ConundrumofFurballs: Thanks for the example of how a conversation might go! In your example, you show the possibility of allowing the player to potentially flirt with NPCs. I'm one of those roleplayer types, so for me, this is amazing. Is the reverse true? Will there be NPCs that find your character attractive after you get notoriety doing heroics (or villainy)? Or even better, maybe your character winds up with a fanclub and there is an NPC who dresses like you and is the head of said fanclub while doubling as a quest NPC. Just curious.
Having a fan club could be neat. With the idea of someone dressing like your character though you could have a bad guy trying to tarnish your good name, or have to go rescue a bunch of civilians who, donning an attire similar to yours went to fight crime.
Though that would make things weird if your character was just a mass of energy, or a guy in a powersuit, or had any number of odd costume additions...
Probably best to not have folks copy your character's look now that I think about it... I mean maybe for a doppelganger fight. Or have one that's all coated in dark or light energy for an evil/good version of your character.

At this particular point in time, we do not yet have any NPCs that would do any of that. However, we've still got a lot of writing to do, so who knows what will shake out?

Cosplay competition ... and the perils of fandom.
There has just GOT TO BE a story in there somewhere. I mean, the first Kickass movie did something similar by having a cosplayer of Kickass getting murdered on the street by the Big Bad™ of the movie, and then the Big Bad™ later found out that [i]he murdered the wrong guy[/i] (who did like children's parties and stuff, not the actual crime fighting).
Because, let's face it ... cosplay and fandom conventions ARE A THING. Heck, City of Heroes had costume contests several times per day in Atlas Park on the Virtue server. It would be downright weird to think that there would never be anything like a ComicCon (CapeCon?) in Titan City, where there are superheroes in the streets EVERY DAY and every night! And who are those cosplayers going to dress up as? Duh ... the famous, the infamous, and the downright obscure.
I mean ... NOT having such a thing be a part of the city's cultural landscape would be like having a city built on a coast with a river ... and no boats or docks anywhere to be found. It would be like having an internet ... without trolls. Or a city with lots of cars ... and no gas stations.

To Redlynne: Heh. That'd make for an interesting tip. "Fan murdered for cosplaying as YOU!" I remember CoH having similar with tips that had someone identical to you being an active villain. But yeah... generating fans (and generating recurring villains!) would be pretty fun. Didn't Champs have a villain creation tool for after a certain level where you make your own recurring villain?
