Pardon my ignorance, but what exactly is Discord? I've seen people talk about it all the time but never paid much attention to it.

[url=https://discordapp.com/]Discord[/url] is a 3rd party voice/text chat service that's supposedly geared for gamers but it can be used generally like Skype. It would be a good alternative for CoT so that the Devs don't have to create a system like that from scratch just for CoT.

Oh didn't know that, but frankly I don't remember ever hearing about anything Discord related here so I'll still keep it especially when the countdown to the game's release begins. I think it would be fun to have all the dedicated players for CoT to be on one server where we can talk to each other. In other games I feel lonely most of the time since I'm unable to connect with other players and start comraderies and friendships. After playing mediocre MMOs for several years now I've learned that more then half the fun is playing with others. CoT I hope will take my gaming experience to a new level cause I'll be surrounded by people who I've talked with on this forum and will be getting to know them better and forge unique bonds that I could only dream of having in other games. When this game releases, I'm abandoning all my current games (except Minecraft)

When this game releases to the public there should ideally be a huge amount of people, most of them with their own friends and communities with established channels.
Having a "people that have been killing time on the forums for many years" discord group is cool but the kind of launch this game is aiming for by necessity means a volume of players well beyond that, the vast majority of which will be people no one on here has met before and would never know this channel existed.
Still nice to have a place to babble with other fans for the time being. Thanks for setting it up!

It would also be more helpful to think of it as an 'already available source of valuable help and guidance' for new players who would desperately need it. Obviously not the only such source but there for people who prefer that sort of medium.

What is the difference then between Discord and these forums? I'm not bashing the idea, just genuinely curious since I've never used Discord or any service like it. If all you do is chat about the game why not just do it on these forums where you can also have dev input?

Well the big difference is that Discord is primarily a "voice/text chat" service that's mainly designed to be used while playing games (like Teamspeak). It's generalized enough to be secondarily used for anything really. Think of it like an Internet-based "[url=https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Party_line_%28telephony%29]party line[/url]" from the old-school "telephone" era.

The Forum is great at this time for the game isn't out yet, but the Discord server is more for when CoT comes out. From my short time on Discord I'm amazed how many people I have gotten to know there. Some servers there are cancer but many have some cool people. While this Forum is a great place to share opinions and post updates for the game I beleive Discord could be used to bring us closer together. One of the things I've heard about CoH that makes me wish I played it was the great community it was. Unfortunately I have no TARDIS, But I hope I can benefit the CoT community with anything I have at my disposal

Yeah, Discord is generally used to foster closer communities and it also has voice chat so you can use mics to talk to others. Generally most forums I have been too have had discord servers attached to them for all kinds of things.
The only issue with Discord servers other that some servers can grow very toxic is that some servers can grow so large with members that you will probably feel intimidated at the sheer amount of people at first glance. I generally tend to join smaller discord servers due to this.
I’m sure the Discord server is great now (and I’ll probably join) but later when the game is released and it grows it might be less pleasant.
I'm afraid of the community turning sour when the scum from DCUO and other garbage games move in. I hope we can maintain a wholesome and friendly community cause nothing brings joy my gamer heart then to see players that actually care.

People had the same concerns when Paragon Studios announced that CoH/V was going F2P/B2P model, so much so that more than a few scrammed off to the subscription-only server from my home server of Champion. There was some doom-crying and whatnot about the final death-knell of the game (at the time, going F2P was [i]not[/i] a good sign) and all that jazz, and yes, there were some negative elements that came along with going that route, but the community survived and grew (literally and figuratively) from the experience. And, as Posi stated, going F2P/B2P was extremely profitable for the company, which allowed them to generate more content for us and continue on as a company. Additionally, I know quite a few people who were traditional F2Players that went the subscription route because of the quality of the game and the generally positive outlook and composure of the community.
Long story short, I'm going to do now with what I did then and withhold judgment until I see it pan out.
I've been playing Raft and the developer team created a Discord Server where you can talk about the game, bring up bugs, etc. I feel like a lot of the things done on the discord are pretty much satisfied with this site. The only thing this site is missing is chat(IM)/voice chat. But if the actual game has the ability to create specific chat(IM)/voice chat groups then I feel like there would not be much use for a Developer Discord Server, not that I would mind/care either way.

-friendship have been born , don`t believe me, ask you're self haw many time you read a forum and was liken what an particular person was saying, and then you follow him , start cheating whit him,
-future leagues will come from the forum i all ready seen party's unofficial that have been made

So I fully admit I have an anger management problem. It’s why I don’t put up with things that aggravate me if I don’t need to. It’s why I left Discord. If it allows people to make fun of -any- group (in this case because of body type) then I really don’t need to be there. Think that’s a failure of the community and it’s a failure of the moderators.

No. He means I called an avatar fatty and he got upset with it. No one insulted any player. And as someone who up until a few of months ago was fat, I don't feel bad about calling an avatar ie not real person a fatty. :p
So, yes, discord is still very much hospital as no one insulted any player.
Trying a second time:
You called out a -group- of people by mocking their appearance. It doesn't make a lick of difference if it's an -avatar's- appearance or not. The appearance is still being mocked.
You couldn't mock an avatar based on it's skin colour. Or Gender. Why is it okay to mock -this- group? Is it just because it's more acceptable to make -this- group feel like garbage about themselves?
