Names for a Global Supervillain Team

Think membership body and style alongthe lines of the Light in Young Justice, the Legion of Doom in Justice League and the Secret Society in JLU.

This is less a Marvel team of rotating villains and various iterations but a deadly canal that play off the various spheres of influence other members have and work towards a common, possibly tangible goal.

They would also run parallel to the Atlas Initiative supergroup I created, but less of a focus on potential government affiliations given that they are obviously, villains.

Thoughts or suggestions?

They could pull members from

They could pull members from various terrorist and anti-government groups from around the world, create sort of an 'anti-UN' of supervillains. I also think they would at least hesitate to recruit the really crazy types of villains out there, in favor of being a cohesive group that can function together.

Yeah, and I also had the idea

Yeah, and I also had the idea that they would each be a personal nemesis of the aforementioned Atlas Initiative, but I may make that a smaller team, or maybe the first iteration of the team.

Name suggestions and possible member prolfiles or useful powers to have?

Same things that would work

Same things that would work for a hero team really, since this is less a traditional group of comic villains and more like an evil version of a hero team. I think with having to operate underground, they'd have a stronger need for the someone who creates tools and bypass technology without having the same level of tech heros and governments do. Leader would HAVE to be strong willed to keep people on task and from the curse of the supervillain from rearing its ugly head and everyone backstabbing everyone for the sake of their own personal goals.

That might give the group as a whole a whole other level of dedication that surpasses even heroes. Conviction to put aside their own schemes for the sake of a unified mission would be scary all on its own.

Other than group names like

Other than group names like PH's "Cabal", we might want to incorporate their nefarious (or well-intended) goals into their name. "Human Defense League", for example, might be opposed to all the artificial, extraterrestrial, or extra-reality non-humans, especially those who claim to be heroes.

Foradain, Mage of Phoenix Rising.

Only problem is the Cabal is a existing team of Marvel big name villains, which sucks.

I was thinking along those lines, Foradain.

But also, they are a team of highly capable but still well known villains, like a dark mirror to the Atlas Initiative.

I have in mind that membership is earned perhaps secretly, and the leader is perhaps a visible business man but a skilled leader and inventor.

My first thought was Stanton Parrish, under the armored suited alias and double meaning name of Blacksmith, both a reference to his weapons creation abilities and his masterminding of events.

But names like the Collective, maybe?

They ultimately believe they are right, which is what makes them so dangerous. They know what they are doing is wrong but in the world they are trying to shape, it doesn’t matter.

The Council

The Council

There's always tuning something into an acronym ala S.H.I.E.L.D. or I guess turning an acronym into something.

It sounds like the name space you're going for is - as you already mentioned, more like 'The Light' in Young Justice. It may be vaguely sinister, but it's not outright sinister, and it in fact can be construed as positive.

Some random off-the-top-of-my-head name suggestions:
The Cooperative
The Association
The Chamber
The Society
Shadow Cabinet
Shadow Council
The Inner Circle
The Visionaries

I'd say 'The Elite', but that's a DC supergroup, albeit a one-off riff on 'The Authority'... which would also be a good name, but again, taken.

Regarding the logical members of such a group... it depends a little on whether you're trying hard to hit a cross-section of supervillain tropes, or whether the aim is to cover all the bases of what a world-spanning group of masterminds would want in terms of expertise. From the expertise viewpoint, my personal take would be something like...

Villain Members
The Businessman (Business/Economics/Finance)
The General (Military/Strategic Studies/Warfare)
The Spymaster (Assassination/Espionage)
The Scientist (Mad Science/Technology/Engineering)
The Sorcerer (Magic/Mysticism)
The Mentalist (Psionic/Telepathy/Brainwashing)

Now, of course, it's possible to combine some of these archetypes... a General with their own armies could also be a Spymaster. And it's also possible to split them up - for example, the Scientist could be divided into the Engineer and the Biomancer, or something. Some roles can overlap, because Parrish for example does the business/money and tech hats, but this doesn't rule out having a traditional mad scientist type with a big brain and lab coat - indeed, you'd expect a Lex Luthor to coexist with, say, Doctor Sivana. Yes, I realise the original Lex was a straight up mad scientist and the businessman stuff came in later portrayals... people think business suits for Lex now, not labcoats.

I like the name of the Shadow Cabinet or the Chamber. Parrish may actually fill the businessman role, or I may make him a middle man and slight red herring.

Do you have any suggestions for the backgrounds of these people?

Maybe personalize them for each Initiative member?

Leviathan

I really like Leviathan. If it doesn't work here, then I hope it gets used for something.

If this is going to be a counterpart to the Atlas Initiative, then two possibilities come to mind:

Prometheus: Brother of Atlas, and thief of the fire of the gods. Prometheans kneel to no gods, no heroes, no kings. They'll seize the power of the universe for themselves to share with humanity...if humanity is properly grateful, of course.

Sovereignty/The Sovereign: The name is a reference to self-determination in the face of global meddlers like the UN and self-declared saviors like superheroes. It takes on another meaning, though, since all the members consider themselves Sovereigns, kings in a world of peasants.

Prometheans or rather Prometheus has potential, especially given that the name is possibly non sinister and could be used as a front for several operations.

Prometheus sounds pretty cool

Prometheus sounds pretty cool. Some might know their Greek mythology and even believe they're aligned with Atlas.

You could also make it the Prometheus Group or Council or something.

For the members, were you still looking to make them personal enemies of the Atlas heroes, or is that pretty much replaced with the focus roles?

Just wanted to point out in

Just wanted to point out in case you didn't want to appear to be copying, The Prometheans name will be used in the upcoming Ship of Heroes for one of their evil factions.
