Full of strange statues, green lights at night, dangerous things that come out after dark
with a city as old as Titan city, this could be an entire zone.
Missions here could relate to family curses, helping the dead to find peace, and of course..."Go. Kill Skulls!"
By day the missions are different. a Gang could haunt this place but leave before dark. Night is when this place is the most dangerous.
---surprisingly, this cemetery is still a prestigious place to bury the dead...the well to do still come here.
The mortuary operates by day only. The city shuts this place down by night...but won't say why. PITT has an office in the Mortuary, and patrols the perimeter by night.
Heroes need to register their presence with PITT to enter by night. They are warned there is no rescue coming if help is needed.
The statues move when you are not looking. some cry and weep tears. at night small groups can be seen digging up bodies. Mausoleums appear at night that were not there in the light. some nights are worse than others with many more active dead than expected.

Reminds me of Croatoa in COH. A lot of good memories!
"A sad spectacle. If they be inhabited, what a scope for misery and folly. If they be not inhabited, what a waste of space." ~ Thomas Carlyle
Could be like a mission zone. Death's Domain. Fight a load of zombies, ghosts, skeletons, and the like all to a heavy metal soundtrack.
"Let the past die. Kill it if you have to."
Reminds me of Neverdeath Graveyard in Neverwinter, where there's an absolute ton of tombs and necromancers are going there for the centuries of dead.
An infinite number of tries doesn't mean that any one of those tries will succeed. I could flip an infinite number of pennies an infinite number of times and, barring genuine randomness, they will never come up "Waffles".
Sounds like something Necromancers would do, the bastards.
"Let the past die. Kill it if you have to."
That does look extremely cool for a zone idea and there are all sorts of interesting options for an area like that. Go full ham with the monster movie cliches, don't hold back. Ghosts, vampires, mummies, werewolves, zombies, skeletons.
You could have a wide variety of mission content from the absurd and wacky army of darkness style stuff to the more somber "ghost wants revenge" style story and everything in between.
And of course, a bardic necromancer, whose zombi minions dance...

I was thinking Dark Astoria myself, before and after the revamp.
I don't know how to link YouTube videos on my phone. You all are lucky. I was going to like the video for Spooky Scary Skeletons
"Let the past die. Kill it if you have to."
I want more than zombies...they are overdone. A good writer can make ghosts far more frightening.
Frankly I would rather see animate statues...maybe a MWM version of a weeping angel...than another lame zombie.
Try this: statues that move when you aren't watching them. Tombstone inscriptions that alter their words. Vampiric ghosts that drain bits of your life with a touch (exotic damage with no special effect).
Some ghosts are more disturbing than others...like the ghost of a child, or a family pet. Try the ghost of a big hulking murderer with the executioner's rope still on his neck.
I am so freaking tired of zombies. give me something else please.

I always thought DA was a good balance of zombies and spirits with the Banished Pantheon wandering around in the fog-enshrouded streets. One of my favorite things to do was hunt Giant Monsters, and Adamastor always brought out the badgers. And after the revamp, Masks would spawn there too so you wouldn't have to just hunt outside the DA gate in Talos at night.
Actually, I was thinking of this:

That is true, But what I want is a VARIETY of the dead. There are a lot of different ghostie types you can use. NPC type ghosts never attack. The standard screechy spirits were all over Croatoa....but when you have no idea what type of ghost you are facing, it becomes a lot more interesting. Is it a life sucking ghost, or a shreechy, or a new kind?
Variety of powers while looking the same might be fun.

That's Croakamancy not necromancy

No argument here!
I can't believe people are posting dirges and zombie dancers without NECRODANCER (yes I did build a setup with DDR pads just for this, drunk coop is something special)

Aw man one of my favorite YouTubers did a rock version of that sound track and/or was involved with the soundtrack if that game: Family Jules. He's awesome!
"Let the past die. Kill it if you have to."
His work on the expansion is magnificent. My favorite track
His work in general is magnificent. I love that he's broadening out a bit, doing acoustic covers, adding in ocarina bits, and all sorts.

I agree Rockapella's rendition of the song is excellent. They're one of my favorite bands.

I agree. Zombies are so tired and overdone (imo). It'd be refreshing to have a focus on other types of undead instead.
I think it'd be really cool to have a coven of vampires out in the graveyard. Maybe even operating out of the tombs. You could roll with a "leader" vampire and a few of his/her compatriots that are much older and more powerful than the rest, with a group of newly turned 20-somethings as a gang of sorts, with a bunch of un-turned thralls in their employ. Particularly if they have mez abilities, they'd easily be able to hold a large amount of territory just with their baseline vampire powers. It could actively lead to some fairly interesting storylines.
An infinite number of tries doesn't mean that any one of those tries will succeed. I could flip an infinite number of pennies an infinite number of times and, barring genuine randomness, they will never come up "Waffles".
Any one of the many monster types/tropes from the Witcher series would likely work as well and that's just using European lore. They could easily incorporate afro-caribbean tropes or east asian tropes given the background of the city as a trading/shipping center back in the 1800s etc. Lot of dead sailor-types probably none too keen at being buried on land/far from home...
If we are talking about monster movie villains then I would really like to see some traditional types mixed in with the more interpretive ones.
Scientifically created Vampire are cool and I enjoy them but I also enjoy classical renditions like Dracula and Nosferatu.
A gang of motorcycle riding werewolves are fun but how so is the textbook 'turn at the full moon' Wolfmen.
Creatures from the Black Lagoon, Blobs (complete with growth potential), Bigfeet/Yeti and so on. Even the classic stalker type villains like Jason or Michael Myers could be used as special foes in the area.
I'm not saying to not be creative with these types of villains, just that some archetypal representation be include in addition to the unique takes on them.
ALL THE MONSTERS
I'm excited to see how the monsters are, in general, in the game. AFAIK they haven't really shown any villains besides some concept art for some of their already-confirmed villains like the Five Dragons, but those were humans.
As for more in-line with this post, I love all the suggestions. I think a graveyard zone, or even mini zone, would be really fun. GARGOYLES.
Compulsively clicking the refresh button until the next update.
Now THIS is a proper undead invasion:

The first post made me think of the graveyard from the VtM:Bloodlines game. But that didn't make sense to me. All the noise from the fighting... anyone within five blocks would have known something was up. I mean, to successfully win, you're probably going to be using firearms. No one responds to that much gunfire in the middle of town?
That got me thinking, what if the danger of the cemetery isn't physical. People suffer possession or energy depletion when on the grounds at night. There's a witch-doctor who can send you to the spirit plane version of the Graveyard (think the Gloom/Twilight from Night Watch books, or the Umbra from white wolf games). It's in that shadow world version of the cemetery where the real craziness happens, and where you can get to the real root of the problems.
I knew it! It's those d**n trees!

I prefer my invasions like this:

I have a special fondness for the werewolf pack in 'The Things We Do in the Shadows', a New Zealand made mockumentary about a vampire coven I find absolutely hilarious.
The werewolves have formed a men's support group in order to help each other through their emotional issues so they don't get fraught enough to shapeshift. When any of the group start using bad language the leader tells them:
'Come on lads. We're werewolves not swearwolves.'

Variety of the dead is the spice of online horror.

This pic freaks me out the most. Glorious deception with a moldering reality. This one needs to be a boss with a horde of skeleton minions.
what makes it worse is it looks just like the minions when revealed...it could throw the players off when some of the horde goes down with a single blow, yet this one takes an entire team to kill.

Perhaps she just wishes to reward the hero with a kiss. You know … for … interfering in her schemes.
This is a vampiric undead, she feeds upon the death of mortals. a kiss is an enticement to certain doom. I've met such creatures before. Not every kiss in the game should be a reward. With a city full of supers...nothing is as it seems.
When you see a beautiful girl swimming in a reflection pool at a cemetery...it pays to be a bit more cautious...
