Please read the current update for instructions on downloading the latest update. Players with Mac versions of the game will not be affected, but you will have a slightly longer wait for your version of the new maps. Please make a copy of your character folder before running the new update, just to make sure you don't lose any of your custom work.

It looks like we can give everyone a list of minimum specs for running City of Titans. Please keep in mind that this is 'for now' until we are able to add more graphics and other system refinements. Currently you will need :
Windows 10 or later required; no Intel integrated graphics like UHD, must have AMD or NVIDIA card or discrete chipset with 4Gb or more of VRAM
At least 16GB of main DRAM.
These stats may change as we continue to test.

To purchase your copy of the City of Titans Launcher, visit our store at https://store.missingworldsmedia.com/ A purchase of $50 or more will give you a link to download the Launcher for Windows or Mac based machines.

Chat bubbles~

Please please please have chat bubbles in this game. More and more MMO's are ignoring this and leaving everything in the chat box, and it makes the interactions feel so empty and not alive. Plus in a superhero /supervillain game chat bubbles would really enhance the feeling of living a comic book~.

And for those who don't like them, there could also be an option to turn them off. Everyone wins ^_^.

I don't know if this has been suggested before, and it probably has already been considered, but please have Chat Bubbles.

I can't make absolute

I can't make absolute promises, but I also expect them. I see no reason we would not have them.

I found it useful for team

I found it useful for team communication (assuming this was a pug without any VOIP) to have the chat bubbles up where the action was instead of solely in the dialog box. Stylizing them after word balloons was just the sprinkles on top.

I also think an optional

I also think an optional "thumbnail portraits" setting that would put speakers', well, thumbnail portraits up with word balloons coming from them would be useful to some people. Help keep straight who's talking even if the avatar of the character is off-screen or hard to make out.

Just as a FYI related to this

Just as a FYI related to this topic Elder Scrolls Online added a version of chat bubbles during one of its relatively recent patches. It's an example that shows the bubbles were deemed useful enough that they were added post-launch to a game like that.

That brings up the question.. will they be customize-able?
And by How Much and What? (will there be PINK and Yellow Text?)
ex: Dark/Translucent back of chat bubble

I would like to see additional customization, which could be triggered with a slash prefix or made default in the options, like think-bubbles or whisper-bubbles or making the edges of the bubble irregularly thick to simulate a creepy voice.

I'm all for chat bubbles. But

I'm all for chat bubbles. But only if they were guaranteed not to block my view. Targeting is already difficult enough during a fast, bloody fight. Hitting your target means victory to a ranged toon

While I'm bleeding dry
Break on through blue skies
And take it high

I'd suggest an optional mode

I'd suggest an optional mode for use in combat that pushes the bubbles all away from the center of your view, so that only the arrows telling you who's saying what are obscuring the view. Either toggling it manually before you go into combat (key bound, of course!) or automatically engaging for a few seconds when you attack or are attacked.

That, or variable opacity and click-through, though that makes it difficult to use the chat bubble to target the speaker...

I imagine - though correct me

I imagine - though correct me if I'm wrong - that tab targeting will help a lot with keeping bubbles from blocking view of your target, if only because you tab to the target regardless of whether you can see it easily. That said, some UI manipulation such that your targeted foe can be made visible wrt your character's position would probably not be remiss.

One thing to remember/work

One thing to remember/work out a solution to, is health bars.

With large mobs or strange camera angles, it can be possible to slide the health bar (the one that is above the mobs head) off the screen. Should this be "working as intended", because you still have the *targeted* health bar visible (similar to how you always have a health bar visible), or should it always try to stay on screen.

Hell, would it be possible to have it so that their health bar is instead attached to their feet instead (strange I know, but it can work) in the circumstances where the head is off screen.

The reason why I bring this up, is because like chat bubbles, there can be a time where the speaker is "off screen", and yet you still might want it visible.

I dont really need to see the floating Health bar when the target is off-screen,
since you might have the Off-screen target already targeted and the Health is already showing in the Target Window Panel. :)

But, you might be referring to something else?!? :<

Probably referring to how you

Probably referring to how you can only see a field of pelvises when you're fighting a wall of purple Rikti.
Unless you're melee and you can see even less.

I agree on the chat bubble,

I agree on the chat bubble, also I think adding mini portraits, along with being pushed away from the center during combat as an option, with color, shape, and transparency be part of the chat options window, with the disable check box, possibly a disable during combat box. Would be nice to add those bells and whistles, not for early play, but, as a finishing touch type part of the game... (hope this wasn't too confusing)

Actually not. Because if you are going to use "tech" to keep speech bubbles on the screen for chat bubbles, you might as well do the same thing for health bars of mobs that you are not necessarily targetting but still in range of attacking ie those in the group just around you.

The reason as to why I bring this up, is because in Wildstar, where you do end up fighting mobs that are MUCH larger than you... you can only see the health bar of them if you look *UP* at the mob. And this is for the mob that you are not even targeting, but still damaging (in Wildstar, most attacks are more AOE than actually single target). So being able to see its health at all times would be handy, otherwise I would be tabbing through the mobs just to find out their health.

And if I remember correctly, in City of Heroes, you could set it up so that health bars showed for ALL the enemy mobs, even when not targeted. However, it would be handy to still see the mobs of enemies, even if I have to target a friendly to heal them... damn the targetting window for showing the health of the player/mob that I have targetted, even if I want to know the health of others... shame that their head location is off the top of the screen so the game wouldn't show it, even though it will still show their chat bubbles....

I would like to think that

I would like to think that the latest game engine could do what an old one could and more. I personally expect more versatility in "small" areas of customization like this.

I haven't made my way here in

I haven't made my way here in some time simply because I got busy with some things that occupied me for about the past month, and then forgot about it, but coming back to check on the thread made me happy and thankful to see others talking about the small feature of chat bubbles. And some cool ideas like changing the opacity, style, and maybe even colors of the text.
Glad to see ideas rolling about something I thought was so simple xD. Thanks guys.

Sorry for the necro post, but

Sorry for the necro post, but I tried to do my due diligence to search the forums before I posted my own new thread and what I want to post is really a build up of this idea, so rather than creating my own thread, I'm resurrecting this one. Here goes:

I know this isn't Champions Online, which tried very hard to capture the look and feel of an actual comic book. This is CoT, and while it may be superhero themed as far as I know it is not comic-book themed. Having said that, however, I really do like the idea of speech bubbles. 3D surround sound tied to peoples moving lips would be nice too, but I'll take speech bubbles if it means not having thousands of hours of development resources devoted to voice actors.

So on the subject of speech bubbles, will there be different styles representing the tone or origin of the speaker? Can a character customize their own speech bubbles in character creation if they like?
I found this great article actually written as a guide for teachers, but which coincidentally is an excellent correlation of different styles of speech bubbles to different ways of speaking. (go past the part about Deadpoole, which while interesting is not germane to this topic)
https://teachlikeasuperheroblog.com/tag/vision/

I think we have enough RPrs, like the folks in the Graveyard Shift, who would probably relish the idea of having some sort of spooky wispish spirit soul sounding voice that can only be represented by a specific type of speech bubble. Or maybe a mechanical bot-like player would like to have some sort of electronic voicebox sounding voice. Maybe even a telepathic player can have a voice bubble that looks like a thought bubble to all that can 'hear' him or her. And so on.

Also, there is another thread here: ( http://cityoftitans.com/forum/contextual-emotes ) that is worth reading again. So not just emotes, but chat bubbles can change based on the included text as well. For example, if somoene uses an exclamation point in their chat, the speech bubble becomes a spikey shout bubble instead. A whisper would look like a whisper, but maybe only be seen by the intended recipient of the whisper. And if someone's character were disoriented, stunned or otherwise rendered incoherent, it would be awesome if their speech was garbled to reflect it, inside a distressed-style speech bubble.
I like to take your ideas and supersize them. This isn't criticism, it is flattery. I come with nothing but good will and a spirit of team-building. If you take what I write any other way, that is probably just because I wasn't very clear.

And check out the font Moustachio uses in Skin-Horse, for a more extreme, way-down-the-list, example.

Bubbles seem to be a given. Some of the effects as described would be nice but as the linked video is only a prototype we may have to wait a bit longer for those.

I'm all for chat bubbles too. Especially as they added that whole comic-book element to the game. Plus I found it easier to know who in a team I was talking to with it coming out of their mouths. Not to mention it makes for some hilarious screenshots.
