The avatar things seems to be related to forum stability. I've been seeing them come and go, but since this morning they've loaded reliably for me.

The forum server is completely separate from everything else. Right now they are working diligently on the game and the Kickstarter with little time to spare to the forums.
Once in awhile the forum forgets where your avatar is located. Just re-edit your profile and put the link back in.

This will also be grand for keeping the interest in the Kickstarter high. As I said in another thread, I know that there are people out there who are waiting to see more of MWM's work before they'll decide if they want to commit.
