Please read the current update for instructions on downloading the latest update. Players with Mac versions of the game will not be affected, but you will have a slightly longer wait for your version of the new maps. Please make a copy of your character folder before running the new update, just to make sure you don't lose any of your custom work.

It looks like we can give everyone a list of minimum specs for running City of Titans. Please keep in mind that this is 'for now' until we are able to add more graphics and other system refinements. Currently you will need :
Windows 10 or later required; no Intel integrated graphics like UHD, must have AMD or NVIDIA card or discrete chipset with 4Gb or more of VRAM
At least 16GB of main DRAM.
These stats may change as we continue to test.

To purchase your copy of the City of Titans Launcher, visit our store at https://store.missingworldsmedia.com/ A purchase of $50 or more will give you a link to download the Launcher for Windows or Mac based machines.

GREAT update! Love it.

GREAT update! Love it.
Costume pieces confirmed. The loincloth being a part of so many costume ideas. (and I love the techno look for such ancient garb!)
Pit wings too were the subject of many posts.
The waist cape! people have been asking for but capes in COH for years - never got them.....and here we have them for launch!

also the quindent is wonderful. it allows for thrusting weapon/spear animations. MORE possibilities revealed to players.

--Some Fishmen will have super powers. some might say we can't make fun of them any more. But I say, D@*m the torpedoes! Taunt away!

Finally, I do not know if that disk is part of the Chargen or not....BUT that would make a REALLY cool way to fly!!!

Cool faction. I'm sure it'll be fun playing through the Apkallu story arcs, fighting monsters, and unlocking everything you guys have in store from that faction. Hopefully this means we'll get some water zones/instances to 'play' in.

But that's only the tattoos, right? I really hope that for other costume pieces (including props) we still get to decide what material we'll use.

This is incredible. You guys are doing things other MMOs would not dream of, and on 1/100th of the budget.

As a player, this creates a really fun "problem" for me. I don't have an aquatic-themed hero in mind, but unlocks and options like these are making me scramble to come up with one. This will probably be the case for every villain and hero group in the game!

Please find a way to let me give you money for this game soon!

It's not "loot". Dr. Tyche said unlocks will come from badges. So you'll be able to track your progress and seek out specific pieces.

This is really my favorite part of this update. I am REALLY hoping this means we'll start getting more pics and vids as CoT is supposedly ramping up to releasing the chargen soon (see screenshot below), which hopefully means the 2nd Kickstarter as well...which would require much more available info, vids, pics, etc, to get people excited and trusting that this project is *actually* as relatively close to actual launch as releasing a chargen implies. Not that I've never been a naysayer of CoT...but I've never considered leaving or not supporting the project. I say that because I really wish I could be there to see the reactions of the naysayers that have sworn off CoT when they see all the coming updates and hear about a successful chargen launch. That would be...satisfying.

Great update guys! I share

Great update guys! I share your disappointment that you guys couldn't get tattoos where you wanted them to be. Maybe something to perfect after launch? Even as-is they look great. Does this also apply to symbols/insignias as well? I know you guys wanted to have it so we could place them anywhere, just wondering if the same difficulties appear there. Also, I'm curious as to why applying colour and glows to tattoos is feasible, but not materials? Is the character's "skin" treated differently than what is "worn" above it?

I was wondering this too. Past demos showed symbols not only being put where we want, but stretched/distorted also. Since a tattoo is basically a symbol on skin this makes me worried that one major character customization feature that has been heavily advertised is now shelved.

Loving the look of the characters. I'm not really that disappointed about free-moving tattoos. The customization of powers such as fire from your hands, sword or a cane, for example, are where its really at. Can't wait until you show that off. Great update. :)

Something went weird with the shot that we didn't quite notice. It is literally the same animation as on the human to the right, just with a different head. My best guess is the pentadent got nudged slightly when setting up the pose, because it's rotated 90 degrees, too.
You will note the human _is_ gripping the pentadent.

I'm seeing a clipping problem

I'm seeing a clipping problem.
That net around the body goes THROUGH the pit wing.

Now, if there was a slider that let you control how far "down the torso" (and/or) "down the arm" the pit wings reached ... so as to give you a way to control how bad the clipping issue was, rather than handing you a (Y/N?) question ... things could get interesting. Heck, even being able to move the vertex at the bottom of the pit wing into the torso, so as to alter the angle of how the pit wing stretches under the arm would be an acceptable alternative (so long as avatars remain opaque, rather than becoming partially transparent in a way that reveals the cheat of geometry).

Yeah with a piece like “Armpit Wings” we were bound to get some crucial clipping issues. But at some point it just becomes a compromise. For example if you wore tights or an armor that surrouns your torso, you will still see this issue. Corrective morphs are not out of question but are certainly VERY difficult to support on a mesh that is %70 percent morphs.

The question at that point really becomes “Can the player really live with this clipping?” If the majority answer is no, it wouldn't be surprising to chop those pieces. But from the get go, I personally think something like this goes into acceptible clipping without venturing into the “game breakingly stupid” clipping area.

So we want to allow as many combinations, in as many permutations as possible and if we have to forgo some clipping while doing the best that we can with the tools and parameters we are given, (such as this one) i think it would work in the player’s favor as it becomes their choice at that point.

Well it's a good compromise

Well it's a good compromise to have, saying there can't be pit wings at all because they'll clip with anything you put on your torso would be dumb. Question though is, what's unlockable and what isn't? For example I could see the spear and the skirt being something you have to unlock and buy, but the pit flaps and the head fin? Those should be free.

This is truth.

In Champions Online I experimented with mixing different costume pieces and changing body proportions to intentionally make parts clip with each other to look like something they weren’t intended to be. Clipping isn’t always bad.

I also used clipping in other ways... Is there a cape that you like but the top of it is unattractive? Put some bulky shoulder pads over it. It might even look like the cape is part of the shoulder pads.

One trick is to make the different pieces the same color and material. Now instead of two pieces clipping you have one interesting piece.

Materials require unique shaders for each. More shaders on the screen, the slower everything runs. Color or even emissive within a shader does not add the overhead of a new shader.

For a lesson on shaders, look at Final Fantasy XIV... the original Final Fantasy XIV. They went overboard with shaders, and we all can remember how much of a bug-filled lagfest that was.

Wonderful stuff, MWM! This

Wonderful stuff, MWM! This confirms my hopes that this game will have a look that feels familiar to players of the old game, yet which has evolved to meet modern expectations and capabilities. At the start of this project I would have struggled to describe exactly what that would be, but now I can point to this and say, 'You know, like that.'

I also commend you for the ability to realise when implementing a feature is so problematic that it would cost too many resources to have it for launch. It can be a tough call when both devs and players want something, and too often development projects can fall down a rabbit hole of endless delays and overruns when they can't bring themselves to call a halt on a feature. Of course the nice thing about an MMO is that almost everything that can't be in there for launch has a chance of showing up later.

Finally, I liked the notes on alignment. There has been much discussion of player character alignment, but this is the first time I've seen an NPC faction placed on the tri-axis. I find examples like this useful in understanding the overall system from MWM's point of view.

Keep up the good work!

Yes and a good deal more intimidating. Having five holes poked into me (instead of three) makes me a lot more serious about buying that bullet proof armor.

I didn't even notice that at first; but now that I've seen it, I can't unsee it.

If this were on a player character, I would say it was a good example of copacetic clipping. It's there, but it's okay. But since this is on a character designed from the ground up by the devs to exist in the game as this model (or is it?), I would say it is an unfortunate error. Not big in the grand scheme of things, but avoidable. At this point, however, I wonder how much effort it would be for the artists to go back into these assets and remodel them when I'm sure there are so many more assets they need to complete.

I like to take your ideas and supersize them. This isn't criticism, it is flattery. I come with nothing but good will and a spirit of team-building. If you take what I write any other way, that is probably just because I wasn't very clear.

If this were on a player character, I would say it was a good example of copacetic clipping. It's there, but it's okay. But since this is on a character designed from the ground up by the devs to exist in the game as this model (or is it?), I would say it is an unfortunate error.

The whole point of this guy is that he's a player character, with a different head on him. Every part there can be used by a player.
Including the head.

Yep. With nothing to improve, no new inventions would ever occur. then again, I've always claimed that laziness was a prime component of many inventions. "There has GOT to be an easier way to do this!" has fuelled things from using horses, and eventually trains, planes and automobiles, to washing machines, etc. :)

We all have to keep these kinds of things in perspective. I'm perfectly willing to live with the "limits" on tattoos for this game's launch. Remember that when CoH first launched it did NOT have capes, wings, animated tails, and it never really had animated hair (unless you count Ghost Widow) but most of those challenges were eventually overcome. I'm fine with letting MWM have extra time after launch to tackle these various issues.

Totally. Those who only remember the last couple years of CoX are a bit spoiled. I remember the enjoyment of first getting tails that moved, backpacks, wings... What debuts is not all we'll ever get. As is, we'll be starting with more than CoX had for most of its run. We have much to be thankful for.

Isn't it so that you don't "build" a full NPC (as in one single solid 3D model) from the ground up but rather "put it together" from the same parts (mostly?) and using the same base system as PC will use for their characters?

Perhaps a Giant Enemy Crab. Maybe with a weak point that could be attacked for massive damage.

You are almost completely correct, sir. There's a few more points to the matter, but that's how NPCs are assembled.
(Then we bake it down at the end for performance reasons)

Personally I'm not bummed

Personally I'm not bummed about not having the ability to place tattoos on the body in desired locations, mainly because I don't think I've ever put tattoos on my character in any game ever. That's just me though, but it's good that there is a potential for that to be fixed later on, I know there are probably quite a few people who would desire that feature.

Otherwise though, this update did just about have everything that I have been eager to see more of. And as always, can't wait to see more!

The Capechaser entry notes that they use magic and enchantments.

In a relatively recent post, Where We Stand: Landmarks, we find a section about the Central Library in Alexandria.

Quote:

Originally conceived of by Nikolaus the Bloodied as his own personal cache of forbidden magic, Arcane Sentinel mystics usurped the construction project and sealed Nikolaus out via complicated wards. Sentinel mystics occupy and run the building to this day, guarding the cache from the grasp of evil. The Central Library serves as a source of mystic information for players. The building is heavily warded against evil magic, and makes a perfect target for power-hungry mages or demons concocting plans to get at the secrets within.

If they try it again, Hypatia Argyros will be there, and she won't be using a mop handle this time!

I can definitely see why it wouldn't be a priority for a lot of people. I'm certainly one of those players who desires tattoo options. I have them IRL, and like to give my characters tats if it's an option. But I'm also generally happy enough just that there are options actually provided at all. Now, custom placement would be awesome, but just having a decent selection (of not horrible tattoos) is plenty enough till if/when any sort of customization gets added in.

To an extent I think which game you're playing has a sizable impact on tattoo options. In many(most, really) you're just going to be covered head-to-toe in armor/gear, so it's not like you'll ever see them anyhow. But games like CoT, where there's the customization ability to actually display them, there's a lot more reason to want them.

As a person who remembers CoH

As a person who remembers CoH launch and how many costume parts the game ended with... I can wait for stuff, adding more costumes during the life of the game inspires new hero ideas, lets you update old heroes, and lets you morph your mains story around why they are going through a visual change.

CoH was at its heart for me a social game more than anything. Im not even sure I ever really maxed out a character. Spent to much time listening in and participating in stories.

My question is are these faction sets earned through working for or against the faction? Or will there be subsets within the factions that allow the earning of the gear?

I'd be surprised if we got to work for or with the Akpulla faction as they want to wipe out Titan City. My guess is through badges we will get these pieces unlocked. Like, kill 100 akpulla get x. Do 10 Akpulla quests get y. Something along those lines would be my guess.

Yes, I think even most Villain characters would have reason to NOT let, much less HELP, the Akpulla destroy the city or the world. Even if it's just a Dr. Doom style "This is MY world. You will not harm it!" :D

Depends on the villain. Also depends what they want to ask the foolish humans to do.

Like, help us doom the world sounds bad. But steal this thing for us and we'll give you a ton of gold? Sounds pretty good from a villain perspective. Like sure, they plan to doom the world but, eh, the heroes will take care of it. And while they do you buy a super nice yacht... Just in case.

Yes but also seeing as how we can use all the apkallu parts I'd like to make an apkallu. So if I could earn rep with the race by doing missions for them and gain badges and parts that way it would be preferable to killing my brethren. Plus I love to swim

Also "watch the world burn" type villains, villains who want to manipulate them, religious nut jobs that agree with the Apkulla's vision of the superior fish people ruling over the world or ones that believe that life is nothing but suffering and think of killing people as a kind of mercy

On tattoos, I definitely will trade anywhere tattoos for glowing tattoos :)

I agree. Liked the glowing tattoos. Gave me an idea for a magic based character that gets their power from the arcane tattoos on their body. This all looks great. I can't wait to see the costume creator. Great job one and all!

Like the Atlantean Tattooed Men in RIFTS-- or the Japanese yakuza assassins in many comics, anime, etc., who get supernatural powers from their tattoos.

Those are good examples but I'm actually hoping for an option for a "full body tattoo" that would simulate the look of being a robot like this:

This would allow for androids/gynoids that look "almost" like humans but obviously not quite because you can still see the gaps between their outer plating.

Sort of like Nebula from

Sort of like Nebula from Guardians of the Galaxy. Though she also has some clearly metal parts too.

Yep. As a full-body tattoo a player wouldn't need any other "special robot parts" and could wear any kind of clothing over it. You could even wear enough clothing to completely "hide" the tattoo to try to pass as a normal human. Lot's of RP possibilities.
