Please read the current update for instructions on downloading the latest update. Players with Mac versions of the game will not be affected, but you will have a slightly longer wait for your version of the new maps. Please make a copy of your character folder before running the new update, just to make sure you don't lose any of your custom work.

It looks like we can give everyone a list of minimum specs for running City of Titans. Please keep in mind that this is 'for now' until we are able to add more graphics and other system refinements. Currently you will need :
Windows 10 or later required; no Intel integrated graphics like UHD, must have AMD or NVIDIA card or discrete chipset with 4Gb or more of VRAM
At least 16GB of main DRAM.
These stats may change as we continue to test.

To purchase your copy of the City of Titans Launcher, visit our store at https://store.missingworldsmedia.com/ A purchase of $50 or more will give you a link to download the Launcher for Windows or Mac based machines.

Ok,

Ok,

a) that was a GREAT Devmas (that was all in-game in-engine, right?)

b) I watched that glitch video five times. I almost did a spit-take the first time. Santa's gonna be sooooore in the mornin. It should be on a show called "When Physics Attack!"

I get that Santa probably needs a certain willful disregard for personal safety to make it around the world in a night, but I think he has a sleigh for that. (Remind me again, were reindeer one of the Kickstarter stretch goal tiers?) That subdivision he's flying through looks pretty sharp, though.

Best thing about the first video? The credits and logos and sound at the END of the video! So inspiring! *^_^*

Okay, that was an impressive opening shot. I'm not an expert at identifying engine elements, but my knee-jerk is that it's improved by leaps and bounds. The stairs are odd though? I'm guessing you were trying different types out at once.

Bit off-topic, but this makes me think of Marvel's omega-level mutant Santa (yes, that's cannon). Of course, no one owns the rights to Santa. Hm... you should make him turn into Krampus and back, like Jeckle and Hyde, because not enough children are afraid of Santa. If you're creative enough, you could make Santa the new clowns.

Okay, enough random. Thanks for the update!

I'm not seeing the credits or logos, only the "Happy Holidays from Missing Worlds Media", then the ads for other videos.

Mind you, what I am seeing of the video is impressive enough! But I am concerned that some people (me, for example ^_^ ) might not be seeing the whole thing.

Ah, I may have found the problem. The length of the main video on the Kickstarter page (where I'd been looking at it) ends at about 39 s. The one on the front page of this site goes on to a minute - eight.

So while I know how to see the Cool Logo Sequence, those seeing it on the Kickstarter page might not...

Thanks for the Xmas present

Thanks for the Xmas present MWM! Love the look of things, and can't wait to visit!

I don't want to make assumptions based only on effects, so I'll ask: does this mean Titan City will have dynamic weather, or is this something we are likely to see only in instances?

Thanks to Foradain for helping me see the cool logo stuff at the end that I didn't see when I went to the KS page.

Egg Nog Santa made me laugh, especially when the camera has to pan to find him flying down the street. For those of us curious about the tech, can you tell us what went wrong there without having to devote too much of your time to do so? Just wondering if it was something as simple as missing an anchor, or something like that.

Happy Holidays to MWM and all future players!

P.S. One more question: is Santa's dance mo-capped or directly animated?

Spurn all ye kindle.

I never would have known about the game title reveal and music at the end of the video if I hadn't come here. The video attached to the YouTube link doesn't have the last 30 seconds. You should definitely change that because it's almost the best part of the video and I'm sure a lot of people won't see it.

No worries. I kind of liked the version of the video that didn't come dripping with the obligatory save CoH movement slogan push that you seem to relish (in this case, a thinly veiled reference to calls to action). Think your Marketing Department can take a shot at something more original and player base inclusive? You can't blame a guy for asking. Anyway, I did enjoy the videos and keep up the good work.

Harsh, dude. "Answer the call" is so generic, it could apply to damn near every MMO in the space-time continuum. It's not like they posted a clip of Catgirl McMittenhands holding a torch in front of Paragon City Hall with the hashtag #AtlasPark33 in blinking red letters.

If the environment causes any negative status effects, you KNOW that that's exactly what some people are going to do. They'll just stop playing until it's over. Some may stop playing and just not come back.

Having the environment intermittently cause negative status effects is a Bad Idea™. Why? Because the Path Of Least Resistance is ... to stop playing.

Weather effects coupled with

Weather effects coupled with minor status effects would make people adapt. Is there snow? Not when Blazefury2.0 is on the job, burninating all the children's snowmen and melting all the hockey rinks. If anything there might be an uptick in the Taxi services. Strong directional winds could maybe slow you down a tiny bit if you are moving into it, but maybe speed you up if you are in the jet stream. Slight inconveniences can create opportunities for the player base to help out. If the world is well padded and safe for everyone it will make for a stale existence.
It doesn't have to be in effect all the time, just once in a blue moon or something. Injecting a little chaos can help (remember Rikti invasions).

But, what if I just want to

But, what if I just want to play, and not have to check out the cute Weathergirl every thirty minutes, to see if my Achilles Thumb kinda weather is playing at the local Thug-a-torium? What if I just don't want to have to worry about it? Do I take out some Umbrella Weather Insurance? Maybe Captain Underpants has to wear his thermals, this week? Maybe the villainous Heat-Wave has taken over the weather and everyone has to strip down to the girl armor, to keep from melting?

Hmm, actually, I'd rather have villainous weather-manipulators causing nightmares, instead of just being at the mercy of random weather. Maybe a mission where we trick Cold-Front into fighting Heat-Wave for control of the city ('s weather)? Both villains wipe themselves out and the heroes make them Roomates in the super-maximum free prison?

Be Well!

City of Heroes ran on a 1

City of Heroes ran on a 1 second (real time) equals 1 minute (game day) accelerated cycle, so we're assuming that City of Titans will do something similar.

Part of the reason why City of Heroes ran on such a highly accelerated time frame is that the Spawn Maps changed with the day/night cycle ... and nothing else.

So in City of Heroes, no matter what was going on, every 12 minutes (which equated to 12 hours of day/night cycle) you'd functionally get new spawns all over the map, thereby keeping the map "refreshed" for Street Sweeping. So 1 hour of game time was more like 2.5 days of day/night cycle in game.

Now ideally speaking (as far as I'm concerned) ... it would be wise for City of Titans to "break with tradition" (or precedent, if you prefer) and NOT tie the Spawn Maps to the day/night cycle. Instead, what would be the smarter play would be to tie the Spawn Maps to the current weather conditions rather than whether it is day or night right now. Why? Because day/night is a binary cycle ... it's either one or the other. Theoretically you could do things leveraging dusk and dawn as well, but those states don't last long enough, relative to the remaining day/night cycle, to be sufficiently meaningful. But current weather conditions will have more than a simple binary state of day/night. You can have Sunny and Clear, or you can have Sunny and Partly Cloudy. Or you can have Overcast with high clouds, or low clouds. You can have "windy" conditions. You can have foggy conditions, that could be anything from "Dark Astoria" levels of pea soup to something which is still foggy but visibility goes a bit further and is more like hazy mists. And then you can have precipitation. Rain. Hail. Sleet. Snow.

Now all of those weather conditions are more complex and offer a larger matrix of possibilities than just a simple (binary) day/night cycle that refreshes every 12 minutes. And let's be honest with ourselves here ... *I* want a more complex set of Spawn Maps for NPCs to Street Sweep than just a simple day/night cycle can offer. Weather offers more variables, and also makes possible things like "clearing the streets" when it rains, rather than having the same columns of pedestrians walking down the sidewalks continuously, rain OR shine. By tying the Spawn Maps to weather conditions, you make it possible for the "face" of the city to be more than just two things.

So in that respect, I wouldn't mind if the weather (randomly) changes (a little bit) every 10-12 minutes in City of Titans (and with the changing weather conditions, the NPC Spawn Maps) ... but then put the day/night cycle onto something more like 90 minutes elapsed per day/night cycle, instead of just 12 minutes.

Also agreed. That would be annoying as hell. Like having an accuracy debuff at night because you can't see as well. Environmental debuffs like this are probably a bad idea. MAYBE as part of an individual mission or special winter event map.

The closest thing to an environmental debuff that I'd want to have to deal with is ... wind direction ... and even then, that's probably more annoying than fun to have to deal with, since it would only affect some Travel Powers and not others (wind direction doesn't affect Teleportation, for example).

I understand the need to

I understand the need to assume the worst and cry foul at any and every opportunity. Open up your mind to possibilities to more than just the worst outcome.

In terms of game mechanics an ice storm could be bad for normal people. They tend to avoid the weather and ride it out in the comfort of their own home. That shouldn't deter heroes & villains, but it would impact the world around them. What if this terrible ice storm that plagued the city just merely slowed characters slightly at the onset of attempting to move (just enough to notice but in no way impact top speed or power activations)? Weather should not stop supers from going about their business, but they shouldn't necessarily be completely immune to everything either. All that is needed is small reminder that you are living in that world.

The reason I asked about the day night cycle was to roughly gauge the length of a storm (or heat wave or wind storm, etc). Given that information you can better judge how to attack the problem (or opportunity). Weather should be used as a lever for villainous intent. Sometimes that clear day means the fringe scum will only risk getting caught out in broad daylight if they are desperate.

The closest thing to an environmental debuff that I'd want to have to deal with is ... wind direction ... and even then, that's probably more annoying than fun to have to deal with, since it would only affect some Travel Powers and not others (wind direction doesn't affect Teleportation, for example).

Agreed
I'd advocate a limited impact to movement (noticeable slowing on ramp up and things of that nature but no impact on full performance), but I think the more important thing will be restricting long range visibility.
Weather as a pivot for criminal activity and window dressing is probably the most likely outcome.

Yeah, we've been talking

Yeah, we've been talking about weather effects for years and repeatedly conclude it's too much trouble.

As a 'zone' effect, or in an instance, it might be an interesting story-telling element, but applied to the whole game it would just be... bad.

It's really not a matter of 'open minds', friend.

I wouldn't mind slowing down

I wouldn't mind slowing down the day night cycle. Felt too fast in CoX. And I'd love weather. Wouldn't lead me to log off at all... would lead to me enjoying the game more.

I do like the way this sounds on paper, but I wonder if it would start to irritate me if something like foggy conditions happened "too often" (as defined by each player). I remember really thinking Dark Astoria was cool as hell....in short bursts. I didn't want to go there that often.

How often? That's the question.

An ice storm power that slows within a radius is totally cool, an unavoidable slow effect EVERYWHERE would be super annoying.

Agreed. This made me think of the Knives of Artemis. Pretty fun the first time...then I only wanted a Controller to hold them quickly before they threw down those caltrops.
