As of right now, there are 101 fan-made NPCs that'll be going into the game - and that's if nobody buys the BFF or Agent perks. That's a lot of characters to try and integrate into lore, and into the city. So I'm making this thread to let us coordinate some amongst ourselves; see if there are any obvious connections between the characters we're creating... or, for that matter, any obvious connections to existing game lore.
This is, of course, totally optional; I know at least some people are using this to make specific tribute characters that really shouldn't be adapted much. But I know my character, at least, has a lot of room to have her story tied into other things...
So I'll go first:
Name: Vardra
Description: A minor supervillain, in way over her head - she was just a minor cat burglar, until someone hired her to retrieve a crocodile figurine - perhaps something awaiting classification at the local museum, perhaps something in a private collection somewhere. What her employers failed to mention is that the figurine contained a fragment of the egyptian deity Apep, god of darkness and chaos. That fragment possessed her, warping her appearance and using her to go on a murderous rampage through the guards...
Which is where I'd imagine the Player Character would come in; either a hero trying to save lives, or a villain trying to take advantage of the chaos, or even someone mostly-neutral just curious what all the fuss was about.
Should be an interesting question for the alignment system: what do you do with her (once you've beaten her up enough to knock Apep out of control) - do you turn her over to the police as a dangerous criminal? Sell her to her former employers? Take her to the Order of the Arcane Sentinel to see if they can help her control her new powers (or would they just lock her up as a "dangerous manifestation of dark magic")? Help her escape from the various forces that are now after her? Just leave her there and go investigate her employers on your own?
So, possible connections to other NPCs include: who hired her, who she was stealing the figurine from, other parties interested in that same fragment of power, potentially even people she worked with or for prior to this one most recent job... stuff like that.
Edit: It's been pointed out to me that Apep was associated with snakes (and possibly dragons?) not crocodiles. I'm going to leave it as a crocodile figurine, though, and leave the question of why it's mis-matched open. Perhaps whoever made the thing was trying to be sneaky. Perhaps they were trying to invoke Sobek's power to help contain the fragment of Apep, and if you broke the thing open you'd find it was actually a crocodile-that-ate-a-snake figurine. Perhaps it was bound there by some twerp of a Greek sorcerer that neither knew nor cared about the differences between the two.
