Not sure if this was discussed, or confirmed, I couldn't find anything and im not sure if "environment damage" is the correct term, but I think it would be neat to have some dangerous parts of the environment that if your player got close to, it would cause damage over time.
An example of this would be the lava in ESO where If you step in it or even fall in it, your character can lose health or even die.
Some ideas for COT would be exposed electrical wires after a bank robbery where the villains caused some kind of explosion or a fire.
Likewise, it would be cool if your character could put out fires. I can just imagine a team of players walking into a bank that was just under attack, while everyone is discussing where to go or whatever, someone in the background is dousing the flames with their ice ability. It just makes the experience slightly better imo.
What are your ideas?

Seems reasonable if used appropriately.
FYI, better phrasing of what you're describing might be "Environmental Hazards". Environmental damage initially made me think you were asking about something like destructible terrain.

Done and updated! Thanks! lol

Yes I think there should be Environmental Hazards at least in PvE areas. That question might be a little more problematic in PvP situations.

I like this idea, but I especially would love it if players could use them (and be threatened by them) creatively. Villains falling into lava or acid or similar stuff is thematic. If players could do even more and create such hazards, or villains could do so and force players to respond to them, then that would really spice up combat too.
I think we will see some tactical environment control to some degree even if it isn't damaging as some of the revealed powers have been wall summoning effects if I remember right.
Punching bad guys off rooftops is satisfying, doing it into fire is even moreso.
I agree, it would be a nice way top spice up the world, set up ambushes, and otherwise make the world feel like a living character in the game.
In some games there are barrels laying around (I'm looking at you DCUO) such that, if you target them, they have an effect. Some are explosive, some are blinding, some are caustic. You can tell by their looks what kind of barrel they are. I like this and it adds an extra set of options when you see them. For CoT, I think it would be nice if we could expand it/modify it to include power lines we can cut so they fall, transformers we can target so they explode. And we could do it with gas lines we can rupture, fire hydrants we can knock over, automated defense systems we can bait the enemy into, port-a-potties we can blast open, and suspended pianos we can drop on unsuspecting heads.
I like to take your ideas and supersize them. This isn't criticism, it is flattery. I come with nothing but good will and a spirit of team-building. If you take what I write any other way, that is probably just because I wasn't very clear.
As long as they're not just floor hazards, else flying characters will have an advantage.
Get some like, gas clouds... Or something.

I like where all these suggestions for environmental hazards are going. devs!!

Flyers would not have that much of an advantage indoors against many of these hazards. And outdoors you could always throw out some AA guns that would -only- target people not standing on the ground. ;)

Don't stand in the Lava!
Be Well!
Fireheart
This sort of thing has been discussed before, and the problem always comes down to power sets and character concepts. Would a character that is pretty much made of fire get harmed by lava? Would a character with electric powers get harmed by loose wires?
Spurn all ye kindle.
That's true.
It's a thing that's easily rectified in a tabletop game, but less so in a video game.

Molten lava is not the temperature of beach sand on a sunny day. Neither lava nor molten steel ought to be a slow DoT environmental effect giving you plenty of time to get out of it (for all intents and purposes relatively unscathed once you heal). No ... lava and molten steel ought to be INSTANT DEATH for anyone except types that have incredibly high Heat Resistance (and even for them, it ought to be a relatively quick faceplant).

You could always have environmental hazards do specific types of damage. Fire, acid, cold, blunt, electric.....
Those types of damage will mostly be in the game anyway to some degree right? So have a fiery environmental threat do fire damage.
Then characters who are resistant to fire will resist it much better than those who aren't.
Lethal, energy, and exotic are the damage types, if I'm remembering them correctly.

Land mines. Invisible to the naked eye. If the minions are taunting you from the other side of a field...don't be so quick to teach them some respect.

Well you could if you have a sniper rifle or something equivalent to it.
Physical, Energy, and Exotic.
And you will be able to use any aesthetic that is applicable. You can have an invulnerability character look like fire and another look like ice.
