Shields!

I don't know if this issue has already been addressed...but is there any possibility of seeing shields in City of Titans? If it has been conformed that shields are totally awesome and ARE in the game, what class do you think or would you like to have shields?

Don't know much about the classes but by the sound of the names I believe that Guardians, Enforcer (maybe just bodyguards) and Stalwarts should have a shield powerset. I really do hope the game does have shields for my hero's sake and just cause shields are the greatest! Who doesn't love throwing a large hunk of metal to an enemy's face?

Whereas in CoH the devs were busy hacking away at the code to allow the old Cryptic Engine to do stuff like the Flying Disc power as a prelude to thrown-and-return attack items, the Unreal Engine allows this already. The question is at what level of prioritization it will be given and when it can be introduced into the game. That is unknown right now.

Throwing things (including shields), that are expected to return after hitting the target, could be cool.

I just hope there will also be shields for boring folks who just want to keep shields at hand to block attacks and that sort of thing, too. :)

I totally agree with you Wanders, to me shields will always be a defense set so I don't expect a whole powerset to be designed around using shields as a melee weapon. Loved how CoH gave us Shield Charge, it was a great melee attack that was so fun when there was enemy mobs. If anything, I hope Titans keeps Shield Defense but add shield throw into the mix so we'll have two melee attacks and I can die happy.

My hero was a lvl 50 MA/SD scrapper so he was punching as well as kicking fools in da faces!

Taunt+shield defense was cool

Axe Taunt+shield defense was cool enough for me to grind another tank to 50, Not that I ever needed much convincing to do that....

I like the idea of a ranged

I like the idea of a ranged/melee hybrid set (that was "assault" in COX, right?) that deals crushing damage...

give it different animations skins for shields and boomerangs (returning objects) and rocks/bricks/bottles/chairs/etc (non-returning objects) With a basic kick, punch, shoulder check, heavy backhand (something like Champions' "demolish" might ability), and a leg sweep.

that gives us a single set with a ton of different options, animation-wise (big bang for buck potential...)

Shields might actually be an animation (or even costume piece) primarily. Not to say that there would not be an equivalent of City of Hero's Shield Defense - in the mechanical concept. But shields should be avaible for at least some defensive sets, such as Super Reflexes or Willpower,
PS: This applies to shieldbashing as well.

I have seriously high hopes for this "swap out your animations" concept. I'm hoping they end up attacking your animations to your costume, even, so that you can have different "weapons" or "emanations" animated depending on your costume

(like my WWII "not Cap A" would use a gun for his ranged attacks, hanging onto his shield just for defense, while my Modern Day "not Cap A" would throw his shield for his ranged attacks and his defense...... along with getting a cool new modern shield ;P)

and that's just a shield example.... I really do have high hopes for this concept.

Unreal engine allows for alot

Unreal engine allows for alot of things, projectile effects being one of the biggest ones, trust me we'll see big improvements I think over CoX over time, in terms of effects and how things are presented. Shield combat will be cool, but i'd also like to see particle shielding like effects,speaking of shields, improved over like CO, where shields are just a graphical effect. I remember shields presented in UT99 and UT3, yeah :).

I realized something today(5/8/2014) that many MMORPG players, are not like us who enjoyed CoX. They enjoy repetitiveness and predictability, rather then unpredictability. We on the other hand enjoy unpredictability and variety.
