I don't talk about my life normally, but today was just one step too far. Because transparency is important, and this will impact MWM, I'm electing to share.
A year ago, I gave up my day job to focus on MWM. I am ultimately a manager and task tracker, and the need for someone to do that is too great especially at this late stage, so my family and I decided we were ok with me putting in long hours for no pay. For those who don't know, I live in a fused household, my family and my sister's family. It is better for us all financially this way, and enables me to stay home and focus here. A few hiccups, illnesses and injuries hurt our finances, but we managed to hang in there and had finally begun rebuilding. Then in less than 24 hours, had everything drop on us at once. My sister's company announced that they were shutting down her office, and laying off most of their 2,000 staff. Then, two hours later our landlord told us that they decided not to renew our lease when it is up at the end of next month. (To be fair to the landlord, they had been having issues renting houses, with a neighbor selling their house in 6 days on the market, and with the housing prices around here double what they were just 5 years ago, I can't blame them for looking to cash out)
How this impacts MWM: My house is the legal address for MWM. As such, we will need to move the address elsewhere. When we know where this new address will be, we will let everyone here know once we have it secured. In the meantime, I'm scrambling to find a new place to live while we're also dealing with the layoff. In the meantime, can use any thoughts, prayers, and house for rent leads.

My thoughts and prayers are that this all becomes one of those stories that people who are highly successful because they just wouldn't give up tell in interviews. The kind of story that starts with "it got so bad at one point that..." and ends with "...but we kept going and here we are today, a successful game developing company!"
But for now, I know it just sucks and it's scary. There but for a couple of bad turns go I, so I can imagine. Know that you are truly appreciated and let us know if there are ways to help (I'm down south so I won't be much help with rentals :/).

I'm sorry to hear about your hardships. Having gone through layoff and then losing my house during the housing bubble burst I know what you are feeling.
Don't feel lousy about the GoFundMe. We are your community and if a bunch of Heroes can't help a fellow who giving his all to our future Digital home. Then we don't deserve to put on the cape. We are heroes but more importantly, we are a united community! I will give what I can when I get my paycheck. Won't be much but it be something.

Now that the game has been in development for the past few years I think it is time to start up another Kickstarter for funds for the developers who have poured their heart into this game or if funds are available from the original Kickstarter use that to pay some staff for all the hard hours they put into the game
That's the goal, at least in terms of paying salaries to people who are critical to the (further) development of the game, but they want to have something to show for it before they have the "second chance" crowdfunding. From what I've gathered, at this point it may all be rolled together into some kind of early access event.

We have a lead on a few houses, but they're in a different school district. I will apply to let my son continue at his current school through to graduation, and drive him every day if I have to. Worst part is, they're actually no further away from his school than where we are now, but school district boundaries and all that.

The elementary school down the street, which is also the polling location for my precinct, isn't in the school district I'm in for some reason.
I've gotta admit, the Japanese system, where high school is optional, you have to pass an entrance exam to get in, and there's plenty of public transit so you just go where you need to, starts looking attractive. It'll never work here because the various political jurisdictions couldn't get along enough to make it happen.

I don't think it's the political jurisdictions not getting along that would stop that. It's the passing of an entrance exam to get in, that would stop that. Schools are already going "It makes the kid feel bad to be held behind, so no more that, we'll skip them ahead and hope they catch up." :p Imagine the parent outrage if their kids failed the entrance exam. They wouldn't blame their kids, they'd blame the teachers.
In England kids are moved through school regardless of ability. Though there the completion of highschool doesn't matter as much as the like, 2 or so big exams you take during your schooling.

'72, had an engine fire so the wiring harness got damaged. Have a new harness for it, and bought a new (well, new-ish, late 90's Mexican) engine for it. It's the Superbeetle, so has a pretty good ride. Have the old engine + a rebuild kit for it as well. Used to be an autostick, have all of the parts for that should anyone want to restore it, but it's so tempermental....

I carpooled with a guy once who had a thirty-something-year-old Beetle.
The seats were held in by gravity and you could supplement the brakes by sticking your feet through the holes in the floor, but it ran like a top!
Well, downhill it ran like a top. Uphill was like a much-less-enthusiastic top.

You can kill them, but it's damned hard. The original motor for mine failed due to the dual-stage oil pump that Autosticks used finally clogging up. The second one (the one which was in the fire) needs new main bearings. The new one will likely last another 200,000 miles before it needs rebuilding.

And one of the main reasons he's dead? Not the heart attack or stroke; he might have had neither. The lack of air bags, crush zones, a collapsible steering column, and other modern safety engineering. Also, he might have left the road because of a steering or braking system failure. There was no investigation to rule it out.
So please be careful in that thing.

Well, I ultimately gave Charlie to my good friend Bee, who'd lost his car in an auto accident and needed something for getting to work. As for Hans the Squareback, it can't even go highway speeds without overheating the engine.
