I didn't think you would top the last update but just thinking of soooo many more possibilities with this character creator is jaw-dropping. How well do animations and power fx handle the extremes like the 'stretchy' arms?

I'm super excited about the update! Especially how close you guys say you are to being done. Though along the lines of what SavageFist just said, hopefully, there will be some kind of test arena or something with super basic powers so that when we are testing out the character designer, we can also give feedback on the way different models respond to different types of powers.
Granted, we'll have enough to test out just playing with sculpting a character, but yeah. If SavageFist's comment is at all a worry, I'm sorry the fans can test that easily.

Ohhh nice, always like to get a bit more technical knowledge about how stuff is done.
Since you're also just about done with the character base model then the character creator can't be that far behind. :D Hopefully that will be out soon, and getting fairly regular updates as more assets for it are created.

Nice update, although the real meat is in the second half. I would have thought a lot of this work would have been done somewhere and be available for modification. I mean, a rigged human figure isn't exotic. Is it just the amount of scaling/adjustment we want that required so much work? Adding mesh points and anchors, etc.? I'm guessing what we're really seeing isn't so much a demo of the figure capabilities as it is presentation of the tool that will allow us mere mortals to use simple and intuitive sliders to achieve decent looking results. And I must say I like the separate sliders for size and bulk.
Speaking of that, I kind of expect some reasonable limiters on the sliders. Good to see the full capabilities, but the two arm extremes are laughably ridiculous. :) Plus, I also wonder how hard it will be to deal with costume pieces, power SFX, and animations.
All that said, I just keep getting more and more eager for all of this to go live!
This is a really good point. Especially with the idea of the stretchy and shrink-y arms. Cause if your character is melee it will be interesting to see how the fx will be handled with the wide range of possible arm/leg lengths

I loved the update though and I also am liking the momentum of the updates. I am sure that it will be difficult to maintain the caliber of the recent updates but I hope they can be almost as good cause I am getting super excited for the game and character creation. It all looks amazing and I appreciate how much you guys are showing us. Great work and I cannot wait to get my hands on the AB!!

So many exciting updates in a row! Between the lore and the mechanics, this game looks like it's going to be more than I dared let myself hope.
I expect that this update, like most, will send expectations spiraling in both directions, but, if I'm understanding things correctly, my takeaways from these last two updates are:
1) There has been a lot of hard work to build the necessary foundation for the game that MWM is going for, and that work is finally coming to fruition--hence the great tech updates!
2) We still have a ways to go to create a game that will live up to what MWM wants to make, which is what I think most of us really want the game to be.
Am I close, or did I spiral?

I want a release date too, but we can't even set a definite date internally - technical issues and all that. Two major issues I'm looking at in my end is user account authentication and hooking up our chat system. Whatever comes out will definitely be an alpha release though. Personally I hope that will be out in the next two months but that's not even close to being official or guaranteed. Are we making substantial progress? Yes. The pieces are coming together. There are things that we put off for near the release, such as updating the website (which will probably be handled by yours truly), that now have finally reached the point they should be a point of focus. That should be a serious clue as to the level of progress. I know I'm excited!

Ah, how sweet... Sarcastically I feel like this update was meant for me. I'm all about the huge/beefcake characters and seeing what you got here is awesome. Let those shoulders be a little wider/further apart to a degree and I'm more than happy with what I'm seeing. All about the angry grunting and smashing of da' girly men for me.

Yeah, if you could grab some screens of a character in the creator, fully dressed, say "Anthem" that would be marvelous. Quite pleased with this result. I do hope the UI guys have some fun with this. Side note since the chat was mentioned. I'd like to be able to design and chat. That was always something that irked me in COH, you could play the game for hours and not actually be "playing" the game. Also people could disappear into ICON for hours on end to the exasperation of their SG. Certainly I never did this...no never myself but this guy I knew...

And whatever new blacklist and ban features you have, it's still got some quirks. Right now the Discussion of Announcements category on the main forum page claims there are 2 unread posts, but the category's thread list shows all posts as read. So the banhammered posts still count as unread somehow.

Perhaps, but MWM Mods can set certain forum members Flag privileges, and if other members in the forum complain, MWM Mods can adjust accordingly. Or at least Collapse the Flagged Post (10, 20, 50 times, user can change it), so we dont have to see it right away. If any forum members do want to See it, they can just Expand the Post view. ;)

There should always be a way to flag/report a post since I don't think the forum mods will be able to keep up with all the posts in the long run, especially after launch. Kinda baffled that isn't available here.
As for removing or hiding posts, I am never in favor of automated systems since they are fairly easy to abuse.
Stupid NPC AI is a mainstay of forum moderation.

On the subject of how a character looks, will we be able to make old people? I want my Captain Viagara from CO to make an appearance in CoT!
This update is great. I'm glad to see that the time for this game's arrival is getting closer. You guys are doing a great job. So guys do you think that the ranged of customization of characters in COT will be greater than present Superhero MMOs?

One day it will be as good if not better than The Sims character customization`wise.
From what I read/heard about it and the little demos and information from the devs it looks like it will be way more customizable than present one. Two main points:
1) No specific slots with presets but rather individual clothing items that you layer yourself. That is that there is no chest slot, leg slot, head slot and so on for corresponding items you just add a shirt pant and hat instead. Also, what is available to wear under a jacket is not explicitly tied with the jacket option but you rather just add them as individual items.
Think they've said they want to get as close to how it would be done in RL as they can.
2) Pretty sure they've said they want to have something similar to APB:Reloaded for creating tattoos, clothing patterns, decorations and such. [url=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gyf5bYKgOI4]Tattoo creation example[/url].
Ok That just pumped the hype up for me. Most games I play are enjoyable but their customizations are MUCH to be desired. I really hope this will be my City of Heroes (I never played COH unfortunately)

I think at launch they will, over all, at least roughly equal the current Superhero MMO games in customization. I think 2 or 3 years post launch we will be at ground zero of customization heaven for MMO's.

That depends on whether you mean technical capacity or sheer number of pieces to work with Empyrean. Tech wise, that's a reasonable estimate. In terms of actual amounts of pieces and textures and so on, we may be a bit behind at launch. But we'll catch up, and you'll be able to do more per piece.
