First off I've been watching The Phoenix Project off and on for a long time. Basically since its announcement shortly after CoX was shut down. (Damn NCSoft and their termination of my favorite game)
Alright anyway here are my questions. Sorry if they're answered somewhere else on forums as I have not been able to find the posts if they are.
1.) Is there still a way to donate to the project without buying T-Shirts
*I realize I'm too late for the kickstarter rewards. But was wondering if there were still a way to pre-purchase similar packages
2.) Any idea what sort of pet types the Commander will have available?
*Mastermind was my favorite class in CoX, I had probably 4-5 different alts built around different backstories/types of followers
3.) I've seen the "Map" they have here on the site. Any idea how large the playable area is planned to actually be?
4.) How's the Hero/Villain thing going to work? Is it going to be like CoX with separate starting areas or is it going to be more like Going Rogue where you choose your path at a point in the story?
Welcome to asking questions. I'll keep my answers here brief because pretty much all of them have in fact been covered in other parts of this forum probably much better than I could in one single post but at least I'll give you some "speed" answers regardless.
Pretty soon now (anytime from say roughly tomorrow to about maybe six months from now) MWM is going to be offering what they've called the Second Chance event which in a nutshell will be like a second Kickstarter.
To be clear the Commander archetype will not be available at game launch. But the good news is that the Devs have strongly hinted a being able to have enough "pet customization" that we may be able to have fairly unique pet "types" that won't be locked into the handful of hardwired types CoH offered.
This is one bit of info the Devs haven't really specifically told us yet. The presumption is that CoT will end up being roughly as big as CoH was but we've been given no exact numbers on that. It'd be cool if they could give us a vague idea on this (i.e. CoT will be 150% the size of CoH).
CoT will end up being closer to Going Rogue in how it handles this issue. There will be no hardwired "blueside" or "redside" - all characters are mixed in the same zones. Instead of characters being binary "heroes" or "villains" we'll have Alignment values that can be affected positively or negatively based on our actions. So if you want a character to be considered "heroic" you have to do things in the game that favor being heroic and vice-versa.
Your characters will also maintain Reputation values with all NPC factions in the game so your future reactions from them will depend on how you interact with them over time. For example if you start down the path of being a villainous character you're likely going to start getting negative reactions from the Titan Cops (because your Rep value with that faction will likely become low).

On the map issue the size of the map relative to CoH's Paragon City will be significantly larger in terms of total area. I'm kind of certain we may have disclosed the exact size already of Titan City, but for the record Paragon City can probably be contained in one of our smaller zones with room to spare. I'll try to update this post with hard data if I can.
Edit: Dang it! Can't find any direct info right now. I just remember somewhere that Paragon City would fit within Alexandria with room to spare.

For some reason the number 64km[sup]2[/sup] comes to mind? Not sure where that number is coming from, or how big or small that is, cause American and Metric...
IIRC, Doc mentioned it during one of the streams? maybe?
8km x 8km is the number I helped develop with Dr. Tyche. For technical reason I believe it's effectively larger still. I've been struggling to find specific numbers for Paragon City.

Here you go. It's a VERY big sandbox the devs get to play in.
The relevant part: "The total map for Titan City measures four hundred and seventy five square kilometers. 180 square miles. Sculpted. You’ve seen the maps before, with waterlines and coves, and mountains."
It's a little dated; it's been enlarged since. Seriously. Good find though! I had almost forgotten that article.

Senior Developer/Project Manager/Co-Founder... and then some.
In Calgary, our blocks are laid out such that 16 of them equal one mile (or about 10 per km).
180 sq miles is about equal to a 13 x 13 mile grid. One grid (1 mile x 1mile) would have 256 blocks explore. In total we could have the potential to discover 46,080 blocks. How much game time could we waste doing that?
Clearly I had forgotten the article as well. ;)
Still might be worth a knowledgeable Dev doing the math to put that into terms an ex-CoH player might understand. Saying something abstract like "180 square miles" is one thing - saying that's like (for example) "150% the size of CoH" would be a phrase people could actually "visualize" based on their prior experience.

In-house calculations put the playable area of Paragon City at 6-7 sq. miles. 10 tops. Titan City is closer to 40 sq. mi. So at minimum Paragon City is one-quarter the size of Titan City. Probably much less.

That's cool - now you can use that as a bit of "one line hype" to help sell CoT...
"CoT has at least FIVE TIMES the playable area as CoH!"
Simple-to-digest info like that would help give the ex-CoH player the basic idea of what CoT is trying to accomplish.

Oh, and Titan City is at least 40 times larger than Paragon City.

Shouldn't that be Daggerfall?
"THE TITANS ARE COMING! THE TITANS ARE COMING!"
Wow someone's been busy. :)
Not that it provides any more "numerical" data for your list but Fallout 76 has been advertised to be "Four times larger than Fallout 4" which apparently will make it roughly "just as large" as Skyrim. Those two games probably ought to be put on your list for reasonable size comparison to CoT.
Obviously I won't be satisfied with CoT's playable area until it gets close to the number of planets allowed for by No Man's Sky. ;)

I highly recommend this comic!
Re: map size, there was a thread somewhere where someone superimposed a rectangle indicating the size of Paragon City onto the map of Titan City, but I can't find that now. I'd love to see that again. It was really helpful for folks who are more visually oriented than numerically.
Re: hero/villain -- the info we have on this is still a bit vague. We know there won't be separate zones like the old game had, but how it will actually work on a character basis is not yet revealed. While the devs have said it's just a label, and that the tri-axis alignment system doesn't determine that label, they've also said it's not simply something we choose and there is some sort of yet-to-be-revealed in-game mechanics around it. (See most recent discussion here: https://cityoftitans.com/comment/156480#comment-156480)

Yes, I've seen the superimposed map. I've tried to find it myself but no luck so far.

Dang, 40 times larger than Paragon City? Now I'm dying to play this even more...
Just for clarification. The map size for CoT is that total max potential for a single map without actively loading another map, or the planned size of the city itself (doubt we'll have that size city at launch)?
We talked about No Man's Sky, and it was pointed out that it has something like 18 quintillion planets. For all intents and purposes, that is functionally infinite. And it's not that we don't want to create a world that big, I just don't think we'd live to see it. ;)
Wait until you see the... nope, that would ruin the surprise.
Isn't the number for No Man's Sky based on the planets being procedurally generated and fairly basic? My understanding is that this is akin to having CoT continually pop out new neighborhoods rather than hopping onto the highway and reaching a fully fleshed-out Providence. I.e. Each planet is more akin to being its own mission rather than a world. But all I've seen of NMS are some preview and early game play videos.

Aye that's my understanding as well. Hardly the lovingly hand-crafted sort of neighbourhoods we'll be getting in Titan City.

Obviously my statement here was basically a joke. I was simply fulfilling my role as "the typical player who is never satisfied and wants the Devs of a game to do a million times more than is humanly possible". ;)
As far as "living to see it" goes I guess that mostly depends on when you personally think The Matrix will be cranked up...

You get to a point in procedural generation where, yes, there's astronomical numbers of different things, but not in an interesting way.
Like most of Daggerfall
That's simply a current limitation with how computer systems are able to "customize" procedural generation. I suspect we're not too far off from having procedurally generated content being as "unique and interesting" as any a human artist could produce.

Sweet, so there is still potential for it to grow after that without the need for loadscreens?
Yes if you make areas that are a significant distance away, like another city, moon-base, under water, or some such then a loadscreen would be more appropriate than us having to travel "by foot".
Gah, living forever in a computer simulation... the horror. But wouldn't it be great if the game keeps going long enough that future teams of developers could expand the game world into a true WORLD? A game map so huge that it covers a planetary mass?
Wait until you see the... nope, that would ruin the surprise.
... someone should build a virtual developers' studio in a secret location under a city.
We heard you liked MMOs, so here's a MMO with NPC devs who're building a MMO so you can play a MMO while playing a MMO.

Might be a cool thing to have in game actually. CoT is going to have mini games I believe? The virtual dev's could be the in universe guys building them. XD
The "world map" includes areas players can't access, so the playable area will be smaller than the 1024km^2 total area. We are starting with a small section of it, roughly 80 square km, which we will then grow from there.

On the other hand, if you add in the extra ground space of all the instanced mission maps, maybe the actual player-accessible area in the game will be that amount after all? Or more?

Bear in mind, there's an Ocean right next to our city. I doubt that water will be playable content at launch, but there's plenty of room for submarine bases.
Be Well!
Fireheart
YES. I actually made a post about using submarines as missions since there are some pretty massive submarines today...which could be as big as they want in a video game. This also made me think that, really, they could create entire islands off the coast. This would allow the team to expand the playable area outside of the city and give them creative freedom to make different kinds of zones. In-game lore for this could be anything from massive volcanic activity creating an island, magic, a man-made island, a giant monster like the turtles with mountains and trees on their backs, etc.
Compulsively clicking the refresh button until the next update.
Those could be Instances that only last for as long as they're needed, and 'underwater' for Lore purposes, so the devs don't have to build visible structures.
