Perk for the up coming Second Chance

Geveo mentioned that it might be a good idea to include perks for the Second Chance funding and Tyche suggested we put our heads together to come up with some things. I figured I would start a thread so people can offer suggestions.

These rewards are intended to not only reward new backers but to offer rewards for those who donated to the original Kickstarter. The Second Chance funds are going to go mostly towards expediting the development of City of Titans (largely towards moving from volunteer to paid employees). Keep this in mind as any suggestions that will require extended development time are unlikely to be considered.

The current word on those perks is that those who previously contributed to that Kickstarter will be eligible to increase their donation to obtain a higher tier perk from that list.
An example of this would be if you had previously pledged $10 you would have gotten the 'Construction Crew' perk which entails access to a round of the beta, your name on a sponsor wall as well as the lower tier rewards from 'Armchair Hero' of a forum title and set of desktop wallpapers. If you now contribute $15 more you would get the 'Bright Lights Big City' rewards of a reserved in game global name, in game Kickstarter badge, exclusive costume and prestige travel power in addition to the previous rewards.

Lin Chiao Feng wrote:

This is basically the first outing of the cash shop, and the various Kickstarter tiers will show as "products" you can buy, with some caveats (these are to the best of my knowledge):

The limited tiers will show their "stock remaining". The limits will not change from the first Kickstarter.
The top two ($7500 and $10000) tiers will show as unavailable/sold out.
You can only buy one tier per order: adding a new one replaces the one in the cart.
The price of a tier is the difference between the price of the tier you have and the one you're getting.
The tiers at your current level and below will be marked unavailable.

As a result of this we won't be including the previous Kickstarter perks/rewards in the Second Chance perk/reward suggestion list.

Kickstarter Perks

Armchair Hero - We’re thankful for every bit of support. Everyone who sponsors at the minimum level will receive a set of Wallpapers in common desktop resolutions featuring the work of our talented artists. Those who join our support forums will also receive the forum title “Kickstarter.”
Construction Crew - This perk engraves your name ( or proxy ) on the sponsor’s wall in the Atlas Hurricane Memorial Park and confers access in one of the closed beta access waves + All previous rewards
Bright Lights Big City - Sponsors at this level receive a handsome bundle of perks. First, you’ll get the opportunity to reserve your Global Nickname before the general release. Additionally, you’ll see the following in game rewards: A Kickstarter only badge and title for our founding heroes ( and villains! ), an exclusive costume set that will never be available again, and a prestige travel power + All previous rewards.
Home Sweet Home - This includes a full copy of the game via digital download, a month of VIP subscription, and advanced account activation during the release weekend giving you a headstart on public play + All previous rewards.
Fly Free! - At this level you’ll get an additional two months of VIP access and the Kickstarter exclusive Phoenix Travel Aura + All previous rewards.
Dynamic Duo - Twice the fun! The level confers an additional set of Fly Free! rewards for a friend or family member, including all additional rewards from earlier tiers for both accounts + All previous rewards.
Geocacher - Put your mark on the map, literally. Create your own Exploration Badge on the game map. We will work with you on the location and text, within design requirements + All previous rewards.
All Your Base - One of the base features we’ll be implementing are secret entrances. At this level you’ll be able to use an additional set of doors only available to sponsors of this level plus correspondingly themed base decor + All previous rewards.
I Know A Guy - Help name and design a mission NPC in the game with our talented writers and artists + All previous rewards.
Registered Lethal Weapon - Design yourself a custom single weapon or prop in partnership with our talented artists. It will be exclusively yours in-game for the first year or first four issues after launch, whichever is longer. You have the option of granting access to this to others of your choosing. + All previous rewards.
Double Trouble - Create an additional weapon or prop in partnership with our talented artists. It will be exclusively yours in-game for the first year or four issues (whichever is longer) after launch. You have the option of granting access to this to others of your choosing + All previous rewards.
Fashionista - Design a custom costume texture to your specifications to be available in the game, exclusively for your characters. Costume components includes gloves, boots, belt, pants, shirt, cape, chest logo, and mask, with the addition of a custom weapon or prop which is exclusively yours in-game. It will be exclusively yours in-game for the first year or four issues (whichever is longer) after launch. You have the option of granting access to this to others of your choosing + All previous rewards.
Big Dog - Your NPC from “I Know A Guy” is upgraded to the owner of a major social hub within the game (nightclub, training center, store, etc). Additionally, you’ll have the *exclusive* use of the base portal within that business + All previous rewards.
Key to Titan City - Your character is famous throughout the city. Everyone knows your character. Billboards celebrate or condemn your exploits, regular news broadcasts will include your character. You will get an exclusive base location within a city building of your design. Your custom logo will be used on spotlights throughout the city to signal you for early access missions Additionally, the city has erected a statue in your honor, complete with history plaque + All previous rewards.
Sanctum Sanctorum - Join us at our launch party at a major convention. We'll get your badge and room and some grub, but you will have to find your own way there. Conventions and date to be determined + All previous rewards.

I will be paraphrasing and consolidating individual suggestions in this thread in order to make the list easier to read. If my re-working of your suggestion turns out to be mistaken or just flat out wrong please let me know so I can correct it.
New suggestions will be in bold.

Updated List of Second Chance Perks/Rewards Suggestions

Swag items (key chain, mug t-shirt, ect)

Backer designed hero emblem.

Specific hat design

In game graffiti referencing the backer.

A street or park named after the backer.

An enhancement like item named after the backer.

Location lore that mentions a character of the backer. (Similar to the Kickstarter 'Geocacher' perk, should it be removed?)

An exclusive Second Chance emote.

A developer inspired non-combat pet.

Beta access (most original Kickstarter perks include this, repeating it would be for new backers)

Exclusive base item, such as a NPC butler or Hologram of a backers character.

Exclusive non-combat power like a teleport to the Titan statue once an hour

Reserved character name (not global name), character names are not going to be exclusive in game. This gives exclusivity for 1 year.

Exclusive animation set, prop or particle effect for backers.

Change the 'S' in backers name or eyes to '$'. (can you please explain this better Cobalt Azurean because I am at a loss as to what this really means)

25% discount to the monthly subscription cost for a period of time

Small business or storefront named after the backer.

A single billboard for backers. Possibly one that rotates images of the backers. (Billboards are included in the Kickstarter 'Key to Titan City' perk, this is a less encompassing version of that reward)

Plaques, magazine/newspaper covers, posters, bench ads ect that reference the backer.

A building that only the Backer has access to. (Dark Ether can you explain what you mean because I don't see 'have a building' in the Kickstarter perks).

Bonus 'Stars' (The currency term for RMT purchases in the game).

Flag inspired emblems or costume designs. Specifically Pride Flags for the LGBT+ community. (If I may. Voldine, I am not sure we should have Pride Flags as an exclusive perk for supporting, it would probably be better served as a regular costume item that everyone can access. Perhaps you can suggest this in the costume request thread.)

Exclusive 'Shoulder Plushie' costume item.

Early access to the final release.

A physics lab or mens club that references a certain forum thread. (Not sure if this works as a perk but maybe someone can think of a way to make it applicable to multiple people obtaining this reward).

Access to exclusive development information. (Grimfox, can you explain this one more?)

Extended subscription time.

Alternate Phoenix pet. (I am not seeing a Phoenix pet, I see a Phoenix travel aura. Can you point this out to me Geveo)

Multiple 'Instant Sidekick' pets.

In game NPC shout-outs for backers.

Special developer interactions at a convention (something about coffee)

Future update input

Backers avatars will be used for loading screens

Artist rendition of backers character (developers have refused this)

Backer designed Costume Change emote to be completed in a future update of the released game.

Exclusive use of NPC costume pieces or Complete NPC costume

Keep making those suggestions.

How about a special animation

How about a special animation set, only available to backers, just like that costume set that's only given to backers, Or a special set of props only backers could use, or a special particle effect?

An entire animation set might be a big ask, but if it was a very high tier perk it might be ok. Props and an effect would probably easier.

Just a reminder, after the first kick starter the devs found that the perks they offered wound up being a huge endeavor to fill. As MWM has stated a desire to use the second chance towards speeding development (mostly by moving away from volunteers towards paid staff) loading them up with too much extra work is counter productive.

Fine then, how about one really cool looking animation for backers, or a snazzy particle effect for your powers, like the Kirby crackle aura that's going to come out except it's a particle effect for your weapons. Though if I had to choose just one it would probably be the Kirby crackle particle effect, since someone could do more with that then one animation...

I like many of your ideas for in-game perks here... as things we might be able to get some version of post launch. I have always worried that many (most?) of the KS goodies that MWM offered may prove to be too much extra work for them pre-launch. I get they were trying to offer as many "enticements" as they could during the KS to get people to denote, but I often wonder if they went a bit -too- far with it. I guess like many things time will tell if the KS items proved to be too taxing pre-launch or not.

I like this idea it'll be a way to contribute more money to the development and receive a thank you in the way of discounted monthly subscriptions!

Here are the best suggestions

Here are the best suggestions i'll point with a +1 ^^ in my preference order

1. A street or park named after you. (I think a street is less work than a park and i think there will be not enought park xD)
2. A special non-combat power like a teleport to the statue once an hour (of yeah ! like the recal in League of legends :) That could be a really nice thing ^^ and, more over, we could buy differents recall animation ion the cash shop ! ) or an NPC fan who you can summon once an hour to come praise you (i don't see the interrest for me ^^)
3. A 25% discount to the monthly sub cost. The more you give the longer it lasts (nice idea. but limited due to the fact that it will depends on how long the new content will be online. i would prefer the 10% discount on the x following updates of the cashshop, where x will depend of how you give in the kickstarter)
4. Beta access (i think for the 2nd or 3rd level of subscribers will be nice)
5. Graffiti in a few areas that praise either the actual user, their forum name or a character they will have. (Or even something like a commemorative plaque with our names as "victims" of the great fire in Titan City ^^)
6. Specially designed base item, like a hologram of your founder or something. (nice one which can be easily do)
7. Location lore that mentions a character you had previously.

Pretty nice ideas ! :)

I cant think of any ideas

I cant think of any ideas right now but some of the ones mentioned are good so far like having graffiti of your name somewhere or maybe engraved. Maybe naming an NPC or being mentioned in a mission.

Or maybe you get immortalized in the game somewhere. Could be on a newspaper article permanently stuck on the ground or pinned up on a wall somewhere. Or on a magazine cover or billboard. This would be your character of course once you make it in game.

I did the mogul perk and got

I did the mogul perk and got a bunch of stuff that went over $2000 in the first Kickstarter. I am fully prepared to drop a lot again in this KS if they come up with some options that inspire me to do it again (mostly because I want to support the game, but honestly, that mogul perk really got me to go a lot further in contributing than I ever dreamed I would have contributed last time around).

I also support the idea that development time shouldn't be spent on perks at this point, but some of the ideas mentioned above would be very exciting to have and could be fairly low-staff-time:

1. Billboards - What's great about billboards is that the players could help design the content making it an interactive perk like the mogul buildings, costume design and weapon design. But it could be much less time-intensive than those other perks and could be an ongoing revenue generator. Billboards could be simple for CoT staff to manage by limiting content to simple text messages, or using graphic features already in the game. Maybe have a few billboard backdrops to select from scenes already in the game; maybe allow a certain number of characters that could fit in billboard space and the characters could be designed by the player in the costume designer. All CoT staff would need to do is create a menu of options for players to choose from to load information for the billboards, and staff time to review the submitted billboard requests for appropriate content. They could limit the perk to 6 months and then sell billboard space every six months after the Kickstarter perk ran out to have it continue to be a revenue generator and an interactive/entertaining feature of the game.

2. Graffiti - CoT staff could decide where it would make sense in the city to have some graffiti and assign as a perk limited space for graffiti messages. They could offer text style options and free-form messages designed by the players, or if they want to ensure content control, the messages could even be pre-scripted options that players could choose from and have an option to add a name or something very limited to go with the pre-scripted message. It would be great if they allowed some artistic license with this perk, like allowing varying text styles/size/color, and maybe some graphics choices to allow for the graffiti to be individualized.

3. Street names, park names, plaques named after characters - all of those would be fairly low staff time and would be great perks.

4. Beta access (or any pre-launch access, like early access to the costume creator) would be a very worthwhile perk.

5. Location Lore - work with the writing team to include a character of yours in the lore somewhere is a great idea

6. A special non-combat power like a teleport to the statue once an hour - that would be really great

I hadn't thought of that. It's a good idea so I will do it now. This is just a 'copy and paste' job for right now, later I will update it into a more viewer friendly version so people can read it easier. Too exhausted to do it now.

Updated List

Swag like T-shirts, mugs, key chains and so on.

Specially designed emblem, either exclusive or not it doesn't matter to me. I really want this one cause I can't imagine playing a character without a little bomb emblem.

Specific hat design (it's kind of a running joke about hats in games)

Graffiti in a few areas that praise either the actual user, their forum name or a character they will have.

A street or park named after you.

An enhancement like item with your name on it.

Location lore that mentions a character you had previously.

A specially designed emote.

A dev inspired pet, like a little Tyche (pun intended) running along side you.

beta access

Specially designed base item, like a hologram of your founder or something.

A special non-combat power like a teleport to the statue once an hour or an NPC fan who you can summon once an hour to come praise you (your own jimmy olsen)

Reserved character name for a year (yes i know names are not going to be restricted this way but a few being restricted for a year won't hurt that much)

How about a special animation set, only available to backers, just like that costume set that's only given to backers, Or a special set of props only backers could use, or a special particle effect?

I'd like a name option to change the 'S' in my character names to '$' for every time I contributed.

I think they want to avoid

I think they want to avoid custom in game assets. I think that was a major regret of theirs the first time around. You also have to consider that someone in the costume request thread is likely to get their request (if it's a good suggestion) as someone who pays MWM for the privilege. The only difference is the guarantee.

What about stars for launch? Its a tough call on that because you effectively have to decide what the price of those is going to be today. If $50 get 500 stars today but post launch $25 gets 500stars then there are going to be a lot of people that will feel cheated. Also you have to have enough stuff for them to buy. Same thing with subscription time.

OK, how about a comic book

OK, how about a comic book rack? all you can see are a few titles (not the artwork), You can see names like, Black Falcon, Grimfox, Fireheart, etc.
the comic store is a pre-existing bldg you can enter, this will just be dressing.

The Brainbot Memorial Men's Room

A building no one can enter, it looks like a strip club, but it doesn't come out and say it. The words, "Girls Girls!" are on the outside.
there will be a Cyclops and a Lothic entrance with the words, "Physics inside."
Mobsters always seem to hang out in the parking lot.

I like the graffiti idea. "Black Falcon beat up my homies. Rooks will remember!"

Grocery store window ads/posters: "Black Falcon loves Farmer's Refried Beans. Its like Jet assist!"

As some people have mentioned

As some people have mentioned elsewhere, they would like to be able to repeat some of the level rewards from the first KS. Instead of extending their donation to get a higher tier, they would rather earn some additional lower tier items, like another trial subscription or something of that sort. Maybe those previous rewards could be listed as add-ons or something to enable people to repeat their initial donation level (or a lower level, etc).

Speaking only for myself, I

Speaking only for myself, I think KS2 rewards should be chosen that create little to no extra upfront work or cost for the devs. The best options will give players something useful, but require little more than a bit of bookkeeping work for MWM, which is pretty much inevitable anyway. That means no physical rewards, at least not beyond what they already have available in the store, and nothing "extra" that's going to take time away from designing or building the larger game.

Also, I'm poor. So my thinking tends to focus on small-ticket items, and money I'd eventually spend anyway (ie subscription costs).

Within those criteria, I think there are a number of things that can be done that might be attractive to both new backers as well as those of us who were able to get in on the first one.

Here are a few suggestions:
1. Pay in Advance for Subscription Fees.
-- This could be done either as a package, such as: "$100 gets you an extra 6 months".
-- Or it could be done as an open-ended thing: "Pay now, get that amount +10% in subscription credit for however much you donate".
I figure MWM has a better sense than I do about which of these approaches would mean less work for them in the long run.

2. Re-Do the Phoenix Add-On from KS1.
One of the KS1 perks was the Red and Yellow Phoenix Pet. They already have to build that model, so why not make a KS2 version in Blue and White? Who says there can't be an Ice Phoenix? That way, the folks who bought it in KS1 will still have their exclusive pet, but folks in KS2 can still get a cool (pun intended) little exclusive pet of their own. And for the "must-have" collectors, there would be the incentive to have both. Recoloring an existing model (I hope) wouldn't take the art team long.

3. Repeat the Instant Sidekick Add-On.
I haven't come up with a way to make this one unique between the two KS's, but I'm guessing this wouldn't take any more work to add in, and since all the sidekicks will be unique anyway, so why not?

4. Maybe, MAYBE the BFF and AGENT Add-Ons could be repeated.
These are a little more iffy, because they have to be approved and implemented in-game, so they'd certainly take up some Dev time. How much time, and whether they'd be worth the trouble, I am not in a position to know.

No one will ever get it!

Thanks but if you're going to put the "Professor Lothic" name on something obscure like this in-game it probably ought to be on something labeled more specifically like the "Anatomic Kinetics Lab". It actually might be funny to have (in the 'seedy' part of town) a run-down strip joint named "Jiggles" with a billboard that lists Lothic as a featured act. ;)

It's this KS Add-On (that's now confirmed will also be an in-game store item) that gives me hope they'll add a player customizable "costume slot" to this "instant sidekick" pet so that it could look like anything you wanted -including- a scaled down pet version of yourself. ;)

Given that the word is that all tier rewards (other than the last two) will be available, and that the kickstarter badge was part of those tier rewards, I'm assuming/hoping the original kickstarter badge will be available (and engraving your name on the Atlas Park Memorial Park wall etc.) Under those circumstances, I'm not sure it would be fair to add another badge to this one.

Can a dev confirm or comment on this?

How about pre-made NPCs for things like bases, such as a butler? Make them available in different flavors, e.g. human, robot, cybernetic dog, miniaturized giant space hamster, etc.

As with the other stuff, they'd be a KS exclusive for the first 6 to 12 months.

A lot has happened over the years, and I won't pretend to even know the current status of most of the original rewards.

Since I wasn't in on any of the big stuff (buildings, weapons, special costumes), I haven't followed those developments very closely. Easier to not get impatient that way, I knew it was going to be a long wait, regardless.

This was something I wanted so badly in CoH. I loved having my own SG base, but I kind of hated that it was always empty. I SOOoooooo wanted to just have a few technicians hanging around, or a receptionist who'd say something like "Welcome back, *charactername*" whenever I'd port in.

I figured if people walking on the street could call my characters by name, surely my base employees could spout random bits of conversation in a similar way.

This would be very cool. I seriously recall others (not just me) suggesting this idea as far back as the CoH forums. I have to think that being able to do this for a non-combat vanity pet would also allow you to do something similar for customizable henchman at some point as well. ;)

I honestly hope the perks are worth it. I have said it before but I regret not knowing about the first KS. I have no idea where I was or why I didn't come across it, but the fact that I missed it makes me want to play catch up and put some good money down towards the next one and I don't want to be presented with something miniscule like a month subscription, or 1 costume slot. I mean, I get it if those are maybe for the first tier rewards, but I would love something a bit custom. If its something people can get in the shop after then what's the point of getting it?

Alright, rested and ready to

Alright, rested and ready to update proper. (a bit anyway, let no man tell you that 14 hours in front of a computer isn't exhausting). This update will have a lot of extra information in it that following updates will not so please don't get discouraged with the length of this post.

Just to reiterate, the purpose of this thread is to offer suggestions of perks for donating to the Second Chance Fundraising (Lin Chiao Feng is there a link I could put here to direct people to more information on this type of fundraising?).

These perks are intended to not only be a draw for new contributors but also a draw for those who have contributed previously. As a result we are not going to include perks from the Kickstarter.

CONFIRMATION NEEDEDThe current word on those perks is that those who previously contributed to that Kickstarter will be eligible to increase their donation to obtain a higher tier perk from that list.
CONFIRMATION NEEDED

Here is a list of the Kickstarter rewards for reference.

For this update I am just going to list the suggestions in the order in which they were made . I would like to ask if people would like to me create subheadings to categorize suggestions in following updates? For example, a subheading of 'character specific rewards' that would include things like an exclusive emote and special pet. Also, in the future, I will highlight new suggestions for clarity sake.

Updated List of Perk Suggestions

Swag items (key chain, mug t-shirt, ect)

Backer designed hero emblem.

Specific hat design

In game graffiti referencing the backer.

A street or park named after the backer.

An enhancement like item named after the backer.

Location lore that mentions a character of the backer. (Similar to the Kickstarter 'Geocacher' perk, should it be removed?)

An exclusive Second Chance emote.

A developer inspired non-combat pet.

Beta access (most Kickstarter perks include this, repeating it would be for new backers)

25% discount to the monthly subscription cost for a period of time.

Small business or storefront named after the backer.

A single billboard for backers. Possibly one that rotates images of the backers. (Billboards are included in the Kickstarter 'Key to Titan City' perk, this is a less encompassing version of that reward)

Plaques, magazine/newspaper covers, posters ect that reference the backer.

Keep making those suggestions.

Just to be clear, I am not sure how long the period of exclusivity is with the Kickstarter rewards. It could be 1 month or 5 years. I just gave an example of time it could be. Please check and see what the time period really is.

a beggar outside of the super prison, he mutters, "Black Falcon ruined my life." (just a word balloon) he changes the hero name every few minutes. But if the hero is near, he will switch to the kick starters name. Good for multiple heroes.

Bus stop benches frequently have ads. You name here.

plaque in hospital reads, "Black Falcon, our most frequent customer."

A Dev will pretend to like you at the opening convention, You will be allowed to get him a cup of coffee.

For $1000 the dev will get YOU a cup of coffee

I don't care how much was or was not donated. Amerikatt needs a statue somewhere in the city.

a future release will be named after you. "The Black Falcon update"

Your chosen avatar will be featured on a loading screen, Rotates with other donors

I'm not sure we'd have NPCs In Bases ready for launch. Not the kind of thing to hold the game up over. Maybe later, though; they definitely sound fun. But first we'd want the mannequins.

Not yet, and probably not until we're ready to announce when the Second Chance will start.

BTW, I thought you would be editing the original post on this thread to keep it up to date, say, by tacking the list onto the end. Are you not able to edit it?

Confirmed. When we get this set up, each current Kickstarter Backer should have their current tier preset. This is basically the first outing of the cash shop, and the various Kickstarter tiers will show as "products" you can buy, with some caveats (these are to the best of my knowledge):

  • The limited tiers will show their "stock remaining". The limits will not change from the first Kickstarter.
  • The top two ($7500 and $10000) tiers will show as unavailable/sold out.
  • You can only buy one tier per order: adding a new one replaces the one in the cart.
  • The price of a tier is the difference between the price of the tier you have and the one you're getting.
  • The tiers at your current level and below will be marked unavailable.

Clarification: "Work with us to make a custom thingamajigger" rewards are almost certainly not going to be in the cash shop. Things like vanity pets are. Dev time ain't cheap. Also, the exclusivity limit for these custom items is 1 year or 4 issues (updates), whichever comes first.

Has anyone seen my mind? It was right here...

I am able to edit it. Given the fact that people go to the first new post in a thread when they click I thought this was the easiest way for people to follow the thread. If you want I will amend the OP and update that from now on.

EDIT: You know what, I will just amend the OP and include your description of how the Second Chance will relate to the original Kickstarter for clarity. I will do it tomorrow.

Yeah, until someone else replies to the thread, a new post (up to a point) is as easy to find as the OP. But once the second page starts, clicking the new post button in the "What's New" page takes you to the top of the first page, and to find the new post you need to click the "First Unread" button. After that, the OP is easier to reach.

You know when I posted this I was just making a silly little joke to add to what Cyclops said. ;)

But since you picked it up and listed it as a "real" idea for a Second Chance perk I thought about it some more and realized I'd probably throw MWM an extra $50 if they picked a very run-down dive in the "rough" part of town and tossed a half-broken neon "Jiggles" sign on it and pasted an old, tattered poster next to the door listing "Lothic" among its featured acts. I suppose if they wanted to they could easily list several people on that poster.

They wouldn't even have to bother making it a place you could actually go into (although that would obviously be awesome). Having the sign over a weather-beaten door to any random back alley dive would be cool enough. I'd want the place to look very sad and run-down like the kind of place where "dreams go to die". ;)

Here's an example of a "hole-in-the-wall" type place they could have in some forgotten alley somewhere:

It's a funny suggestion and games are full of these kinds of references to development. This is a sorta specific idea that relates mostly to a few people. A poster with a list of names might work but I am not sure that many will find this an interesting reward (maybe they will I dunno).
I'd personally be more inclined to ask the devs just put this in the game as an 'easter egg' than try and turn it into a perk. But I am just listing the suggestions regardless of my personal opinions on the matter so it's on the list.

A concept artist rendition of your character. Sure you can commission this at Deviant Art, but this guy worked on the game!
This has to be more expensive because it takes an artist's time, and he can't stop work to do a 1000 of these,

and that art goes up somewhere in a titan city art museum.

you get a mug that say's, "I'm a friend of AmeriKatt!"
A lesser donation gets you a mug that says, "I once met Amerikatt at a fundraiser."

Yeah for all we know they might have planned (or already included) some "easter egg" like this regardless. I was mostly just thinking of it as a very flimsy pretense to give MWM $50 extra bucks in "exchange" for getting something in-game. As to how many others would actually want their names associated with it I'd let the Devs play that by ear accordingly. I'd be perfectly fine with this if mine was the only name related to this or even if "Jiggles" existed in the game without any player names listed.

That was offered as an add-on (+$400) on the original Kickstarter, so no.

I've been thinking about this

I've been thinking about this the last couple of days, and it's hard to come up with ideas that don't require much developer involvement and also won't simply be in the in-game shop. For example, it might be nice to buy unlocks on some initial characters for certain aesthetics, or extra character slots, etc.; but I assume these are things we'll be able to buy with IGC. For that reason I think extra VIP subscription time or bonus IGC would be great perks.

However, if people are looking for something custom, but we also don't want to commit developer time to this before the release, then perhaps a compromise would be add-ons similar to the first KS, but for post-release updates? For example, last I heard the initial level cap will be 30 or 40, with the remaining 10 to 20 levels coming out over the first issue or two. Perhaps a perk would be to develop a mission contact, NPC, or some other piece of content for these? Alternatively, something like costume change emotes if planned for an issue or two after release; these could be exclusive but needn't be, as having some input into them would allow a player to ensure an authentic recreation of their character vision is possible in the game. (Maybe I really want a tearing-off-shreds-of-clothing, Hulk-Smash kind of costume change emote for example.)

I would love different animations for costume change. From what I recall COH had that small poof of smoke for the costume change. I would love some kind of dark smoke emerging or tendrils coming up and around your character. Or maybe a bolt of electricity exploding around you.

I'm not sure why it going into the cash shop would create an issue with suggesting something.
Many other projects do not create something original for their Kickstarter perks. As an example, I just donated to a tabletop miniature Kickstarter and just got multiple copies of each. If I waited and bought them in store I would have gotten the same miniatures with the only difference being they would cost more.

As for it taking developer time, it's true that the perks should not take up too much time of the developers. But if it's something that can be sold in the store upon games release then it would probably be a good suggestion. Exclusive items are more problematic than automatic access to paid items.
Your costume change emote is a good example of cash shop item as a perk. The game is likely to include costume change emotes and it's not unheard of to sell them in the cash shop. So those as perks would basically just skip the part where a backer would need to buy it because they already did with their donation.

Perhaps we could give a name to certain gang members? E.g. I ask to have a Rook named El Guapo, who's like any other Rook except that he's named. Maybe there could also be random graffiti with their name and every so often they can mutter stuff like, "That Darth Fez. I really hate that guy."

Because if you're going to offer something in the cash shop as a perk, then why not just provide the equivalent credit and let people decide for themselves how to spend it? That's a lot easier than giving perks for individual items.

The suggestion of a costume change emote is not about receiving it from the cash shop. It's about having a hand in developing it--essentially, the perk being to make a special request on what costume change emotes are created in order to fill your particular vision. But, for it to also be something done after release. (Which is the larger point, something similar to add-ons from the first KS, but not something devs have to worry about between now and release.)

Alright, I have an idea... you know those costume pieces that are normally only available to Arch heroes and villains like statesman's mask or Lord Recluse's back arms? How about as a perk we make those available to players, and you can never get them again, like for example I think it would be sweet to be able to put anthem's gauntlet on a player character

Considering Anthem's 'gauntlet' is a prosthetic arm? Hell to the no. Considering the rest of the lore I remember about said arm it is FAR more than just a 'costume piece.'

A cosplay costume slot?

A cosplay costume slot? Allows you to appear exactly as certain NPCs. So you'd be able to switch to a costume and appear identical to Anthem or Rottweiler, but without access to combat powers. Great for Halloween and conventions. A second reward or purchasable item would be to pay to unlock new NPC costumes. So, you pay $25 to get access to the slot and it would come with W, X, Y, and Z costumes but you could also buy new costumes A, B, and C later for a few dollars a pop. How does this differ from any other costume slot? Primarily access to unique hero only costumes. But later on you could add more NPC costume options to this slot, so people could dress up as mummies or snake people or glowly blob monsters. Things that just wouldn't work for standard character models. Because you'd only need to make the costumes work with travel powers animating should be a lot easier, or you could restrict the travel powers too.

Probably for the same reason getting cash or a gift card as gift isn't all that exciting. A specific item is a lot better than some unknown, could be anything, could be any price, could be something you don't care about, item.

I will amend the suggestion I put on the list but I doubt that a perk people do not get until an undetermined time after the games release would be all that good, both for the backers or for the devs.

At this point, I think most

At this point, I think most of the original Kickstarter stuff that was any good is now not available, so I would just ignore the Kickstarter perks and levels info entirely (as far as the Second Chance is concerned) and tell people "That ship has sailed, we're not doing any more Lethal Weapons or anything, but you can donate to the Second Chance and get some all new Second Chance stuff." That way it doesn't matter what anyone's Kickstarter perk tier was for the stuff they're donating to get now. A clean break, a new deal. You don't have to make anything you're offering now interact, at all, with anything you offered before. In some cases it could be more of the same easily-produced stuff, like VIP time or something, but you don't have to figure out how it affects anyone's current tier.

Obviously, we're having the discussion on this forum as to what that stuff would be, all I'm adding here is that the devs should just make a firm rule, and be clear about it, that they can't take any new donations for anything that would ratchet up your Kickstarter perk level status, due to time and money restrictions, and because the Second Chance is being done in an effort to accelerate the rate at which the base game can be finished, and offering a lot of that stuff would only slow them down.

Or if you do offer more Lethal Weapons etc, or tell people any Second Chance Lethal Weapons etc would definitely come in some kind of "second wave" of perk delivery, and thus definitely not by roll-out of the game, and probably not until after all the original Kickstarter Lethal Weapons are delivered first. First come, first served.

I think it's bad form to offer something for a set price, then, when someone wants to buy TWO of them, tell people "Oops, we hadn't thought of that... uh, we can't do that. New rule: one per customer." That is the equivalent of the newbie store owner putting a coupon in the paper advertising "Coupon for one free hot dog" and then being SHOCKED when some guy comes in with like 50 newspapers worth of coupons and cleans you out. That is what idiots do. If you know what you're doing, you print qualifiers and disclaimers galore on that thing. You give the coupon an expiration date, you stipulate that the coupon cannot be combined with any additional coupons, or other offers. You write "with purchase of $5 or more" on the coupon, you label it "one per customer per visit, no two visits in the same calendar day, customer must present and surrender coupon to get hot dog" in fine print, etc. In short, you should design the coupon rules such that YOU, the store owner, actually WANT people to come use the coupons as much as legally possible, within the rules, because it makes you money, ultimately, when they do. You don't print a coupon that loses you money, and you CERTAINLY don't print one that causes you to have to deliver on a promise you don't want to actually keep, given the amount of work needed to do so.

I HAVE friends, I can get one of THEM to donate for an additional set of Fashionista perks (another costume and three more Lethal Weapons) then pay them back and tell them to ask for whatever I would ask for. So if you don't think you can deliver any more of that particular reward level of perks, then don't offer it again, period.

Well we're just going to disagree on this. I don't see it having any connection to gift cards at all, because in my case (and I'm assuming in the vast majority of cases for something like this) it's not a gift. It's for me. If they start picking and choosing things from the cash shop to offer as perks, it's far more likely it will be "something [I] don't care about." I would much rather they just make credit a perk and let me decide whether I want to spend it on aesthetic unlocks, character slots, or what have you.

Somewhere in this communication the point did not make it across. I wasn't talking about "some undetermined time after the game's release." I was talking about stuff in the first major update or two. Two examples I gave were high-level content and costume change emotes, but those are just possibilities as I don't actually have any idea what content they have planned for those updates and the perk would have to be appropriate to those. The point is to provide similar add-ons to the original KS for those that would like to see specific things developed, but to be after the game's release so that they aren't slowing things down right now. Perks for after release aren't new ground anyway; it's already been established some Mogul buildings will be in zones that won't be available at release.

Something being a prosthetic arm has nothing to do with why something shouldn't be, and this is for a really way up there perk so only a few people would be able to get it in the first place.

I didn't say it was a gift, I said it had the same principles as a gift card.
Last year I got a gift card as part of my christmas bonus. It was for Home Depot. At first I thought 'cool'. So I looked around the store and found there was nothing I was interested in. I don't need tools, I don't do home repair/improvement and I don't have a garden. I ended up buying 50 bucks worth of light bulbs (probably won't even use all of them for years) and donating the other 50 of the card to charity. The store just had nothing for me.
That's the possibility of the cash shop in CoT. Without knowing what is in it, or even how much things will cost, getting a gift card (stars) isn't that exciting. There are plenty of games that have cash shops that I would never get anything from, especially when a game is first released.
Now if a perk was an item you wanted then you know up front that there is something more exciting. Say you want your 'hulk change' emote and it was a perk that will be available in the cash shop on release, well you can easily get it by backing and be pleased as punch knowing the thing you wanted is going to be there when you play.
Remember, the perks are not just to get you specifically to donate, but also to get people who have not been following the development to donate. From a new donator perspective a made up currency (stars) for a store that may or may not have items you want connected to a game that isn't released just might not have that big an appeal. Being promised something specific that they see and go 'yes I want that' is more apt to open a pocketbook.

Pyromantic wrote:

That was agreed upon in a case by case situation by the backers and devs. The perk did not stipulate it would be a delayed delivery. Regardless, I already had a 'future update' suggestion on the list, I wasn't ignoring or shooting down the suggestion.

But if it's an item that the devs know is going into the shop, then doesn't it make much more sense to offer credit and give people examples of what they can purchase with it? It solves the problem of wondering if there's something you want without limiting options.

Brainbot wrote:

That's a meaningless distinction. The entire KS is for something at some undetermined time in the future. That was probably more true with the game's release in the original KS than it is with the first couple of major updates right now.

well just saying I'm not

well just saying I'm not going into this 2nd kick starter for rewards. I'm doing it because I believe in MWM and COT.

that said, I think a generic stars amount usable in the cash shop sounds the best/easiest to do.
I also like paying my subscription fee in advance, but COT may well need that fee once the game goes live.
also a slot in the Beta test phase would be nice.

The biggest reward I can get is to play the game when it goes live.

I had a lot of fun proposing silly stuff, but I really would like to see an Amerikatt statue out there - it would just be way too fun. (maybe give exploration points for finding it). I would put it in an alley where you can hear Cats meowing. The plaque could read: In Memorial for the heroic efforts saving the cats of Titan city against the forces of ALF. Thank you Amerikatt for making this world a better place for cats and their human companions!

wait! got it. TOMBSTONES! every cemetery needs tombstones, and tombstones need names. KS2 people can go there! You guys will need a spooky cemetery anyways....no extra work.

I definitely want rewards. Ive been here a long time and would love to give money towards helping them out but securing something nice for myself.
