All eyes are on City of Titans now

Decided to post this here because I know there are folks that still frequently check the forums over joining the actual Discord. And if you've been in the Official City of Titans Discord then you know that the newest arrivals of members, at this time of writing, have largely been players of some dinosaur MMO who keep getting our Discord invite links mixed up for whatever reason.

Odd tangent aside, Ship of Heroes will have officially shut its doors as of September 22, 2026; joining the other spiritual successor projects that never came into realization. Those of which being Valiance Online and Heroes and Villains. This post isn't meant to celebrate those projects' closures/sunsetting but rather highlight how its officially all eyes on City of Titans now. Even if it doesn't seem like it. For a long time, this game has been the underdog in this rat race with a lot of people, largely original Kickstarter backers, turning on this project on account of the game's development taking too long. Now unless a AA/AAA studio is to come along with its own superhero MMORPG, City of Titans might wind up launching in a market with little competition as far as the superhero genre is concerned. DCUO is largely action-focused with people making their own versions of DC heroes/villains thanks to the various themed gear sets and Champions Online has a stellar character creator but little in the way of content. Yes, there's the various City of Heroes rogue servers, but I tend to imagine the call for something "newer" and "shinier" is just unavoidable.

It’s both exciting and a little scary because essentially this means that every step CoT/MWM takes from this point onwards is going to matter greatly. While people may still lament that this game is STILL in development, the fact that quarterly updates are given with forecasts of additional plans going forward shows commitment at the very least. I guess I’m just sounding off with my thoughts here because one misstep, no matter how big or small, anywhere along the way will surely affect this game’s future player base. On top of this, I’m sure there’s already going to people ready to pick this game apart from the second they see anything resembling a picture, video, Hell, even a trailer or teaser when it finally comes time to put one of those out there. I’m not sure if this is still in the cards, but I know talks about the game still being accessible should City of Titans see its own eventual sunset no matter how soon or later it comes after launch but hopefully it sees at least a healthy 4-5 years post-launch.

Long story short, I’m just hoping this game does well as I’m excited to see it come together and nervous as to from here on out, I think the bar may be pushed a little higher for City of Titans now that Ship of Heroes has sunset and that game initially saw a bunch of people flock to that community because it seems so “likely to succeed.” So yeah, still rooting for CoT but also kind of acknowledging the ball is now in their court and whatever shots are called or taken from this point onward is going to matter greatly.
