I know there was mention of a psi powerset. I was wondering if there was a chance of adding a pet to a psi powerset? I was always upset that we never had one. There's so much you could do. Mental guardian, astral spirit... a mentally projected hallucination that attacks enemies? Pretty plz!

Psychics need love too
With aesthetic decoupling probably almost any set can be a psi set!
"Let the past die. Kill it if you have to."
The main reason why Mind Control from CoH didn't have a pet was that it didn't actually need one.
To explain it another way the reason why most of the Control powersets got a level 32 pet power was to give them the offensive/combat capability that they were lacking from their Control powers. For instance Fire Control was actually one of the weakest powersets in terms of total Control capability. That's why it got 3 very DPS heavy pets (Fire Imps) because those pets helped to balance its relatively weak Control capability. On the other hand Mind Control had pretty much the strongest innate Control capabilities. Because its powers were relatively strong the Mind Control powerset basically didn't need any pets to balance it out.
I guess we'll see how the Devs of CoT manage to balance out its Control sets but it's always possible it'll use the relative strength of its pets as a means to do that just like CoH did.

Well, the sets seems to be something akin to...
This is a ST focused straight damage set.
This is a ST focused over time damage set.
This is an AOE focused straight damage set.
This is an AOE focused over time damage set.
So, my guess would be the control sets would be something similar.
Heavy control, no damage.
Light control. lots of damage.
All with the same DoT or burst damage, styles.
/em polite cough
Confusion
Mass Confusion
Confusion was your Pet Power. Make ANY non-PToD $Target your Pet for a while. Use of Confusion didn't even draw aggro onto you! It was even functionally "perma" right out of the box! And you got Confusion EARLY on while leveling! You could even attack a Confused target and they wouldn't fight back against you while they were Confused!
Mass Confusion (or as I always called it, Mass Comedy) was Target AoE Confusion. Want to see your enemies massacre themselves and each other while you /em popcorn? Mass Comedy has got THEM covered!
Fire and Illusion Control sets needed the extra Pet spawns. Mind Control didn't need to have "defined" Pets, since literally (almost) any hostile Foe NPC in the game could be turned by you to attack their (former) allies. Heck, I even used Confusion to SOLO Honoree in the Incarnate Alpha Slot arc along with Atta in The Hollows and a bunch of other "you shouldn't be able to defeat Arch Villains as a solo Controller" just by using my targets against each other (although this did require extreme patience).

Except for the Single Target Damage Focus, hat is definitely not how the control sets are designed.

I don't think Brand X was suggesting the first four cited sets were Control sets. Those were being compared TO the hypothetical control sets at the bottom of the post.

I have a concept based on just that. a gunner that shoots psychic bullets.

Will they use a PSY-per rifle?
"Let the past die. Kill it if you have to."
Oh, I have no idea. Just based on the idea that we have a base set and then we add effects, I just imagine, we're not going to have sets exactly like CoH had them setup, when it comes to terms like Control Sets.
Fire Control had little control, so more damage. Well, in CoT there is no fire set as any of the sets can be made to look like fire.
Personally, have no idea why Control Sets in CoT have to have pets attached to them. What does Pet have to do with Control? It's not like one controlled the pet in CoH on the controllers.
Well what did the defense sets have to do with dealing damage like fire armour, or controlling and debuffing like dark armour, heck what did a range damage set have to do with controlling like psychic blast did or debuffing like dark blast. These additional powers made what CoX what it was by effectively making it so that you could break the holy trinity if you where creative enough, making it so that the holy trinity and your AT's place in it more of a suggestion than anything else.

Bit different.
What those sets did was more of a themetic approach. Having a pet was less about theme/concept and more about "Hey cool power."
Which, btw, I'm not against. :p
For Illusion Control, I find it makes lots of sense. Though something like Nature and Fire control, it would seem more akin to magic than mutant power for instance (not that a mutant couldn't have that ability).
Yeah but hey it was a cool power that a lot of people liked.... sooooo.... there's that :]

I do think we tend to get wrapped around the names that MWM gave the power sets. Let's not forget as Project_Hero mentioned that every set can be a summoning set, or a psionic set, a fire set, a dark spirit set, or even a knife throwing set. So, if you look at the power sets and hold your fingers up so you don't see what MWM called them, which set will have the effects you want for your proposed psychic abilities?
I like to take your ideas and supersize them. This isn't criticism, it is flattery. I come with nothing but good will and a spirit of team-building. If you take what I write any other way, that is probably just because I wasn't very clear.
I loved my psi abilities in COH. I never really played that toon because it was tricky to master or even make good enough for PVP. PVE hated my telekinesis and confuse. Mass confuse missed a lot, but my plant/thorn dom had seeds of confusion and you don't know how many times it saved me last minute in PVP.
I would love to make a psy toon that includes telekinesis, confusion, psychic assault type abilities. All of that would be awesome.

We need a telepathy set that allows you to dodge everything a single character throws at you, as you read their mind! :D

A power animation where you levitate things and throw them at folks would be nice. Could be psychic, could be gravity, could be magic like Raven in the Teen Titans cartoon; she's always throwing stuff.
"Let the past die. Kill it if you have to."
I would love that. But the animation would have to be on point. Meaning you slowly lift up your hand as the object rises, then you throw out your hand and the object goes flying in that direction.
