COH couldn't do it...Can we? maybe 8 feet max indoors, but outside? How about 40 or 50 feet tall?
what if I say...Please?

and If not, can we have a Giant Growth villain that shows up every now and then as a Giant Monster attack, like Giganta? instead of a random attack she could be after a specific goal like a cheating boyfriend, or a prototype at a lab. She could even be a triggered event, striding across the city trying to free her BF from protective custody in jail.

What if she was looking for

What if she was looking for the villain that stole her pet Fluffy?

Maybe she's an ordinary citizen that occasionally 'hulks-out' and becomes a giant, single-minded threat?

Be Well!

I just commented on another

I just commented on another thread why it would not be likely we'd get to be taller than maybe around 8 or 9 feet tall. Even your idea of being able to get super-tall only outdoors would still require the game to always know whether you were technically "inside" or "outside" at any give time. I know that doesn't sound hard to do but it actually would be because once again everything would need to have some kind of ability to sense and compare your current height with every bit of the environment around you. It might be doable, but I would suspect the extra processing for that would be tedious at best.

Now your idea of having an NPC that grows from "normal" size to "giant monster" size to attack us would probably be much more doable. All they would have to do is make sure the NPC stayed in a certain wide-open area of the map where they wouldn't have to worry about any kind problems with the small version of the NPC accidentally growing inside a building or somesuch. Perhaps they could even create a "special" building where the NPC first grows big. The growth could temporarily destroy that one special building but after that the giant wouldn't be allowed to "enter" any other building.

CO had a growth temporary

CO had a growth temporary power which was usuable out doors. Taking any avatar and adjusting its scale is pretty trivial. We don't need the Avatar Builder to do that. Making a Growth power in the game, at least one that works well, has other technical hurdles we have to resolve...not that we haven't thought about it or anything...

That's cool to hear CO managed to do something like that. I only played CO for a few months after it launched so I either didn't get to see that temp growth power or I just didn't remember it.

As I suspected the graphics scaling isn't the issue with this. Still it might be easier (as a first step) to let a NPC have a growth power because then you wouldn't have to worry about how to restrict/control a PC using it. Once you get the NPC growth working it might then be possible to figure out how to let players use it.

In addition to the non-combat outdoor-only giant growth power CO's Brick AT has a self-buff called Enrage (I think). It works similar to a Brute's rage bar but you can get an optional giant-growth with it that gives you a visual cue to how many stacks of enrage you have. The tops of doors only came up to my chest and I'd just clip the wall going through it if I didn't wait for it to wear off.

I can't find any screen shots of the growth in a fight. It's been a while but I seem to remember getting to be about twice as tall as other people around me.
This toon, Red Giant, is ~8ft at rest I think. The images go from max enrage to normal. He goes to 40+ using the non-combat growth power.

You two just gave me a GREAT idea. an adventure idea. The heroes enter an Alice in Wonderland scenario with a Cup cake that says, "Eat Me" and a potion that says, "Drink Me." you could grow to giant size with a temporary power...and the reward will be one or two uses that you could take with you back into Titan City.
*** and you could duke it out with the next giant monster.
