People's thumbnail images are still constantly breaking. However, I have noticed that linked photos don't seem to have this problem, probably because images are breaking because of forum storage issues.
Most people have access, one way or another, to free online storage of personal photos/graphics that they can then set up to share (Google drive, for instance). I was able to include one such image in my signature (see below).
How hard would it be to change the user settings so you could have the option to either upload a user thumbnail or link to a graphic.
I'm sure there would be a way to make sure the graphic had the necessary size restrictions (at least, I know you can tell an image what size to display and I suspect that a maximum size could be hard-wired into the box you'd put your graphic's url)
I know there are other issues, and I know the Kickstarter and game development are the primary focus at the moment, but it's just an idea.

btw ... are we SUPPOSED to have a 2mb storage folder? I tried using it once, and the tiny image I uploaded disappeared the next day.

It's not just thumbnails, it's ANY image (including the New Posts in Forum bell image, and No New Posts in Forum bell image). Approximately 20-30% of the time, when I ask for a webpage, I get a Server Too Busy message, which can be "resolved" by simply reloading the webpage. Sometimes post threads will load in an incomplete fashion, rendering them in PLAIN TEXT ... presumably because a server function along the way didn't happen because ... Server Too Busy. This kind of spotty performance happens at ALL hours of the day and doesn't seem to have a "peak" time where it is more (or less) likely to occur.
It's almost as if the Forums here are trying to recreate the Lost Connection to Mapserver experience of City of Heroes ...

I could be wrong, but from my experience it is more than likely it is simply more server requests and database queries than the limit on the hosting for these forums. Drupal is a resource hog.
@Redlynne: So you're saying its NCSoft's fault? ;-)
Seriously, I totally understand. I just had a thought about how thumbnails might be temp fixed. I have no skills to actually HELP fix this site or I'd have volunteered my services a long time ago.

We have a major forum update coming that will resolve these issues.
