Teammate History

So, I was watching the new Extra Credits three-parter about the idea of a Social Difficulty Curve, and they had a lot of ideas for designing the social aspect of games, especially for an MMO.

One thing they mentioned was the idea of having a team member log.

It would have who you teamed with, when you teamed with them, and room for notes. Maybe also what you did with them, content wise, or the ability to call up a chat log for that teaming session specifically.

It's a fairly simple idea, but it sure would make it easier to remember who that awesome Guardian you teamed with late last night was and contact them again later if you need an awesome Guardian for something, or just for a social call. The purpose of this is mainly for new players, who don't really know anyone, but play a lot of pickup teams. It'd be nice to be able to go back and check who you teamed with in what can be a fairly chaotic beginning where you're both trying to learn the game itself and trying to be a decent teammate.

I would also suggest that people watch those three episodes. Start here. It's about 25 minutes long for all three.

I agree with this line. More

I agree with this line. More than that I want a history of all the openworld PvPers I've faced off against.

I like this idea. I would

I like this idea. I would also support a star rating thing for the player's own use (not for public consumption). I have a terrible memory and the idea that I could take note of a particularly good player and perhaps even sing their praises in a forum appeals to me. Great for building those spec-built teams where everyone plays their fave AT.

I remember when Star Wars was cool...a long, long time ago...

I've had this same thought

I've had this same thought about a hundred times so I agree emphatically. Thanks for posting it. It might also be nice to be able to sort the list by who you've played with the most times or for the longest amount of time.

I always just made notes on

I always just made notes on my lil scratch pad next to my keyboard. :p

while I like the idea behind it, I think it would be a good thing to expand into...basically, not at launch but a year or two down the road, if that long.

This to me goes into the

This to me goes into the realm of "addon development" or a case of "Not for launch, but would be a nice optional feature".

And if it takes off/works well, then MWM could then roll the addon (or at least the feature) into the main version of the game. This is nothing new;

Scrolling Combat Text and Quest Helper functionality are two that spring to mind, although I am sure that a lot of other improvements were initially started by addon developers, and then Blizzard then (slowly over time) worked those into it.

4) I have seen more intelligence from an NPC AI in TR beta, than from most MMO players.

Our comp lead basically

Our comp lead basically requested the same option, an in-game journal players can use to take notes of other players, track missions played (and make notes of them), with import / export, and out of game editing options.

Well, golly gee, if there's an ingame journal for teams, missions, and import/export options already planned, then the core software for a Fishing journal will already be set up! Just add a couple lines to recognize the Fishing temp power and track the results!

(Yes, I am still advocating for Fishing! And not just as a silly emote, either! Catching different sizes and species and having a journal that tracks successes so I can swap lies with other folks who fish!)

There were a number of times

There were a number of times where I'd teamed with someone I didn't know and after the mission/TF/whatever I found myself trying to remember their name so I could more easily team with them again. I wished I'd have had even something like a log or data file that had the names I teamed with so I could perhaps copy-paste and not have to wonder if that lower-case L was actually a 1 in their name, or trying to remember if they used zeroes instead of O's and so forth.

+1.

For me, if my friends list was already full, or if i just wanted to make a personal note for my own reference... I would like to rate people.

Anything that would allow

Anything that would allow notes to be added would be a huge plus. I remember adding some people I'd teamed with to friends, and then later on I had no idea who they were in a list that just showed their name, so I ended up either just removing them or sending them a "who the heck are you"-type message.

I didn't get involved with

I didn't get involved with global channels until the last two or three years of city. Once I did it was amazing how much of a reputation I had on Infinity as a competent player and quickly became friendly with the community, who it turns out already knew me from TFs and such. I generaly used my friend list for the people I know irl, so some kind of a log of people I PUGed with would have helped me get invested in the community a whole lot faster.
