Disclaimer: I'm not a programmer, but I am a designer. I have a basic understanding of how some models and art reside with the client and some with the server. But here's my idea: How about giving an SG owner the ability to custom create their SG symbol. Maybe a XXpixels x XXpixels grid that they can point and click a 1-bit transparent grahic that can be colored and show up as a motif on their Base items?
- Maybe the SG has to reach a certain high membership level?
- I suspect it would need to be monitored/approved as inoffensive
- I recognize this isn't a launch idea by any means.
Is this even feasible? I've always wondered. The set of chest icons we had in CoX was so limited, it bothered me that I ended up using someone else's icon as my own.
Well if you buy the Iconic Kickstarter Add-On then you can design a SG symbol/emblem right now. But I suspect if they are letting people do that now then they might offer a way to do that even after the game launches. Not sure if the Devs would let people input the emblems directly into the game (because as you said they'd have to OK it first to make sure no one tried to slip something offensive into the game) but they may let us submit ideas that they would then add to the game themselves.

Yeah, with content/ IP issues I can see the devs not giving us the power to directly add icons ourselves. However, I can also see a great money making opportunity in selling the right to have a custom icon/symbol. Of course the cost would have to reflect the cost of vetting the icon, but it could still be a win-win.
