When I played DCUO and Champions Online, one the hardest things to do in the Character creator was coming up with a cool superhero name. Many names I came up with were already taken so I spent sometimes almost an hour trying to come up with a name that was cool, wasn't taken, and didn't look like this: Example: XXQuantum5ManXX. To prevent the super naming nightmare from happening in COT, we all could work together to make up names so everyone can have a cool name for whatever kind of hero they want to be. NOTE! Don't put down a name you might want for your own character. I will present some names soon. Let the Brainstorming begin.

My wife had a similar problem with DCUO in finding an available name that she had to enlist my help. Most of the time I try to convince myself that I'm the most clever man on the internet with portmanteau names... and she's not such a fan of it, especially when she's just trying to finish making her character and play.
Actually, I believe the devs have stated we're going to be running on an @Global name system.
What that means is simple - your account has a single name attached to it (so mine might be @Halae or @HalaeNorl). Say i have a character named Fiendcaller - the game registers my character's name as Fiendcaller@Halae, though only the Fiendcaller part gets shown normally. This means that other people will be able to make "Fiendcaller" characters without having to slap diacritics, random numbers, or whatever else onto the name. There could be plenty of people using the name, and nobody would be the wiser.
It should make selecting those names a lot easier on the person doing it.
An infinite number of tries doesn't mean that any one of those tries will succeed. I could flip an infinite number of pennies an infinite number of times and, barring genuine randomness, they will never come up "Waffles".
Yes, character names only have to be unique account-wide, not server-wide.

Edit: Wait, what about spaces in names? I very much prefer Cobalt Azurean versus Cobaltazurean, but would settle for CobaltAzurean if that was allowed, or even Cobalt_Azurean in a pinch.
