When I think of a man made weapon being a Titan weapon, its usually NOT a sword or anything that was intentionally constructed to be used by anyone other than a regular human.
So whats left are things that Were NOT Initially made to Be a weapon. oil Tanker is a good example.
Hmm... I might have to Revise that thinking though, because Broken Blade, at the end, did use a Titan like weapon that Was Specifically made for him. :/

Wait, this feels like Déjà vu. Didnt we discuss this once before? :/
My my my
Everyone's so concerned about the size of their weapon now...
Lay your hands on me
While I'm bleeding dry
Break on through blue skies
And take it high
I'm not! I have a little blue pill for that! ;)
D'aww, you beat me to the draw!

So a Titan Pistol!
Got to compete with the boob thread.
I know this may sound more simple but for more of a martial artist character, how about just a staff weapon like Gambit from x-men. Also what about throwing stars?
shuriken are more of a "ninja" weapon typically, but martial artist weaponry should be doable. A bo staff, hook swords, kamas, shuriken, a jian, a butterfly sword... Any of those would be good additions for a martial-artist sort of character.
An infinite number of tries doesn't mean that any one of those tries will succeed. I could flip an infinite number of pennies an infinite number of times and, barring genuine randomness, they will never come up "Waffles".
You know this will make creating a character far more complicated, time-consuming and FUN!
I just hope you can't time out in creation.

I hope not. i know myself and some close friends spent hours getting things just right in CoH's creator. If the game kicks you out after a certain period in the creator, there's going to be a lot of backlash.

Given the first two stretch goals from the Kickstarter are Android and iOS ports of the avatar builder, I rather doubt we'll have that problem.
I can easily see someone spending a few hours on the costume, then try to launch the tutorial only to find out that their internet had gone out completely twenty minutes earlier. Save your work (if there isn't a way to save your avatar locally through the AB, I'd be very disappointed), call the internet provider if necessary, get the connection back, log in, load up what you saved... and then spend another half hour making changes you thought of while getting your connection back. ^_^

The fact that Avatar Builder will be a standalone app long before the game itself launches strongly implies we will never technically need to be "in" the game to use it even after the game officially launches.
I suspect the concept of "creating a character" will always be functionally isolated and handled by saving and loading character files via controlled methods onto a game server. Basically new characters will be "uploaded" to the server once you actually log into the game for the first time and once uploaded those "official" versions of the characters will exist on the server the same way they traditionally did back in CoH.
Remember the CoT Devs have already told us that they want to eventually give players the ability to run their own local servers, if for no other reason than to allow us to continue to play the game even if for some reason MWM ceases to exist as a company. Allowing us to "import" and "export" characters from any server (likely via the Avatar Builder) will give us more flexibility to do that.

Scissors.
Serrated scissors. Child-safe scissors. Left-handed scissors. Vanguard-style laser scissors. Titan scissors. Scissors you can only walk with. Player-tailors. Wardrobe malfunction special attacks. Incisor scissors of all sizes that sizzle. Scissors.

It would be cool to have a giant pair of scissors as a weapon.
Something like this:

Scissors that separate into two swords, for dual-wielding? Or, maybe one giant Needle and a pair of giant Shears.

That gives me an idea, what if you had scissors that could separate but could reattach magnetically(mind controlled, or whatever), so it would be like boomerang scissors :D
So while you throw it and its going around slicing people, you can still be attacking people with the one edge as seen above in Lin's pic.
They would probably have to be curved more, almost like a scimitar or sickle

You could go the modal weapons route, too. Like swords turning into whips and back.

This might be the place to start with scissors. Or scissor emotes - everyone surely has scissors handy. Scissors kata. Ribbon cutting. Garlands of people cut from folded paper. Instant-tailoring costume change.
If scissors are used like a sword that's not very scissor-y. But if there are plans to create a tailor mob they could attack with Scissors Melee, replete with vorpal moves (snicker-snack!).

With or without a chain. I'd be happy with its less cinematic version as just an interesting looking throwing spike to start with. A blast style set that used thrown projectiles would be a nice fun alternative to guns and eye lasers.
Without knowing how they intend to treat weapons in combat its hard to say just how difficult chucks would be to implement. I think the greater difficulty would be more in line with making a chuck animation that suits various attack types. They are a deception based weapon with a limited stike ability. Its not like swords that can chop, stab or slice all with very visible differences in animation.
Ideal Sockets for animation sets should come with multiple designs:
Right hand stick/sword
Left Hand stick/sword
Dual wield
Pole/Staff
Shield
Bat
Whip
Single flail/nunchuk
Double flail/nunchuk
Archer
Heavy Weapon
Right Pistol
Left Pistol
Rifle
Heavy Artillery
Shoulder Missiles
And for unarmed animation sets that only require costuming so not neccesarily "weapon" design as much as costume design but still:
Finger Claws
Wrist Blades
Chest Dishes
Helmets
Power Gloves
High Heel Blades
Wings
Crowd Control Enthusiast
Hey! any excuse to get nunchaku working!

not a new weapon...but a variation on existing weapons...weapons that are transparent to one degree or another depending on the effect. examples from CoH...the energy shields and the fire/ice titan weapons. could limit it to the most common types of weapons. this would allow for those characters who summon/create weapons out of nothing and show it is not a standard/permanent weapon. it could be explained off other ways as well...but thinkin it would be nice to see.

An Operator with Scissors-based personal defense and pet support powers whose pets are giant paper dolls! To summon the pets the Operator pulls out a sheet of paper and a pair of scissors, cuts out the paper dolls, then tosses them in front. As they leave the Operator's hand they grow from their original handheld size to their full combat size!

I'D LOVE to see a weapon like Cross Tail in Akame Ga Kill! Just think what it could do! It'd be most likely a crowd control weapon, but you can entangle a group of enemies and have ongoing damage that would eventually add up leading to killing a whole huge group of enemies with just wires. Debuffs as well as ongoing damage for long periods of time, it may not have the instant devastating damage like those powerful titan weapons or do damage like firearms can, but in the hands of a a person who specializes in crowd control along with being crafty, it would be a weapon to be feared!
That sounds a bit like a character in the anime 'Bleach', a certain Soul Reaper, Renji Abarai, had a zanpakuto named Zabimaru, and the shikai was an entendable, almost chainsaw-like toothed, whip-like weapon, when not extended, it was usable like a sword. Near the end of the series, it got the nickname of Monkey-Snake... And we shouldn't forget the chains of Spawn that had the ability to add blades to each link. I think that there might be some concern to adding this type of animation, as, there may be an outcry of copyright infringement... For one thing, animating it might be a good bit easier than a 'leather' whip, but, appearance should be unique. There are those who want to play a copyrighted character look-alike, but, imagination is always better, as, there won't be the comparison to the 'Original' ...
As far as "whip swords" goes, I don't think you should be worried. Lots of games have them - Bloodborne's threaded cane and its more brutal predecessor that I can't remember the name of, Soul Caliber's Ivy Valentine uses one, Zabimaru as you mentioned, even Guild Wars 2 has it as a sword weapon option. These are a pretty damn diverse cast, and I'm sure I missed a few - if someone wanted to bring up a lawsuit against the usage of this form of weapon, they'd first need to prove they own it, and that'd get a lot of people kicking in their teeth, legally speaking, so I wouldn't worry about it.
An infinite number of tries doesn't mean that any one of those tries will succeed. I could flip an infinite number of pennies an infinite number of times and, barring genuine randomness, they will never come up "Waffles".
Clearly the state of software technology in 2016 will allow for a simple character model standing still swinging Nunchaku one-handed in front of its body for a few seconds. But that's quite a bit different than what I believe most people would actually want in a computer game which would be more like this level of animation displayed by Bruce Lee IRL:

If you can't see how replicating even a portion of Lee's moves in current computer animation would be "cost prohibitive" to say the least then I'm not sure what else would convince you. I'm sure there will come a day where 4 years olds will be able to program their preschool AIs to create Bruce Lee style computer animation that looks perfect in a millisecond but we are still many, many years away from that.
Please try to tone down your expectations for this - MWM doesn't have the resources of a Pixar or a Blizzard. You keep asking for sky-high Lamborghini level features from a game that will be lucky to provide Ford Focus capabilities (if we're lucky) a year or more from now.

Nunchaku vs Nunchaku..... What happens when they get their nunchakus crossed?? xD
Yea, I would be extremely surprised to see nunchakus in the game, there's just not enough mainstream support for the weapon to get any assistance with the mechanics of it or assets pre made. It would be cool to have though but like Lothic said we will get what they can and are able to make and I'm sure it will be great with or without nunchakus

If this game was going to be called "City of Nunchaku" then sure I'd expect the Devs to spend the huge amount of time/effort it would take to make the nunchaku animations look good. I simply suspect that for the game we are actually going to get that this one particular feature would be a metaphorical "bridge too far" for the Devs to realistically worry about. As always maybe they could get to something as challenging/specialized as this after launch.

As cool as nunchaku would be, I'd be willing to wait until they can devote the needed time to get it looking right rather than to rush it to have it at launch. Maybe in an eventual expansion, along with chain swords and three-part staves. :)
Speaking of staves, I'd love to have a quarterstaff weapon. I have a staff-wielding character I created a couple of years ago that I'd love to be able to realize within CoT.

Tonfas for the win.
I like to take your ideas and supersize them. This isn't criticism, it is flattery. I come with nothing but good will and a spirit of team-building. If you take what I write any other way, that is probably just because I wasn't very clear.
You know, tonfas are generally a great weapon for law enforcement. They're pretty much purpose built for debilitating, painful blows that won't do lasting damage, and in terms of superheroes, they're large enough to be easily modified into some kind of tech weapon. I'd love to see them get included in CoT
An infinite number of tries doesn't mean that any one of those tries will succeed. I could flip an infinite number of pennies an infinite number of times and, barring genuine randomness, they will never come up "Waffles".
Dropping in cause VO people were discussing weapon types the last few days. The forum was spammed so I had to dig for the topics.
Quoted:
"I'm a bit late to the race, but here is some input for you:
Implemented:
-Sai
-Chained (Chains in Valiance; we'll eventually allow players to add weapons to the end of the chains)
Planned:
-Nunchaku (Yes they are possible and would use our Whip and Chains power set's physic tech)
-Gun-Blade (Bladed Gun in Valiance)
-Tentacle Whips (Tentacles in Valiance)
-Hand Cannons
Adding cesti to the list wouldn't be hard at all; will add that to the power sets to-do list.
Our shields are fully function and have a power set of their own. There are two type of shield power sets and one is for the Melee-Damage Power Group and one for the Melee-Defense-Support Power Group. The Melee-Damage shield type has many features you've referenced such as "Backhand", "Shield Punch", "Shield Charge", and "Shield Throw". The Melee-Defense-Support shield type has the player using a more less solo-friendly shield; it's a pretty massive shield and it has the ability to unfold and extended to shield many members of your team from incoming projectiles.
There is a unique element in-development called Dual Primary which allows the player to create characters that can have a mix of 2 identical power classifications to create a mixed primary power set. So if you want to use a sword and a shield, you could create a dual primary character. The Melee-Damage shield is capable of being combined in this way, whereas the Melee-Damage-Support shield type can only be used as a single, primary power set.
There will be knives and daggers added to the Claws power set's weapon customization list. You'll be able to choose properties such as clean or rusty and sharp or jagged as well. There will be lots of options for per power set weapon customizations.
The Dual Gun power set currently only features pistols but allows for the mixing and matching of various pistols. This courtesy will also be extended in the future to support dual shotguns, sub-machine guns, machine-pistols, and assault rifles. Our Systems Director even had to create unique power sets to support the other dual weapon types as the attacks are dependent on server hooks; this is the reason we don't allow characters to utilize a pistol and a sub-machine gun simultaneously. A hook determines how many times per attack, damage can be processed on the server. If we allowed you to use a pistol and a sub-machine gun, you'd see each weapon firing a single shot multiple times before the end of and animation, or you'd see the pistol fire one and then the sub-machine gun spray a few before the end of the animation. I did some tests with those combinations using both methods and they felt very odd, so we decided to maintain duality based on types.
Implemented:
- shields
- twin pistols (Dual Firearms in Valiance)
- sword
- assault rifle (Currently it's only available for my signature character but will be expanded for players soon)
- axe
- bow
Planned:
- staves
- mace
- crossbow
- throwing dagger (Blade Projection in Valiance; can be customized to shurikens, throwing knives, daggers, etc)
Experimenting:
- high tech power arm (Mimetic Weaponry in Valiance)
We've been experimenting with tech for a melee power set called Mimetic Melee for quite a while now. We've come up with some pretty cool tech that we will be showing soon. Players will be able to create constructs as part of the power set, which right now is restricted to holographic style morphing constructs, but the plan is to allow different construct styles in the future such as liquid metal, nanites, and transforming sold metal. Many of the current attacks have the characters arm or hard augmenting into large constructs and weapons. This could easily be expanded into the power set you've suggested. I've added that to the power set to-do list.
Gerald Deemer wrote:
As long as the weapons are visible when they are not in use I´m fine with anything.
Thanks for the input ZeeHero, this is exactly how it will be handled. At the moment, we've established which weapons will be visible and which weapons won't be visible, but we'll be building a very elaborate tool for the character creator to allow players to define how their weapon is stored and retrieved. For example, our current Ice Melee ability has the character draw their weapon by generating it into an empty hand as the draw animation. On a successful strike, the weapon explodes into fragments and they generate another random melee weapon during the transition back to the idle position. If the character exits the in-combat state while holding a melee weapon, the character shatters the weapon by forcibly crushing it with their hands. They then return to the idle out-of-combat stance. Players will eventually be able decide if their character shatters the weapon upon exiting the in-combat state and define where they store the weapon on their character. Maybe you never want your character to put their weapon away; that will be very much possible as well.
There will be a lot of depth to this as we don't want to force players into any specific creativity pattern"

These videos are more oriented around how to animate shield use, but they also contain some good information on how shields "ought to be used" by intelligent fighters. These two sources also have loads of videos about other medieval "stuff" that may be of interest to MWM staff animating weapons and shields.

Probably want to aim for less historic accuracy and more cinematic awesomeness. Kinda like how back sheaths for swords weren't really a thing, yet it looks cool.
As a visual medium things don't necessarily need to work right if it looks cool while doing it. Video Games have the added factor of feeling cool on top of that.
Please note I haven't watched the videos but I have seen some videos on Viking shields before and they do the whole pivot thing for deflecting blows rather than strapped to the arm taking blows we see in movies/games, yeah? Cause in my book the latter is much more visually awesome.
"Let the past die. Kill it if you have to."
I think what we need is a good mix of both, with a vast scale of realistic vs fantastical someone might want Captain America's fantastical shield slinging and someone might want a more realistic sword and shield fighting for a time displaced knight.

Don't forget that time displaced Knight's PTSD and the fact he'd die pretty quickly from disease and such (probably the main barrier to time travel if such a thing would be possible as going back or forth in time would subject you to horrible illnesses or you'd subject a populous to stuff that doesn't bother you anymore)
But more seriously choices are good, if we can have both, great. If we have to have one? Cinematic. All the way.

Some people might want 8-bit weapons, while others would vote for hyper-realism and historical accuracy.
Hmmm, 8-bit 'Hold' power, encases you in a Tetris-field...

When you've got a "cartoony" art style and low polygon counts and so on, it makes a lot of sense to have exaggerated, melodramatic animations and poses, sometimes just for the sake of simple clarity. But when you start getting into the kind of realism that a game engine like Unreal 4 is capable of, that sort of exaggerated melodrama in animations can start looking decidedly out of place and "wrong" for the setting. It's something to keep in mind when working with such a high fidelity game engine like Unreal 4.

I dunno, doing flips and spins and stuff while sword fighting looks pretty sweet regardless of graphical quality. Horribly impractical and unrealistic but looks flashy and awesome.

By all means, let's get some RWBY into CoT, but let's also understand moderation!

If any of that sort of thing looks out of place in CoT, then that means CoT failed and should have went with less realism.
The only hero i can think of known to use a sword and shield is Wonderwoman, and she's generally pretty flashy about it, although I guess you get to be when you're invincible ;)
Honestly, I think we should err on the fantastical for the superhero genre. We want to make characters that can do things in obviously superhuman ways to show their skills over endless henchmen. Frankly, realistic sword combat just isn't as fun to watch,.

Depends on what "Level" their on, Wonderwoman can get away with flashy sword and shield combat she's on a more global scale, while someone on the street level like the punisher has a less flashy movement. Someone might want to make a street level vigilante based on the knights of old, someone who wears armour that combines medieval armour and Kevlar, who has a shield made of stainless steel covered in Kevlar and a sword that might have a pistol in the hilt, and take to the streets that way. Not every super is big and flashy, and someone might not want to make somebody who's big and flashy. Let people have options here.

Realistic sword combat is swift, brutal, and deadly. That's true of most martial arts. Someone with a sword goes up against someone without such weapons and zingBoom, it's over. Which makes for boring fights, in a 'cinematic' environment. Same with guns, baring armor, a gunfight doesn't last long. Even with armor, it's usually bang-bang the guy falls down. The only reason fights last, at all, is because everybody misses!

Well in all honesty, there's no such thing as a completely realistic story, even ones based on historical events, since they try to cram story elements, something that doesn't exist in real life, into a real event. Heck real sword fighting in the past isn't what it's potrayed as in real life anywhere, not even in something like "For Honour". The Medieval era was an era where people didn't that much about hygiene and wounds could pretty septic pretty quick, to such a degree that if you got stabbed with a sword, you aren't making it back alive. Swordplay was about trying to penetrate armour by grabbing your blade and jamming it in someone's arm, but we should still have animations that feel realistic rather actually being realistic. Here's what I mean, imagine how Luke Cage fights compared to how someone like the Hulk fights. They both have the same powersets, super strength and invulnerability and the like, but they still fight differently. Hulk is all about more flashy combat, jumping in there and punching like a thousand mooks into space, while Luke Cage, doesn't, he's more calm and collected, taking his time and thinking about ways to use his strength to his advantage in different situations. He's slow and calm as apposed to big and flashy, and really both of those combat styles should be in the game. There are big and flashy supers sure but, there are more calm and slow heroes, and in all honesty they both should be in this game. Not necessarily animations that are realistic, but rather feel realistic.

I would love to see some cross related weapons, like these:

That's a good point, the Holy Warrior is a definite standard. And while we're at it, there should be some weapons with other holy or unholy symbols like a pentagram, a chaos arrow, and the like. I would even like to see the Vril symbol on some weapons or costume items.
I like to take your ideas and supersize them. This isn't criticism, it is flattery. I come with nothing but good will and a spirit of team-building. If you take what I write any other way, that is probably just because I wasn't very clear.

Oh I dunno ... I think it works pretty well when there's at least nods to realism ... ^_~

I would be very surprised to learn that our Devs AREN'T watching all the latest superhero movies ad nauseam, close ups and slow mo looking for that "perfect" pose, action sequence, emote, etc.
So much so, that some are even dreaming in Superhero.
Yeah i see no nods to realism :p She reaches far too much.
