I had a thought similar to this.
Say for example the character had his first showdown with a gang in a place called Mettle Alley--then the character could be called the Mettle Alley Rottweiler. (Place name subject to change to whatever's appropriate of course; this is of the top of my head.) This maintains the core identity of the character but also emphasises his "street" nature and his roots in the neighbourhood of his origin.
I'm no expert in copyright so I have no idea if that's sufficient or not.

Well, there is a name of the Norse Wolf God. Fenrir (pronounced “FEN-reer;” Old Norse Fenrir, “He Who Dwells in the Marshes”[1]) is the most infamous of the many wolves in Norse mythology. Son of Loki! Should be in public domain the same rules of why THOR is in multiple stories but only one is the Marvel Thor. The name of Thor alone isn't enough for the copywrite the concepts and costume applies.
So Fenrir even if the Wolf God is depicted in other comics, movies, and books. As long as he isn't an exact copy or really similar the name Fenrir is fair game.

Has anyone seen my mind? It was right here...
This hero is basically a street-level vigilante who patrols (I assuming) the more run down areas of the city. A name like Rottweiler or Doberman (or my favorite, Boxer Hound, if only for the doable meaning) fits well, because in such urban setting the guard dogs is a symbol of protection. I don't think Fenrir really fits the concept.
Beside, any character named Fenrir would become Little Red Ragnarok's obligatory nemesis.
I like this one. Probably because of how my weird mind works - it made me think of another street-level vigilante Casey Jones. Which isn’t too dissimilar to the un-named hero’s background as a street level hero.

Personally it think it's a little too obscure to broadly convey the tough guy feel that the iconic Rottweiler breed does. But that's just me and I'll love him either way :D. Plus I can't come up with a better usable name.
Well, I was thinking maybe a "phrase name" like "Werewolf by Night" or "Kraven the Hunter", but couldn't come up with one I liked.
FIGHT EVIL! (or go cause trouble so the Heroes have something to do.)
Cane Corso sounds almost like a superhero's 'real' name, but the comics would spell it with a 'K' and anglicize it to 'Kane Korso', which is SO Wrong!
The Italian is much more expressive, 'Cah-neh Cor-so'. He might even have a few 'issues' to work out with the Black Rose. I like it!

I was thinking the same about it being too obscure. But I think can work to our advantage by making it his real name. And he goes by Canine which is a play on the name, but the layer of play upon play would mean more to those who know the breed

Agreed that Cane Corso sounds more like a Secret ID name than a Super ID name ... and also agreed that making the name have Italian (Corsican?) origins and backstory (prior to the origin story in spandex and kevlar for the Super ID) would work out quite nicely. For one thing, Cane Corso has a sort of "Bruce Wayne/Dick Grayson vibe" to it in terms of how easily such a name could "pass" as a regular person's name (if they come from an Italian family in particular). For our purposes, of course, it would be just fine if the Corso family merely has Mediterranean origins.
Of course, doing that then invites thought about "natural enemies" with the obvious one being Cosa Nostra ... The Sicilian Mafia ... and its American branches in particular. To my knowledge, I think Titan City ought to be well stocked with "mafia" type NPC Factions (more than one?) and this particular vigilante could progressively "rise through the ranks" of Heroes alongside the PC and show up in stories and missions that include those themes.
Just a thought.

+1 for Cain(e) Corso!
Alright, I'm warming to the idea of an Italian or Italian-American hero. Italy has a rep for tough guys and it makes the name make much more sense. Plus possible Mafia story elements as Red said.
And They Call Me Jeeg was awesome :D.

Gonna toss my hat in for Caine Corso as well. I think that's probably the best one of the entire bunch.
An infinite number of tries doesn't mean that any one of those tries will succeed. I could flip an infinite number of pennies an infinite number of times and, barring genuine randomness, they will never come up "Waffles".
Caine Corso works for me too, it isn't perfect but it does the job that it's supposed to. Most importantly? We won't sued over it.

I vote for Caine Corso too, and my vote is double since I'm italian ^^".
Caine sounds better than Cane imho (but you need to create a reason why he uses an english name if he is italian, either a fake name or an english mother/father?). I was also thinking about "Kain Corso" but there is less similarity with "Cane" and it would become more difficult to understand the origin of the name.
I also agree with many for the possible story, related to mafia groups making him so mad that he would become a superhero.
The only trouble you need to think about is what Redlynne said: Caine Corso sounds like a real name, therefore you may decide that he is using a fake name to get close to the "dog" appearance, or that he is using his real identity in public (maybe because he completely lost family and friends already and doesn't fear to use his real name as a vigilante, or maybe he even wants to use his real name on purpose as a kind of pay-back/vengance for the "Corso" family name). He may have followed some of those criminals to Titan City, or he lost the family right there during a trip.
Another possible story: he was already some sort of famous mercenary without the mask (therefore now he still uses the famous name Caine Corso, but with a scary mask in addition, to terrorize the criminals even more with both appearance and reputation). Regret as a reason for his change of morality: maybe his mercenary-past caused the death of the family etc. when he got paid in advance by criminals of some sort, for a work (assassination of an innocent?) he decided to not finish, therefore breaking the "contract" and causing the rage of the criminals which wiped out the Corso family.
That is a great name. Unfortunately, it's also a character from DC Comics.

I'm liking Caine Corso. It's a bit obscure and mysterious-sounding, and seems cool when you get the in-joke. Also it sounds like it could be the name of a tough guy.
Okay, I cheated and went to Seventh Sectum name generator. Caine Corso could be the secret identity name just doesn't ring for a moniker.

The Night Mauler.
The Mauler.
HEY! There's already a Mauler (of course), but a quick search didn't turn up a Nightmauler or Night Mauler. Me likey. Fits the tough guy vigilante and canine angles. It even sounds a little like Rottweiler.
And, if it is already taken, you could maybe even go the whole "Knight Mauler" rout and get the Brittish angle, or phrase/title name it and go "Caine the Nightmauler"--double pun with Cane Corso and biblical Cain.
+1 Night Mauler if free or variant. That's a pretty strong name for the concept. It's a name that could have "Beware the" in front of it. I wouldn't want to mess with The Night Mauler.
Oh lordy. I'm getting sucked in :P.

Yes I like It. Bradford Boxer. It tells me that this is a boxing vigilante from a certain part of Titan City like how Daredevil was once called "The Devil of Hell's Kitchen" That should at least be the name he is given early in his crime fighting career.
I accidently ate a bowl of radioactive soup....ok I guess that makes me a Soup-er Hero
I like the combination of The Bradford Boxer and Caine Corso as the "secret" identity. As Red said Corso does have a nice ring to it as a "Family" name. It also ties in well with the game lore, having a character that names himself after the area that he looks after. Gives a play at the protective nature of a guard dog and his turf. Or in other words, he's marked his territory xD

Many boxers had the moniker "Mauler", including the great Jack Dempsey "The Manassa Mauler", so Night Mauler has a boxing/fighting connection too.
Or Street Mauler, or Back Alley Mauler :P. Dunno, I just think the combination of the animalistic connotation and the use in fighting sports makes some permutation of "Mauler" a great choice for him.
FIGHT EVIL! (or go cause trouble so the Heroes have something to do.)
But Boxer has a double meaning Boxer as in fighter, and Boxer as in the dog breed. Mauler gives me a more villain vibe.

It seemed too obvious not to already be in use, but after I read this I did a couple of searches and didn't find Bulldog either. My little 2 inf would be behind Bulldog or some name using it if the Mauler thing isn't going get a bite.
FIGHT EVIL! (or go cause trouble so the Heroes have something to do.)
Dr. Tyche was the one that suggested The Bradford Boxer and I think it's perfect because:
1. It shows he's from or is simply the protector of the Old Bradford area of Titan City
2. It tells us that he's a fighter as well as dressed in the appearance of a dog.
Sure it's not the coolest name on this thread, but for what information we have gotten from the Devs about him I think that until he becomes a more well known titan in Titan City this name is perfect for his early career. Whether he changes his hero name in the future or not is up to the Devs.
I accidently ate a bowl of radioactive soup....ok I guess that makes me a Soup-er Hero
Alright, I'll see your Bradford Boxer and raise you Bradford Bulldog, or, even better, "The Bradford Mauler". I like how that last one has a very "The Devil of Hell's Kitchen" feel, like it was given by the public/media rather than chosen by the hero.
And by the way, I'm of course cool with whatever is chosen my MWM and Rottie, I just got infected with naming fever :).
FIGHT EVIL! (or go cause trouble so the Heroes have something to do.)
No, Boxer is way better than Bulldog. In-depth nerdy explanation to follow:
Modern bulldogs are not scary or dangerous. In the old days they were tough dogs, but... the dog shows dictated certain traits, and as those traits got more and more exaggerated, bulldogs became less and less tough. Now, they're very friendly dogs, but also very slow, can't really maneuver around very well, and can't be born without surgery. It's gotten bad enough that bulldogs are now the #1 example of the damage of too much selective breeding. Three out of four bulldogs have hip dysplasia. They overheat extremely easily and have numerous heart problems. Even though the kennel club lists their lifespan as 8-10 years, actual average lifespan is about 6 years now. Boxers live to between 10 and 11 on average and their biggest health problem tends to hit before 2 months, so if they live past 2 months, they're usually fine. They're also taller, faster, more maneuverable, and have better endurance than bulldogs.
Basically, what I'm saying is, if a bulldog attacked, you just kind of have to walk at a brisk pace, and you're probably fine. If a boxer attacked, you'd have to defend yourself. People aren't afraid of bulldogs anymore, unless it's a mixed breed. 3/4 bulldog 1/4 something else could be very healthy/dangerous. Actually, mutts tend to be the healthiest dogs, so I'd vote for a name with Mutt in the title. Mutt also has a strong "street" vibe to it (because wild dogs are usually mutts). But I also like Boxer.
Had to look that up, and a rapper using the name should keep it clear for a super hero to use it.
I have a pretty little red nose pibble named Olive, so I have to +1 any Pit Bull based name on her behalf :).
FIGHT EVIL! (or go cause trouble so the Heroes have something to do.)
