Character (re)creation

So now that we have high-level powerset identities, I've started thinking about the CoH characters I am most likely to recreate in CoT. First and foremost is my main, Crimson Shroud, who was a Spines / Dark Armour scrapper.

Looking at the powerset descriptions we've been given, it seems likely my first attempt will be building him as Massive Melee / Atrophic Aura. MM sure looks like it fits the Spines bill in terms of being the AOE damage set, and the AA description sounds like it matches what Dark Armour did (as it also could, I expect, jive with both Fire and Ice concepts).

Anyone else started thinking about how to bring their old heroes back to life?

For years now.

For years now.

I didn't want to just remake them however, instead I want to reimagine them for the new game. Kinda like Marvel's ultimate universe. Changing backstories, identities, powers, but keeping the essence of the character.

My original main in CoH was a Fire Controller so obviously I'd have to "reimagine" her to be something different in CoT. I'm sort of leaning toward redoing her with Psychic Control but I'll likely wait until I can experiment with how things actually work during open beta testing before I nail anything down for sure.

I had something like 30 other alts in CoH but there's really only maybe 6 or 8 of them I'll seriously try to recreate in some form or fashion in CoT. I'm guessing I'll eventually make more alts beyond that but they'll likely be firmly based in the CoT system/world and not "spiritually related" to CoH's archtypes/powersets at all.

If the Devs provide kitty

If the Devs provide kitty ears and tails in the launch Character Creator, then I will be able to recreate my *male* character!

I am not very good at playing male characters, so this one is a bit silly (and possibly not-quite-PC, though my former SG mates got a chuckle out of him and took him in his proper context)!

Of course, I may reimagine him, but that will depend on certain factors in the lore, locations and general atmosphere of City of Tabbies!

[By "not-quite-PC", I mean that he uses words like "toots" and "doll/face" -- which are supposed to reflect that he is from an earlier era.]

What became my namesake, Brand X, started out as a Dual Blades/Willpower Scrapper. :) Been playing for years before I made her, was actually waiting for Dual Pistols to show up to make her, but then I saw Dual Blades and was like, "I could make the concept I've been waiting for now..."

I'd actually love a combination of weapons for her with a Agile/Regen style defense with slight durability/weather resists :p

EMPYREAN

At launch...

Bulwark: Atrophic Aura Primary (golden fire and light animtions)/Kinetic Melee Secondary (golden fire and energy animations)/mostly Atrophic Blast Tertiary (golden fire/energy/light animations)/Bruiser Mastery

...until Bastion comes out, then,

Bastion: Atrophic Aura (golden fire and light animtions)/Atrophic or Kinetic or whatever appropriate Assault they come up with (golden fire/energy/light animations)/ some appropriate Control and Support Tertiary powers (golden fire/energy/light animations)/Bruiser Mastery

Origin/Bio: Former fighter pilot turned Astronaut. Science-based fusion metabolism "living sun" type solar powers from piloting the first manned Solar probe, due to it being sabatoged by some nefarious organization. Later augmented by being given an arcane artifact of a sun god conferring sun-based magical powers and protections. I'll work in what nefarious organization and what artifact and what god based on CoT lore like I did with CoH, Champions, and DCUO.

No big tragedy in his past, decent childhood, nothing emo, nothing weird, not an antihero, not an antivillain, not a Boy Scout, just a guy. He's not perfect, he just wants to use his powers to do the right thing and help. Story drama comes from his trying to actually do the right thing and how difficult and confusing that can be.

Especially when you nasty villainses out there mess with his head :P.

PS RP Edit- Empyrean has highly refined and precise control over the exact amount and type of radiant energy and plasma that he produces--plus added mystical solar powers--so he can easily keep things "less than lethal". No immolating jaywalkers or "arresting" people with multi-thousand degree temperatures :P.

FIGHT EVIL! (or go cause trouble so the Heroes have something to do.)

I like seeing a hero with no real tragic background. I know some might consider my own main's background tragic, but I always liked to play it as she didn't. It just was. The idea being, the story isn't about her coping with a tragic background, but rather her adjusting to a world that wouldn't see her sense of justice as a good thing (I imagine most don't care about justice in the real world :p) and just trying to live some semblance of a normal life for someone who has a sense to be a thrill seeking justice seeker :)

So, Empyrean sounds like a cool hero to be around :)

Actually, thanks to aesthetic

Actually, thanks to aesthetic decoupling, I'll be able to create something I was never able to do in CoH: main characters from my book series, or at least some variation of them.

Safehouse is a guy who as a kid tried to rush his magical development and "broke" his powers. Because of that, although his body is constantly brimming with power, he cannot use conventional magic, instead having super reflexes, enhanced strength, and the ability to create powerful energy blasts. He won't be fully developed until we have the gunner class (please please please be relatively soon after launch, I'm begging), but I'll start him off as a partisan until then.

So as he's trying to figure out his place in this whole wide world he's decided to become a hero in Titan City. He has a lot to learn, and is going to find that justicing is a lot harder than expected.

Basically he's a dude whose goal is to find out what he really wants.

Name: Safehouse
Ranger: Gunner
Primary: Force Blast
Secondary: Atrophic Aura
Tertiary: Kinetic Melee
Travel Power: Parkour
Status: Traveling. Following rumors of a huge city in Massachusetts that is teeming with supers.

(Apparently I should have posted this topic under general... poor planning on my part!)

I'm liking the thoughts that have been expressed with regard to reimagining characters rather than straight up rebuilding them. I had servers full of alts whom I'd like to see return. Many of them had concepts defined by the powers and appearances available - now I have the opportunity to start with the concepts (mostly, I hope) disconnected from powers and build them from there.

I think I need to start shortlisting. Likely starting with one of each archetype - oh who am I kidding. I'll have at least two dozen lowbies running around by the end of week one :)

Oh yeah Project Hero, feel free to list!

My villain main was an MM so I'll have to wait :( Although It'll be fun trying to explain what took him ;)

My hero main was a typical MA/SR, but the character he's based off has a bunch of other bells'n'whistles: a bone blade out of his arm, electric blasts, gadgets, leadership, good stuff, so I'll have fun loaded tertiaries on him.

Always been a huge fan of the

Always been a huge fan of the old supernatural horror movies and books. Wolf Man, Frankenstein, Dracula, Zombies. That sort of thing. So my main character Dreadlight, Katana/Willpower Scrapper, was heavily based on that sort of theme. Just a regular guy with nothing special about him visiting the great City of Heroes. Instead of running away with his arms flailing like a smart person he ends up getting caught in the crossfire of a hero vs villain fight (I think at one point I said it was a Ritki invasion to throw some interdimensional alien goodness in there) and gets himself killed. Luckily, or unluckly depending on how you look at it, the undertaker at the mortuary was a mad scientist who had a knack for stealing the bodies that wouldn't really be missed.

Using a mix of mad science, technology, and a touch of necromancy he created his very own fully (almost) functioning Frankenstein monster. But like all mad science projects something goes haywire and Dreadlight escapes to find himself with no memories and superpowers. Super strength, durability, endurance, and able to harness the electricity used to "power" his body. It was a fun character with a lot of ups and downs as far as where he fell on the morality scale. Not quite a hero but not a villain either. Right smack in the middle as a Vigilante the cops hated and the bad guys feared.

I loved playing the character so much I can't really see myself playing anything else. My altitis in CoH was mostly just different "versions" of him. So I'm definitely going to be recreating him with a new backstory but keep the core of the character the same. Werewolf instead of Frankenstein monster. Mythology and magic instead of science and technology. His past is more complicated than tragic. Wanting to do good, even if his idea of good doesn't conform to everyone elses, but still struggling with being a monster while taking down worse monsters.

As far as powersets... Depending on how it plays I was thinking Super Strength or Massive Melee / Atrophic Aura or Grit. Leaning towards Enforcer. With the masteries I hope it can feel more like a Brute.

Old favorites that I'll re

Old favorites that I'll re-make are:

Star Sentinel- an alternate version of Empyrean with stellar instead of solar powers/origin (was fire/energy tank)

Bog Beast- swamp monster type with plant growth powers but only affecting his own body (was spines/regen with thorn animations and a mix of bio and plant costume)

Monolith Man- stone "strong guy" mutant with density control (not a stone tank, wanted my own look. ss/inv with effects turned off and stone-theme costume)

Demon Dog- magically altered werewolf detective (claws/wp with classic masked detective costume. Only very subtly "wolfy" looking.

These old friends of mine WILL patrol the streets and skys of Titan City :).

I had a very limited number

I had a very limited number of "serious" characters. Aside from Crimson Shroud as mentioned in OP, the only one I'll definitely be looking to remake is Akele, Born of Ashes, who was a Stone/Fire tank. Saved from a massacre as a baby by a UN peacekeeping force, he grew up in their camp and quite naturally wanted to join their ranks once he came of age. His powers have only recently begun to manifest, and he's gone rogue from an assignment to hunt down the mercenaries who wiped out his village.

Depending on name availability, I have at least one new character to build as well: Turmoil. Based off my first hero from the old Marvel Super Heroes RPG from the 80's, he manipulates sound and light to blast and disorient his enemies. I'll have to come up with a better backstory for him because looking back on it, grade 8 boys are not as clever and inventive as they think they are :)

The second tier - not super serious but not obviously smartasstic either - would include:
- Radical Freeze (Ice/Rad controller)
- Shamandalie (D3)
- Solitary Dancer (Kin/Shield stalker)
- Zenith Prime (Invul/NRG tank)
- The Unfleshed (Dark/Fire brute)
- etc. as my old brain struggles to recall them all

I don't even know where to start with my assortment of novelty characters :)
- Punchy McKicker (MA/SR scrapper)
- PrimalConcreteSledge (Shield/Stone tank)
- Hammerdroids (Bots/Thermal mastermind)
- Bolt Longshaft (Archery/Elec blaster)
- HonkyTonkBadonkadonk (Fire/Kin controller)
- Choclit Thunda! (Elec/Dark tank)
...and so many more! (Seriously, I'm kicking myself now for not at least making a list of all my dorks.)

Well, Little Red Ragnarok

Well, Little Red Ragnarok would be easy to recreate. She was a Broadsword / Regen Scrapper (which represented her berserker style of combat - mind you, this was before Willpower was a defense set). In CoT, I can see her as being Super Strength/Kinetic (with a weapon) + Grit. Her concept really stems from her design, which I hope I can recreate.

My main CoV villian - Pumpkin Princess, would be harder to design. She was a Plant/Fire Dominator. So, I have to see which control set best represent plants and mind control (Seeds of Confusion was an awesome power). With Aesthetic Decoupling, any one of the slated control sets might work. Her fire blast will have to be a ternary power if I want to roll her at launch. Her backstory will definitely change.

However there was characters I never got the chance to play or barely played, like Ariel Combat (who I wanted to be Staff / Bio, but she would have a completely different power in CoT). Other minor character, now that I think about it: Nuclear Witch, Doctor Darkside, Glass Cannon, Snow Wight.
