So I was wondering with the information, we have now what people are thinking their main will take up as their class in both a RP sense as well as a practical sense.
Ive been looking at the information, we had so far but was trying to think of what I could do in regards to wanting a character that works by enhancing and debuffing with i guess in exchange for having that low levels of damage.
Now in practice as we can change how our abilities look to suit us, the character would basically look like a grunt rifleman, using ranged damage potential but having maybe medical abilities but primarily marking enemies and weakening them, or giving "stims" and buffs to your comrades.
I'll probably try to make some version of Radiac, even though he was a CoX character that I made using CoX power sets in mind. So some kind of toon that shoots "radiation" blasts in some way, which I define to be "energy" and use a bright green color for the effects. What the secondary effects of the blasts will do I don't know, but it probably won't be knockback. Maybe DoT, maybe some other debuff. I like residual DoT as representing "you've beenb irradiated and are bleeding away hit points as the half life burns out", but I could see other effects as well.
I'll likely remake some of my other favorite toons from CoX later too.

While i loved my characters in City of Heroes, I had a toon called Fast Blue, martial arts scrapper with regeneration. I think her ancillary was darkness.
Another alt I had was a blaster, that was designed as a bit of a homage to fett. Using Dual Pistols and Devices though i forget his name though I do remember using jet boots on his outfit.
But for City of Titans, I want to do something different when I was playing Heroes It was because it was my father's way back then of keeping me distracted now that im 20, well I want to start from scratch ill see if i can draw him to play as it was always fun raiding with him, he had about three accounts.
One of my favorites in CoH was a character I named Thunderbird Priest, who was a healer with storm powers. I'd like to do something like that here.
He (or she?) would be either a Sentinal (Support primary and Offense Secondary) or a Partisan (Offense Primary and Support Secondary).
If a Sentinal, I think I would go with the Aftermath mastery such that my effects stack up and spread as the battle progresses. Either that or the Vindication mastery which provides bonuses for more difficult opponents. (wonder if Vindication mastery will stay in the game, because I see that as being a mandatory powerset for raids, and I'm not sure the devs want anyone to think they have to be or have a mandatory power for content)
If a Partisan, I think I would go with the Suppression mastery, with my storm powers reducing the ability of enemies to fight back.
[hr]I like to take your ideas and supersize them. This isn't criticism, it is flattery. I come with nothing but good will and a spirit of team-building. If you take what I write any other way, that is probably just because I wasn't very clear.
I'll reroll my main from CoV, closest thing that can be classified as a stalker. Then I will ruin the lives of people in PvP who want to farm and do not understand how pvp zones work. :D

I never bothered to farm too often in PvP zones but I did spend a lot of time there working on kill badges and such. I lost count of how many so called "PvPers" I fragged when they thought I was an easy kill. ;)
All I'm saying is that I was never a "care bear" who whined or QQ'd whenever any of you "mean old" PvPers tried to sucker kill me when you were too scared to actually face other dedicated PvPers. Have fun with your ganking but don't be surprised when every once in while you run into someone who'll make you run home to Mama...

You guys see pvp community the way CoH used to look at them, meaning you think we all pvpers call you pve/badgehunters/rpers 'carebears' and such. We don't, really. I think everybody enjoys aspects of the game, PvP is one of them for me. I loved CoH for it to be honest but playing on Union (EU) server the pvp was not of a big thing going on excluding organised arena nights. I loved zone pvp, Warburg, RV etc. People who used to curse and cry about getting killed in a 'PVP' zone were the ones who asked for ganking. Also, whoever makes me run to my mama will help me become better to the game, even though everybody had a veeeeeeery hard time to send me home to my mama back in CoH ;). Gotta love me stalkers. It will be good to fight against you all in CoT if it features pvp.

Oh I know all CoH PvPers weren't bad people just like all CoH badge hunters weren't good people. Heck sometimes I went to PvP zones specifically just to PvP so I can't really hate myself can I? ;)
My main point was that ganking farmers is really like the lowest, basest form of PvP. While there's technically nothing wrong with it (because the "victims" are after all in an active PvP zone) there's also generally no challenge in it and 90% of the time it's like shooting fish in a barrel. The other 10% of the time (where the fish can actually defend itself) could be fun, but usually it's a one-sided slaughter that really isn't worthy of a dedicated PvPer.
To be perfectly honest I've ganked a few farmers in my time so I've seen this scenario from both sides. I've seen it enough to know it got relatively boring and I moved on to other things. As always to each their own... *shrugs*

Ganking people who dont fight bad and repeatedly killing them is boring for all of us, but most will fight back. In Union we had a small pvp scene so we knew everyone and they all knew us. My sg was hated in all pvp zones because it was a stalker only group and we were running in packs. Most of us fought solo in the zones but when there was a, say, warburg organised night we were jumping in as a group pvping and people always complained in chat. It's such a guilty pleasure because all of these were pvpers. From typical 'stop ruining my 1v1' to 'stop ruining the fun of pvp'. Ah good times. I usually let people who want to farm nukes or turrets to do their thing if they dont fight back, unless they were a specific person I dont like, it was on then. I had such memories from Recluse's Victory where one of our members killed a turret farmer and the dude called his whole SG to fight with him and then we also jumped in. It was huge. Man I miss coH so much.

:O *shmechle freckle frack* That was Me! >:(
Just kidding. ;)
Seriously, I avoided farming nukes during the most busy hours. I always left that just before bedtime, which could be in the 1AM's. :)
Eh, most of the time I just saw people who got ganked whine/complain about it. Fighting back was apparently not much of an option for those folks. It sounds like Union (a server I never really played on) might have had people who were more willing to PvP in general, even the ones who spent any time "farming" when they got jumped.
Yeah clearly most of the gank victims I saw never called up their SGs to retaliate for a single ganking. Again it sounds like you managed to play in an relatively unique environment (for CoH at any rate) where everyone, no matter what they were doing, were more amenable to engage in serious PvP. Maybe CoT will be able to foster enough people who actually "want" to PvP like that.

Union was 'the' server for pvp in Europe, while not as big as a community as the US servers, there was a special love for pvp, from siren's call up to RV, all zones were having people. Most times people chilled in PvP zones 1v1 one another with more people watching at that very moment, then someone decides to blow up the party and you see a whole 10-15 people zone going to chaos attracting even more people. It was very special pvp and community-wise. Something that modern lobby games will never experience. And I will also never forget the arena chat on that server. What I really liked about it as a whole though was the fact that it was not purely pvp. You had to level up your character, spend time building it, learning it. You had a special connection with it and everytime I played my main stalker I always felt even better than the last time. In games nowdays the more I play the more I want to scream from boredom with their jump in/jump out systems of classes etc. There's no beauty in that.

My biggest problem with open PvP areas was the uneven matchups that result from having a span of power levels participating. I don't mind getting surprised or ambushed so long as I have a fighting chance. The surprise ambush is a justified tactic. I'm more of a sporting sort and will usually wait for the enemy to recover from a battle, but I understand if not everyone is, and I don't begrudge them that if they want to take me out during or just after I fight with something else.
I mean, I wouldn't be in the PvP area if I didn't want that to happen, right.
What I don't like is when a maxed out character takes out my mid-level character. It is not sporting at all and is actually a deterrent, such that the only people who can even think about going into the PvP area are also maxed out characters.
So the high-level gankers end up reducing their own fun because they deter up-and-coming players from enjoying the PvP, and if they don't enjoy PvP they won't stick with it until they can be competitive.
If CoT does have an open PvP area, I would like it to address the issue of uneven power levels fighting each other.

I once spent 3 Saturday mornings in a row waking up at like 7 am to go to Warburg with my Peacebringer (who was all-human all the time) so I could get the Rocketman badge without getting ganked repeatedly. He was named Capt. Supernova and his costumes were all variants on the "space guy" theme. He had a Nova costume, a ROM costume, a Marr-Vell costume, etc. So I _HAD_ to have the Rocketman badge. This was on Triumph, which was a pretty dead server overall and never really had any great amount of PvP in places like Warburg, but there seemed to always be a stalker waiting for me regardless. So I decided to go there while they were all sleeping.

Yeah for better or worse it was relatively easy to ambush people trying to get many of the badges in the CoH PvP zones because the "victims" usually had go to certain exact spots and it made it painfully simple for gankers to jump them with barely any skill whatsoever. Again I will never strictly say the gankers in those cases were "wrong" for doing that because (again) after all everyone involved were technically in PvP zones at the time but I will also continue to believe that scenarios like that represent the very lowest, basest sort of PvP that's barely even worth the honor of the name. It's basically the difference between the big game hunters of 19th century Africa and the other 19th century guys who clubbed baby seals in the Arctic - technically both of those activities are considered "hunting" but obviously one of those things takes a lot more skill and testicular fortitude than the other. I suppose from a completely RPG point of view if you wanted to "roleplay" a naughty villain then ganking players might be a very obvious expression of that but it really doesn't explain why someone supposedly playing a "hero" would ever be willing to do it. *shrugs*
In full disclosure I probably ganked maybe a dozen people like that during my time playing CoH and I will admit there was a certain amount of visceral fun that came with it. But it quickly became apparent to me that it didn't really take much skill/effort to accomplish and the only thing I was actually doing was directly pissing off another individual player just for my immediate gratification. I don't really begrudge anyone else who likes to gank people in PvP - I just decided the "fun" I got from it wasn't really all that fun once I had done it a few times.

What are your thoughts on there being mechanics in place in PvP "zones" that impose alignment shifts dependent on how you engage in PvP encounters. Such as: a) A stalker striking an unsuspecting victim from the shadows incurs a negative honor nudge to their alignment. b) An honorable toon challenges an adversary and gets an honor boost. If the adversary declines but you attack anyway - a nudge to your violence. etc...
A character that I would definitely want to recreate is my namesake "Little Red Ragnarok". Power-wise, I think she's easy to accommodate as a Gladiator with a sharp medieval weapon and any willpower/generic based defense.
There are a few ideas that, sadly, never got much of a chance to shine in CoH that I would like to try. I would also like to create an Executor (Dominator's in CoV were always a favorite for me). I know that won't be an option at launch. Maybe a director with a ranged tertiary. I would like to do this just for the challenge.
I also have a few 'class-less' concepts (again that never shined in CoH). Basically, character ideas that really revolves around the design, and their build can be anything from being a blaster or a scrapper (or whatever I feel like playing at the time).
These seem like reasonable ideas considering the alignment system CoT is using and how it might relate to character actions in PvP. I'd probably limit all PVP-oriented alignment shifts to very tiny amounts per "event" (to make it harder for multiple players to simply "farm" huge alignment shifts from each other) but enough to allow a dedicated PvPer to affect their alignments with this method over the long run.

What if the stalker is a hero? There's nothing wrong to attack from the shadows if you are supposed to save a city. Honorable fights are for the arena. So what you talk about is more about morale and right/wrong situations. I doubt putting aligment changes in a pvp zone will do any good to the game, we dont have to overwork on anything. PvP is made for pure fun and more 'real' fights with another human being. All in all, the only thing PvP should have, in my opinion, in global scale is: Unlockable cosmetic items and stat-track. I never liked progression through pvp because it will force people to play it when they are not into it. Tokens of appreciation though like outfits, badges, and stat-tracking badges would be great.

Remember that technically speaking no one will be strict "villains" or "heroes" in CoT due to the new alignment system. Admittedly I used those terms a little loosely in my previous posts so for the sake of clarity I will be more precise for the rest of this discussion.
First it'll be up to the Devs if they want to allow alignment shifting to occur due to anything that you can do that's not related to specific missions or trials. If the Devs decide that various "open zone" activities can affect a character's three alignment values then it would make sense that the concept could then also apply to activities in any PvP zone.
Secondly it also be up to the Devs to define exactly what actions constitute things that are Honorable/Dishonerable, Peaceful/Violent and Lawful/Chaotic. Sure I could see where a Stalker might deem his/her own actions to be "Honorable" but will alignment shifting criteria be based on how characters judge their own actions or will they be judged based on what the overall game world society (a.k.a. the Devs) generally decides?
Clearly there are many questions yet to be answered and it could very well come down to the Devs arbitrarily deciding that PvP zones "don't count" in terms of how your actions in them might affect your alignment values one way or the other. To be honest I didn't even really consider these ramifications myself until Nyxz mentioned it but in all fairness the question will need to be addressed by the Devs regardless.
To be clear what we're talking about here is not about a system where you can only accomplish general alignment shifting via PvP. Actually on the contrary: I would expect players were already going to be able to do things OUTSIDE of PvP to accomplish alignment shifting. What we are talking about here is the PvP analog to the things that would be possible to do outside of PvP. If anything this would potentially allow people to work on alignment shifts either while PvPing OR not PvPing.

You're right, there is nothing wrong with attacking from the shadows. There's nothing honorable about it either. Let's not confuse honorable with right/wrong. I'm sure there are planty of honorable people who are diabolically evil.
I agree. PvP should be voluntary. (unless you make an entire PvP server, but even then joining that server would have been a voluntary choice)
