Patriotic British Superhero - Name?

I need help naming a patriotic British superhero I've been thinking of. The most obvious name, Captain Britain, is already taken. I'd prefer the name to not be gender specific, as the character can be either male or female (in fact I might make that a point in the backstory, not sure yet).

I'm still working on the concept, but basically, the character wears the proud colors of the Union Jack, and uses mystical artifacts as the primary means for combat. Any ideas?
I like to take your ideas and supersize them. This isn't criticism, it is flattery. I come with nothing but good will and a spirit of team-building. If you take what I write any other way, that is probably just because I wasn't very clear.

For mistic artifacts you gotta use a Trident and Shield, maybe even a magic helmet.

I'd be tempted to say Hero

I'd be tempted to say Hero One, that was a great british hero.

To keep off CoH related names...hmm...

The Bloody Awful (from Bottom)

Union Jack

Captain Britania

Fish 'n' Chips (or could be a super hero duo there)

Cockney Crosshair

Guyfawkes (could be a fire-based hero, combining into two names or two seporate if you wished)

Cromwell

(just stealing names off people from the past now...)

Best I've got I'm afraid for something that's uniquely British.

I have an interesting idea

I have an interesting idea you might find som inspiration from:

Consider your character suffers from multiple personalities, or is actually a combination of three entities.
You can call him Andrew Peter and George (for the three saint's crosses that appear in the Union Flag)

I know that name sounds like a lot, but it would be unique and evocative and just quirky enough to really give flavor to the character.

Andrew is the ascerbic and contrary Scottsman
Peter is the scrappy but kindhearted Irishman
George is the dominant and proper English personality who holds the three together; sometimes handing the reins over to one of the other two as the situation warrants (and sometimes being overruled if the passions flare high enough)

another option might be another callout to the design of the Union Flag:

Cross Saltire
I like to take your ideas and supersize them. This isn't criticism, it is flattery. I come with nothing but good will and a spirit of team-building. If you take what I write any other way, that is probably just because I wasn't very clear.

There have been a few Union Jacks in Marvel. One of them fought beside Captain America in WWII on the Invaders, as Britain’s contribution to that team. I thought he had an awesome costume.

Marvel’s Union Jack on Wikipedia

I like the idea of the Golden Lion as a symbol of English strength, as seen on the country’s Royal Arms.

So, a name and costume inspired by that might work.

Probably the sort of person who, if Russian, would codename himself, "Durak."

(Note that in the original Champions, there WAS a Russian supervillain codenamed, "Durak.")

Union Jack is a Marvel character, in case nobody said that.

If Scottish, Claymore is good. Also, I like Broadsword as the English variant of that. Or Longbow. The British longbow was an iconic weapon of a certain era.

Since there are already plenty of horrible/hilarious suggestions, here's a way to produce some useful names:

1) Obtain a list of British naval ship names. Wikipedia is very helpful here.

2) Cross off all the ships named after people, or mythological entities.

3) Pick from a wide array of names chosen by the British government to represent the best of their nation.

From the serious suggestion

From the serious suggestion department:

Three Lions - obviously a reference to the crest already linked in this thread - it's commonly called the three lions - but also a nickname for the national soccer/football team, and a football anthem
Lion Rampant - the crest of Scotland, or the Lion Rampant of Scotland - though people might associate this with Destiny gear
Old Bailey - the building that houses the central criminal court of England and Wales
Boudica - queen of the British Celtic Iceni tribe, fought the Romans
Avalon - Arthurian reference
Camelot - Ditto. I mean, you could also go with Excalibur or something, but that's commonplace.
Saint George - or St. George, etc. The English flag is the Saint George's Cross, and it's part of the Union Jack
Ascalon - technically a city name, but with this spelling, more commonly known as St. George's lance or sword
Curtana - Sword of Mercy, used in the coronation ceremony, part of the Crown Jewels. The legendary version was Tristan's sword, supposedly also later used by one of Charlemagne's paladins. Alternatively 'Cortana', of course, the pop culture spelling people are familiar with, but the ones in the Tower of London are specifically spelt Curtana, IIRC.
White Tower - central tower, old keep, of the Tower of London
English Rose - old term for an attractive Englishwoman. Also possibly something like 'Tudor Rose', etc.
Dreadnought - the popular culture naval battleship usage comes from the HMS Dreadnought - archaic term for 'fearless', of course.

One issue you'll probably need to consider is whether the character uses patriotic iconography for the United Kingdom in general - i.e. the Union Jack, etc., or whether they're more specifically English, Scottish, Welsh, or Irish. Stuff like 'Three Lions' and anything related to the legend of St. George is particularly English.

Interesting! Seems to be an alternate swords-and-sorcery version of Captain America, from particular stories, rather than a regular character... so I guess that's unlikely to be an issue if someone wanted to use it? Maybe just 'Avalon' would be fine, and there's any number of variants like 'Agent Avalon'.

There’s sort-of already a Captain Avalon in Marvel. But otherwise the name would be unique for a hero.

My thought exactly.

"Pound Sound" as in 'sound as a pound.' There are lots of connotations you could run with, on that theme.

Lord/Lady Sterling. Sterling reputation, currency or famous location, though the battle wasn't so good for the English forces.

That battle took place at Stirling with an 'i' so you're safe there.

All this talk of names being

All this talk of names being taken makes me wonder what the full extent of the gray area is, because it's impossible for names not to be used in multiple works from unrelated creators. I remember people saying my character "Mecha SubZero" violates Mortal Kombat's copyright, but going by that logic MK must of violated Marvel's copyright with Scorpion. Thing is, you can't copyright a name, only trademark it. I'll consider these names and come up with the full backstory later.

The "grey area" is when you try to use both a name and a character concept together that are too close to someone else's IP. Just copying a name by itself or a character concept by itself is usually not that bad - it's when you try to completely "clone" an existing character by copying both its name and its appearance/concept is when you get people willing to sue you for it.

It's the same thing I was trying to explain in your other thread a few months ago.

Exactly, thought I wish some

Exactly, thought I wish some people knew this more. It seems any time a concept has a similar name or concept you have people saying "X will sue!" because they have no idea how the law works.
