I was just curious if many of you out there play Champions Online. I will preface this thread by saying that I really am not a big gamer and CoX was my first MMO. After it ended I decided to try both DCUO and CO. I recently tried CO again; however, I just can't get into it. I'm really not sure what it is. It just may be a feeling, or I'm trying to get the same excitement as CoX. Are there some big fans out there? Is there something that you find great about it that I'm just not seeing? I want something that can fill the void until CoT comes out, but I find myself turning to Paragon Chat to create a new character and just go around the maps. Lame I know. Although I did take honorable mention in the last costume contest.
If you play, please share what about it appeals to you.
I tried it also after CoX shut down, but I didn't last long. The things that bugged me were the boring combat with auto attack, the structure of the power sets, the creepy looking female avatar, and most of all the feeling that the devs seemed to find the whole concept of superheroes to be utterly silly.
Spurn all ye kindle.
Plus it seems more oriented to the cash grab. If you really want content you have to pay.
The people that I know who tried CO (right after their launch) had some measure of affinity for the Champions RPG system, but they almost all came back to CoH/V shortly after.
I look into it now and again but at this point the content is really really stale, don't remember when the last real content addition was made but from memory the only additions for the last 3-4 years have been cash-shop items lockboxes and some powers.
Combat isn't really that engaging, it doesn't have the same oomph to it that CoH had.
As was said, the power set structure is kinda strange since there are almost no synergies between power sets/groups.
No idea where the idea of a creepy female avatar came from, OP. There is no creepy female avatar. There is people who have no idea how to use the slider system, so they suck at making a character look good, or people who want to over do certain aspects of their female avatar, but there is no creepy female avatar. The slider system is harder to get used to than CoH was. Why? Because so much more!
Combat isn't fun at all in the game and only a few of the attacks actually look good.
I hated CO. I played it after COH, me and a friend only lasted a bit of time and then we abandoned it. The goofy style was a complete turn off. The movements weren't really natural and it looked like a lame kids comic adaptation. I tried it again recently and its all the same.

I think both CO and DCUO are feeling their age at this point.
R.S.O. of Phoenix Rising
The animation is pretty bad. I mean I see what they were trying to do (make it look like a comic book); however, when you start with a good costume creator, why would you want the hero looking like that after?
