Character Concept: White Tiger

Hero Registration File:

Real Name: Nathan Tan

Alias: White Tiger

Age: 19/20(?)

Powers: Manipulation of Metal, using a form of magic-infused martial arts in a manner similar to the Five Dragons. He also displays feline like agility and reflexes, and shapes small bits of metal on the end of his gloves into claws for climbing or combat purposes.

Skills: Proficiency in Wing Chun Martial Arts, training currently in the use of a bo staff, typically shaped or pulled from the environment via his powers.

Backstory: Thoughts on how to help me develop him? I know his area of operation is Lotus Hills and his origin involves the Five Dragons, but I'm drawing blanks on story hooks. :/

Nathan Tan grew up an orphan after his parents died in a car accident. Members of the 5D who witnessed the accident saw Nathan manipulate the metal to climb out of the car before it exploded and they took him under their wing. Something like that? Maybe depending on if he is now a good guy, and he never liked the violent things the 5D made him do, so he quit and is now on the run from them sleeping with one eye open. Or maybe if he's a bad guy he is currently one of their members?

Yeah he's a hero and I do

Yeah he's a hero and I do like the idea that he was once a member of the 5D or was taken in but left-I wonder if the manipulation of metal via magic Kung fu is a 5D learned trait or if it's in certain bloodlines

Well not necessarily..... If it's a learned trait his metal magic could come from his genes, like someone down the line of his family tree was a metal elemental and the stress getting into a car crash unlocked it, and 5Ds saw this, and wanted to make an enforcer out of him by teaching someone at a young age who can already use metal magic there magic to make someone who can use metal magic more than some of their own.

of course the metal part of

of course the metal part of the 5Ds could also be the powerless faction, like their the guys who are really good at using their katanas and numb chucks kind of like how when you're first introduced to the freakshow, and you fight the ones who haven't got their cybernetics or the part of the tsoo who haven't got their tattoos yet.

Yeah that's possible, though

Yeah that's possible, though I look back at the last lord Update where the Initiate of Metal used his martial arts to move the metal rather than simply shanking the ePunk guy, hence the whole magical martial arts thing.

The orphan idea is nice but I was thinking that he does have surviving family, a sick grandmother and kid aged little sister perhaps, and he joined the 5D to provide for them since they control most of Lotus Hills

In this view, the five elements are a ring, not a ladder; each element is created by (or defeated by, if that's the ring you're looking at) the next, all the way around. So each element can be viewed as equal to the others. Except "element" may not be the best translation...

I can easily see one's place in this cycle being determined by either talent (innate aptitude) or training (learned aptitude) or both. And I can see that someone who can learn several or even all of the phases might be more valued in the 5D. Perhaps mastering all five dragons is necessary for further advancement...

So, for Nathan's story, perhaps he chose to learn Metal first, or perhaps it was assigned to him. (Five Dragons Vocational Aptitude Battery?) And maybe they ordered him to do things he chose not to do...

The visual representation of the cycle is helpful, thank you Foradain.

I do think that his defection stemmed from conflicting orders and morals-his inherent ideals and idea of honor won out over giving into more crime and depravity.

Question is, is how he would go from a lightly or moderately trained gang member to a superhero?

I also imagine he chose the name White Tiger as it is the animal that 'represents' the element of metal-perhaps it comes with some spiritual significance too?

Nathan joined the 5D because he felt he had no other choice. In the beginning he helped with small crimes, theft, vandalism, and so on. He quickly rose in rank, which led to the bigger crimes. These crimes involved robbery, grand theft auto, and fraud. One thing Nathan never got used to, was the use of violence. And as Nathan began showing a "weakness" against violence, members of the 5D began threatening to harm his grandmother and his younger sister if he didn't fall in line with the rest of the gang. It all escalated one day when they tried to force Nathan to kill another member of the gang who had betrayed them. As Nathan refused, he was locked up and disciplined. Chained in a cell, he was beaten over and over sometimes to near death. Not being given food or water for days. One of the oldest members of the 5D, an ancient magician named Master Baihu saw the way they treated him, the way they tortured him, and he felt sorry for him. When no one was looking, Master Baihu would secretly teach Nathan the ancient magic of charms. Like how to gather moisture out of the air to create enough water to quench his thirst and survive. Little by little Nathan began mastering the craft. One day, a member of the 5D had become suspicious of Master Baihu after catching him returning from the cell where Nathan was being held. When he was confronted, Master Baihu fessed up to what he had been doing. The leader of the 5D ordered his death. Master Baihu fought bravely and managed to take down two of the ancient sorcerers and a few henchmen before he was fatally wounded. As he lay dying, his last act of heroism was in helping Nathan escape from the cell where he had been imprisoned by exploding the wall in his cell that led to the street. Nathan ran with all his might, never looking back. He ran straight home to his grandmother and sister, warning them that they had to leave their home or they would be in danger of being killed. Since that moment, Nathan vowed to become a hero protecting those in need and in honor of Master Baihu, he would be called White Tiger.

I was inspired to write this lol, you can take it all or some of it or none. This was still fun! :)

I like this very much-mainly however I like the inclusion of his family with is a driving force for why Nathan acts as a hero, and a mentor figure, which i feel also shaped him into turning his skills towards something more.
