a black rose order on her meaning that wanted her dead for not being the gang for life. In order to protect herself she escaped the South Bronx and came to Titan City to rebuild her life, however still wanting some action she became a bounty hunter for hire, hunting both villain and hero for a good price.
Character Mechanics: Gunner(Lethality ranged attacks, Grit for defense)
Travel Power: Super Speed.
Interesting idea! I think there can easily be a place for her in a crew like this. Maybe catching bail-jumpers just isn't paying the bills, and of course these scumbags aren't about to turn down someone with super speed. Still trying to nail down a name for this bunch, too.
I have a masked criminal.
Renegade: sort of like a criminal Robin/Nightwing.
She's trained by an assassin, carries guns, explosives, and an uncomfortable amount of knives. Wears body armor and not above using whatever gadgets and gizmos she can get her hands on to get the job done, but draws the line at body modifications.
Tends to stick to other criminal targets, robs mob fronts, raids crime lord's houses, that kinda thing.
Likes to keep her threat level low, doesn't kill cops, heroes, or innocents. Tries to stay below the notice of most super heroes, unless playing cat and mouse with them is more fun.
Just around to get as much money as possible, as fast as possible, and with the least amount of hassle.
"Let the past die. Kill it if you have to."
Maybe this could be the thread where I finally get to intro Fiddleback....
So, picture a blend of Iron Spider and Blue Beetle 2, though not as powerful as BB2. Basically, Iron Spider with an alien biosuit instead of a Stark mechsuit. Makes her tougher, stronger, faster, more agile. She can shoot webs out of her hands or any one of the four artificial legs. Some degree of improved senses or extra senses.
But here's the kicker. The wielder, Carolina "Caro" Monteiro, is not the one in control. The suit is sapient and domineering, like BB2's, but she's not nearly as willful or altruistic as young Jaime Reyes. Yet...

That actually sounds pretty badass! Can't wait to see a pic of the suit. Honestly surprised how many ladies are being proposed for this bunch.
I have a teen villain (misguided would probably be a better word) that is fire power based...she likes setting things on fire. She was sent to juvenile detention wing for meta's for arson twice...she is currently 16 that would join a street level villain group

Man, this is starting to turn into Chilblaine's Angels. Good concept though, and exactly the kind they might need for getting into a vault if she can focus that fire like an arclight.

Here Here! I hope you guys and gals remember the VG from City of Heroes that were called the Knives of Artemis and the Carnival of Shadows. Maybe our street level members will be able to take down bigger foes through will power or technology alone. I for one will be (In terms of City of Heroes terminology)a Rogue. It will be awesome when the character builder releases soon to make our VG in the chat zone and try out different group designs.
Indeed I do remember them. I recall both were cancerous to fight. Looks like we're all going Rogue on this one, and here I half expected us to be Boddicker's crew. Can't wait to start making characters.
Carnies? Bah! They were annoying but nothing a group that was paying attention couldn't handle. The Knives, however; stacked DoTs, movement debuffs, stealth, and (I am convinced) some completely broken damage mechanics, they were a royal pain.
Don''t get me started on Malta.
Wait until you see the... nope, that would ruin the surprise.
The frigging caltrops on Artemis were the worst. I took way more satisfaction in beating them stupid that I should have. On another note, anyone got a clue as to what this crew should be called?
Baby badies! Totally joking

One suggestion for our VG "The Ravenclaws" Just thinking out loud here.
Hmmm, maybe, but to me that sounds more like some occult bunch. Granted my idea of "The Bandits" isn't all that great either.
Hmm good point, Let me research ideas on google.
Wrecking Crue, Street Enclave,The Reaper Posse,The Cardinal Viper Clan, Natural Born Killas, The Black Banner Brotherhood.
Ohh, I actually like Wrecking Crue. Might just be my being a metalhead. Street Enclave could work too.
Hmmm...The Motley Lot, Highwaymen, Renegades, and...maybe something based on their neighborhood, is what I've got right now.
Awesome I like Highwaymen and Renegades to0! Maybe the unused names can work for guild member ranking names. hmm
"The castaways"...thats all i got

Would fit for my Pyro...she is an orphan so having a pseudo family that accepts and encourages her chaotic behavior would be -great-

I was thinking of tossing someone in for this, two potential concepts.
One is Sherwood, a thief and con artist who wields a (unknown to him) enchanted bow and arrow that encourages acts of larceny and stealing from the rich of Titan City and giving to the poor, as his bow may be the very same one used by Robin Hood.
Another option is the Highwayman, a gentleman rogue kind of character, uses classy and elegant but nonetheless effective weaponry and skills combined with a dapper demeanor and escape artistry to perform grand theft and other acts of villainy.
Last but not least, would be a former Five Dragons enforcer who left after the group took offense to his penchant for not shaking down a particular area (his borough of Lotus Hills) and is currently looking for new employment. He wields one of the five elemental trees such as metal, wood, earth, water and fire, which I do not know yet.
Thoughts? The last one needs a name too, and I like the Renegades as a team name, or maybe the Furies (Greek Mythos, Titan City and stuff.))

Man, those all sound awesome. Liking Highwayman and the former Five Dragons guy (Iron Lion, Rainwalker?) We got a great mix in here. I like the name Furies, too.
Oh and I forgot Outcry, my tragic Devices/Force Blast villain who uses sonic weaponry and gadgets of her own making to get revenge on the high and mighty like the corporation and government who cost her her life, career, husband, and son.
Name would be unknown as she has a inflated rap sheet and redacted classified info, but others would know her rough tech matches the prototypes possibly involved in a wetwork project known as ‘Operation: Siren’, headed by former and now disgraced head scientist Isadora Silva.

I was thinking giving him maybe something with the element of Metal, perhaps. Iron Lotus could work as a name, as he was an enforcer and bodyguard, a warrior who held a code of honor, and as a lotus rises from the mire so does he.

Sounds awesome, go for it. Interested to suit what the costume would be like. Would make a great contrast to Chilblaine too.
Blaine McGrath is good ol' boy trailer trash from the hollers of West Virginia. He's had a rough life, coming from a poor part of a poor state and at best faced with a future as a career miner. Combine that with a drunk father defeated by life and an abusive mother, its a wonder he turned out as sane as he has. He took to petty crime pretty early as a means of helping the family make it through the week in relative comfort, but nowdays he's gone full in on the life if a career criminal, looking to set himself up as the next Jesse James. Suffice to say he *really* enjoys screwing with the yankees in Titan City and taking their money.
I think it would be interesting if maybe aside from a cold suit and a rogue like demeanor, perhaps Blaine has force gauntlets or ‘power gloves’, and is even able to generate enough kinetic energy to utilize super speed?
It would be an interesting powerset to work with, unless you’re set on Chillblaine haha

I'm actually partial to the Highway Men. I'm sure we won't all be straight up killas, I know I wont be.
Also very much like the Wrecking Crew but that may bring a generic name hammer down on us.
Which might be Ok. Renamed "Generic Team #1". I would be ok with that as well.
Hi. I'm Hope.
I like the Highwaymen as well.
Wrecking Crew is cool, but like Hope said, it's a well-known Marvel villain group based around demolition, sooo... ban hammer.
Now, the Demo(lition) Crew might have merit...
Another trope to keep in mind is that villain groups often get named after their leaders. So if you want to go classic/tongue-in-cheek, there's Chillblaine and the Freezers?
Or, if you fancy alliteration, Chillblaine and the Cryo Crew?
Putting yourself in another persons shoes emotionally is something that everyone has to experience eventually. It's part of learning to be a human being. Roleplayers do it for fun.
I’ll play the Highwayman then. A Devices/Lethality operator with a electrified rapier ‘acquired’ from an Aether Pirate first mate and otherwise uses non lethal but still effective weaponry. He’s more of a thief than a solid fighter and prefers subtle infiltration and grifting, but does love a good chase and pulling off a impossible heist.
Maybe the Grifters as a name, or perhaps something like the Dirty Dozen or the Vagabonds?

The Highwayman’s appearance, they would note that while the costume looks to be a traditional garb, it seems to be made out of a modern light-snubbing and stealth friendly and agility allowing material.

The Grifters....I like the sound of that.
Seems like we got several stealth/thief types. With a name like the Grifters, are we a crew of thieves?
Putting yourself in another persons shoes emotionally is something that everyone has to experience eventually. It's part of learning to be a human being. Roleplayers do it for fun.
We are a gang of thieves akin to the Rogues from DC, yes.
How about The Rabble?
Kind of all encompassing group of villainous misfits.
Hi. I'm Hope.
The Rogues is probably copywritten... but Rogues Gallery doesn't appear to be?
Putting yourself in another persons shoes emotionally is something that everyone has to experience eventually. It's part of learning to be a human being. Roleplayers do it for fun.
Wasn't planning on calling them the Rogues, I was just using them as the basis.
I actually like the Rabble as a collection of villainous rogues and misfits. It’s dismissable but those who do so do it at their own peril.

Finding a name for a VG reminds me of the Monty Python Cheese Shop Skit. :D " I was perusing your digital super human entertainment simulation when I felt a need to organize a gang of ruffians with a peerless and vicious notoriety However I need to resubmit my request for such a job to prevent a dialectical conflict between that of other ruffians and to express our exclusive moniker without legal repercussions. In other words my good sir, I do not want to get generic'd. :P

Feel free to come up with a heist planner, Foradain~

Nom de cape: Burns, a.k.a.The Man With The Plan.
Not-so-secret ID: Luenener. An ancestor apparently came from the town of Lünen, in Germany, and so got tagged with that as a family name. His given name may be Jack or Jake, he'll answer to either. (It's actually James, but he encourages the confusion.)
Faceclaim:
It's also where I got the idea for this character. ^_^
Archetype: Director (Control/Support). Prior research into the scene and people involved in a proposed heist allows Luenener to give his team an edge both in avoiding and engaging in combat.
Disadvantages: The readers don't want to read about heists where everything goes according to plan. So those heists are backstory, or things that happened between the interesting heists. Which are the ones where things gang aft agley....
For several examples of how things can go interesting, see The Hot Rock (or read it!)

*taps chin* Hrrrm... if this is gonna be a heist crew, I'll need to advance Fiddleback's personal arc, which has three distinct stages.
Early Fiddleback, when the suit was in almost complete control, was a monster terrorizing the favelas of São Paulo.
But it sounds like this RP will require the suit and Caro to have struck a balance, which is more in the middle stage of her development.
*scurries off to hole to do more character planning*
*pokes head out of hole* Would anyone like to be the person that found/recruited her down in South America?
Putting yourself in another persons shoes emotionally is something that everyone has to experience eventually. It's part of learning to be a human being. Roleplayers do it for fun.
The devs said that you can stay as a street level character throughout the entire game if you wanted to.

Hmmm...perhaps Blaine made his way down South protecting some cargo for the mob, ran into Fiddleback while he was down there?
Well if this is going to be a heist group I'd like to throw my hat in the ring, those banks have a lot of security to deal with supervillains, so what we need is a gadget man. Mainly Spellrigger, a man who can take apart any magical device and then put it back together with a couple machine parts to suit his needs.

I can dig the Heist vibe. Patrixia will be the muscle in this case.
I would have offered, but Ezra mainly works in Titan City and only goes international for big bucks, and i would like to keep him local for now. I do think that it would make sense to have Fiddleback recruited by Blaine on maybe happenstance doing some odd jobs in Central America running interference for a drug cartel on maybe their current boss’s orders, and taking Caro back to build up their team, which may have perished and is why Blaine needs to make the Rabble in the first place?
Debt and fear of a big bad Kingpin like character is a very strong motivator.

And Kool, is Patrixia a pre teen? Is hanging with big bad adult thieves and villains a good idea?
I think having a polymath or rather someone who can build stuff maybe named the Quartermaster would be cool, like a villainous armorer and crook who uses the best pieces of stolen tech to help pull off impossible crimes and hesits, for a price of course.

Heya Glad, Patrixia is good. :) She has hung out with the worst and still came up on top. If i were to classify her in terms of specialty she is good with small arms and unarmed attacks. She definitely picked up some street brawling tips from being in gang wars before.
I was mainly just curious about age and if that would impact the RP

I guess count me out then. I will probably join a VG when I get to know the game play mechanics more.
Kool, I think Glady's main concern was Patrixia's age. The character sounds interesting, but does she need to be a preteen? Could she be aged a bit? Maybe, at the least, to mid-teen (15-16)?
Putting yourself in another persons shoes emotionally is something that everyone has to experience eventually. It's part of learning to be a human being. Roleplayers do it for fun.
Yeah, the age would be my only concern. None of these people seem to be the types to, while they are thieves, bring along a child into their operations.
...and is it odd that I can already picture this crew all together making dinner Goodfellas style? Who's making the sauce? Who's cutting the garlic?

And yeah that was my only thing, that I don’t believe that this would be an environment to develop a child character.
