Fight Club: Batman vs Spiderman.

who would win and why?

Batman has his gadgets, is intelligent and resourceful.
Spiderman has super strength, super agility (enough to dodge a bullet), and Danger Sense.

neither hero is protected by a loyal staff writer out to make him unbeatable.

surprise encounter, they fight: Who would win?

Already done and pretty much my thought on it.

Even with prep time, I'd give it to Spider-Man. Batman is a normal human who seems to have the ability to create and use an Iron Man like suit, yet refuses to :p

I think Spider-Man would win.

I think Spider-Man would win. The only way Bats would have a chance is if he found out about Peter's Spider-Sense and developed a way to shield himself form it or neutralize it, and in a first-time surprise encounter it's very unlikely he would have such a gadget. Even then Spidey is frighteningly fast and strong, and is no slouch when it comes to the IQ department either, but Bats could at least be sneaky then.

As the video shows though,

As the video shows though, Bats being sneaky is weak against the spider-sense.

Well I meant if Bats manages to disrupt the Spidey Sense somehow - THEN he can try to be sneaky.

Bats is an extremely capable

Bats is an extremely capable fighter but when it comes down to it, he should loose just about any fight with a super powered hero, especially one as versatile as spidey. Spidey is faster, stronger, and no slouch in the brains department. Then there is also his years of fighting experience and the one thing bats really cannot counter...the spidey sense. This alone would make it very difficult for bats to touch spidey.

As such, my money is on peter...easy money.

Like all those times he's beaten Superman and Darkseid?

Granted, Spider-Man is faster and stronger due to his radioactive blood, but Batman has trained himself to be at the pinnacle of human physical development ... *AND* his intellect rivals that of Reed Richards! Peter Parker, for all his scientific acumen, doesn't even come close to Reed Richards-level intellect.

whiteperegrine wrote:

Fighting experience would have to go to Batman, who has fought such a wide gamut of villain types over the last 78 years, compared to Spider-Man's more limited rogue's gallery over the last 54 years. Even in their respective, more modern and updated worlds, Bruce Wayne has been training since he was 8 years old and is older and more experienced than Peter Parker.

Given sufficient time -- in the lab or in the field -- Batman would devise a way to dampen the Spidey Sense!

Besides, with Ace (the Bat-Hound) and AK cheering him on, Batman would be a shoo-in!

The versus here is a surprise

The versus here is a surprise encounter. So, Batman's time in the lab to device something to beat Spidey's spider sense isn't happening. However, that even assumes Batman would know about Spidey's spider sense.

Anytime Batman has beaten Superman was with Kryptonite. You know, that stuff that basically turns Supes into a cripple. Batman has never beaten Superman without Kryptonite. In a one on one fist fight, Batman's fists and gadgets are going to do what a gun does to Superman...nothing.

Darkseid? Never recall Batman beating Darkseid in a one on one fight.

Tony has brought up how smart Peter is, he's no slouch. Also, for a brain that rivals Reed Richards, notice he doesn't go around saving Gotham in an Iron Man suit, that would out do any of his rogue's gallery. :p

Spider-Man has over 10 years of experience on him as a hero. His strength level, ability to take damage, his agilty and reflexes are far beyond Batman.

Only time Batman wins that fight, is with bad writing.

….and here we go...

….and here we go...

1. Darksied and Superman: I would bet you dollars to donuts he had time to prepare for the fight and/or set it up. I highly doubt ANY of those fights occurred by surprise. if they did? I would chalk it up to the writing as there is no way that any normal human (even as trained as bats is) could stand up to either of those two 'toe-to-toe' and win.

2. ...and yet, with all of bruce's training he still is far below spidey in the physical department. As far as his intellect, he is a smart cookie, but Reed Richards level? I dunno...perhaps tony would be a better comparison regarding brains. Reed is on a whole other level. bats is known more for his investigative skills versus his 'crackpot/hairbrained' scientific output.

3. My intent was that spidey isn't some mook off the street with no fighting experience. He is a very capable fighter. Comparing just pure fighting skill and experience, Bruce win's (but this alone doesn't account for the other issues he has when facing off against superpowered folks).

4. Depending on the writing, given sufficient time bat's could beat time itself........ but this is all about a surprise encounter between the two and as such a moot point.

Again, we have to be careful we dont fall into the trap of favoring our heroes. If bat's can prepare for spidey and he knows about the spidey sense and how it works, he can win. But in a situation where they just happen upon one another and fight it out...ya gotta go with spidey. There are to many factors that favor spidey over bats in such a situation.

Hmmm ...! *Surprise*

Hmmm ...! *Surprise* encouhter? ((Sorry, I missed that part of the OP!)) Phase 1 of that fight would go to Spider-Man. The longer the two fought, though, the better Batman's chances of analyzing the situation and evening the odds.

I would daresay that Batman would be able to counter at least a few swings and roll with the punches. The webbing would be a bit of a sticky wicket, but I believe that Batman could contort his body in order to Houdini his way out of the bonds. Whether Spider-Man was still there when he escaped is another matter entirely.

Ace, Selina, and AK are *still* cheering for Batman!

I admit to liking Spidey more

I admit to liking Spidey more, however, it's not about liking. If the question was Spider-Man versus Superman, I'd give the fight to Superman, and I much prefer Spidey to Supes as well. :p

I would give the initial

I would give the initial round to Der Spinne, when he goes off after leaving a message for the police on the webbed-up Dark Knight. Who, having quickly determined that being seen to be successfully squirming out of the webbing would earn him a another layer of webbing, played 'possum until Spidey swung away. Then Der Fledermaus Houdinis (yes, it's a verb. Now, anyway^_^) his way out of his costume, gets his spare out of the utility belt, puts it on, and reads the note. This may make him realize Spidey thinks he's one of the good guys, and obviate the need for Round Deux. Except for showing the punk kid with arachnid powers who's in charge, that is. He may even feel an r&d Montage is warranted, after which we go straight to the action. Now the contest is, does The Bat's counter to the spider-sense work well enough to earn a win before Spidey figures out how to counter the counter?

In short, until they realize that they should be on the same team, it's an arms race and whoever has the edge in a fight wins. Over time the edge will increasingly move towards the Bat.

Wait. Where in that first

Wait. Where in that first round would Batman ever get the idea that Spider-Man has a spider sense? :p

Batman's "Iron Man suit" (aka, the Justice Buster, which might give the Hulk buster a run for its money) is only meant to be used against the Justice League and never against actual villains - that would be a waste of $900 billion dollars.

Just proof that he's not as

Just proof that he's not as smart as they want to say he is. Though I don't agree that he rivals Reed Richards as the one poster had said.

It's night. The Bats is out.

It is night. The Bats is out. He watches the city from atop a gargoyle that spits the last of the rainfall clear of the roof. Such is the just nature of a storm. Crime only rises once the storm passes. Now Batman must be the storm.

There is a quiet thud as something - someone - lands on the rooftop behind him. Hunched behind his cape, he may have a moment's drop on his adversary. Or not. In a single great sweep of his cape to conceal his center of mass, the bat seems to take off but feints instead into a wide stance secure inside the corner of the rooftop. There he sees a young man in a ground-punch landing pose. Wearing spandex. Head lolled quizzically at him.

"The courthouse not Gothic enough for you?" says the boy. Brash. The slightest hint of uncertainty in his voice, but no sign of fear apparent from his over-sharing unitard.

A flash of lightning over-exposes the pink intruder. No, over-exposed, so that means red. With a spider logo on the chest. Villain almost certainly, although some people feel the same way about bats. Batman carefully recalls the sound of spider boy's arrival. A secondary splash of displaced water long after a one-touch landing. Humans were not made to land so heavily nor so steadily. Mutant or machine?

"Mutant?" asks Batman.

"I like to think I'm a natural," smarms spider boy, before suddenly assuming a new stance that does not emphasize his crotch. "I mean, so. You're a bat? Bat-man? Oh I get it. You're one of the Bat Guys!"

Mutant then. Was that humor? Batman bristles at his own lack of humor, that was how that Riddler was always able to get to him. But spider boy also has naivete. The speed of the boy's shyness betrays his supernatural talents. Batman recalls some of his most dangerous supernatural nemeses. Would this latest villain have spider themed powers? At this point Batman guesses that Spider-man has spider sense. It makes sense, where he comes from.

The traps he'd set in the stairwell down from the roof would not help. They were intended only to prevent courthouse staff from interrupting the Batman from below. The blimp overhead he'd configured to respond to unusual energy signatures offered no solutions. He could use his belt to electrify the wet roof. There would be some collateral damage, only warranted if this mutant did not turn himself in. What else might a spider mutant be capable of? Poison? Extra limbs? Spinning webs out of his butt?

Batman does not like getting surprised. Well, Selina... he refocuses. How to defeat a spider on its own turf? Of course he has spider repellent, but any spider sees that coming. Ah, of course.

"Don't move, spider boy. I have spider repellent." Batman puts his hand on his belt.

Tingle marks appear around the spider boy's head. "You would try to spray me? 'Spider-man killed by graffiti artist'. No, not happening." The spider boy gives it a moment but the tingle marks do not go away. Spider boy's eyes widen and he lunges both wrists at Batman, encasing his entire body in webbing.

The roof lights up blue in an instant as Batman presses the button to electrify his soles. Electricity arcs between metallic rooftop installations for a few moments more before everything goes very dark.

Batman has just a little time left to savor the dark that had been his muse for so long. Somewhere out there in the blacked-out city, on a rooftop, is a Batman bound airtight and a Spider-man in need of pulmonary resuscitation. Assistance is nigh, even as the commissioner begins to ascend the stairwell to turn on the Bat Signal. Unfortunately this time the Batman was too well prepared.

See. Like that :) Perfect

See. Like that :) Perfect example of writer fanboy :)

Assumes Batman is in his special electric boots, but doesn't assume Spider-Man is always using his electric proof webbing. Or that Batman had enough juice in those boots to take out Spidey who's got an electric rogue villain or two.

Spiderman developed non

Spiderman developed non-conductive webbing but this was about his costume. Spiderman wasn't wearing his 1964 custom job (made for Electro) this time around. Too many reboots and the perils of traveling to someone else's multiverse I guess. Batman probably would have bought it if he was the visitor.

While I invented a tie, all it would have taken is a word to turn the battle either way, or even to interact like normal, sensible people (ie. not supers).

EDIT: Is it fanboy that you assume a tie means I hate Spiderman?
