Got your email, mind = blown. That really is something special, some fantastic work and i appreciate you doing that for me so much! and i love the choice of background, perfect all around Thanks so much for doing this!
If there is anyway i can return the favor let me know!
great stuff DD! your eyes are freakin awesome!
Thanks y'all! Today, I installed the trialversion of Mischief. And dear oh my, I love doodling in it! It's just awesome for sketching because the penpressure works soooo much better than in Photo Shop or Paint Shop Pro. I doodled an eye... and then a face.. played around with the tools and options and finally came up with ... Kappa Tau! - he's another of my characters from "the City".
However, I cannot make the colouring work in Mischief as I really miss the smudge tool, so saved the thing in a nice big file so I can color it in Paint Shop Pro, like I'm used to. A little sneak peak of what I've got sofar.... speaking of eyes
⚜Check my Deviant Art page for more artz!⚜
Told ya it's fun for sketching. The pen/pencil pressure works so well in Mischief it
makes me wonder if I have some setting wrong in Photoshop. Also it's good to
see Kappa Tau getting some artz. Soon your sig will be complete!
What every Costume Creator needs... V2 V3
you have definitely got "eyes" down to a science DD. looking forward to see the rest too, when completed. :)
Thanks WP! . Now... it's not finished, not even near, but here's a little more of a sneakpeak.
You just keep getting Better, DeeDee! *grin*
lookin damn good thus far!
the only suggestion I have with what is shown thus far is he looks a lil "poofy" in the chest/arms....kinda like someone is pumping air into his shirt poofing it out. I think part of the reason being he is relatively board straight across the shoulders...has no traps (trapezius...also called trapezoids). it is the area between shoulder and neck...they are typically pretty pronounced on weightlifters. by putting those in, it helps avoid the board flat shoulders as it breaks up the plane and also can help convey 'strength/power' depending on how pronounced one makes em. just a thought. :)
Hahah thanks Fireheart! It is my aim to get better .
Good eye WP! Cuz Kappie IS wearing an air filled suit to make him look extremely muscular! *giggles* No, just kidding. Haha, I was suddenly picturing that when you mentioned it.
I'm aware of his air-filled suit . Haven't done any shading or highlights on his body yet, the lines you see are smudged pencilstrokes. There's lots of work still to be done. Wasn't aware that the muscles from neck to shoulders were called traps. I don't even know the Dutch word for those hah! I promise to put them in . Thanks for the feedback, it's very much appreciated .
Actually, nearly every muscle in the body is named in Latin, therefore 'Trapezius' is correct, regardless of the local language. Anything else it might be called is just slang.
Very important muscle, helps to keep your arms from falling off. *nod-nod* Picture
Still working on Kappa Tau, but in the mean time I felt like doing something more traditional and this happend... I will get my hands on some Copic Sketch markers next week (if everything goes according to plan), so ofcourse I want to try them out, eventhough I never worked with them. I find it very scary, because in traditional art, you can mess up and not be able to fix it! *panics*. It will be a good lesson. Nevertheless I thought I'd scan the WIP, incase I mess up and want to try it digitally instead because of it . I got really spoiled with doing things digitally. The inking alone was scary! But I think I did quite alright for a noob , if I may say so myself.
Did use a ref for the pose, though the look on her face was an (happy) accident. I left out the mask on purpose. I'm gonna go with that Mike took a picture of her just before she headed out and she was like... "do you really have to do that?"
Aaaanyway, long story short, thought I'd share .
This is a slightly different face-shape than you've used previously. More compact.
Cheers Fireheart! That is correct . I wanted to try something new, away from my usual style, more comic or manga - like. So I've been looking at a LOT of David Nakayama sketches and was trying to go that way, but ended up with something in between, making her look like she's back in her (late) teens. Oh well, we were all young once . - well except for the clones, but let's not get into that .
Didn't want you to think I wasn't paying attention. *grin*
*giggles* I was never in doubt
The answer for Mike should be, "Yes. Yes, I did." ^_^
And thanks for sharing!

If you can't see an image I've posted, please let me know!
Hahaha indeed! And you're welcome! Thanks for looking! .
Speaking of sharing. As I was into sketching and finished inking Dee's sketch, I thought I'd make one of Mike too (I picked my own chars, because I'm familiar with them so don't have to spend time researching the details). I got word today that my copic sketch markers will arrive tomorrow! *cheers happily*. I'm aware I probably won't have all the colors I'll need to color either one of these (it's expensive stuff afterall), but I can get started and maybe my friend Mary has a few colors I can use on wednesday.
I shouldn't get too excited. But it went well sofar! *calms herself down*.
Anyway, here's Mike's sketch progress right up to inking.
Here's a little update on the coloring with copic sketch markers.
Must admit, t's quite fun to learn traditional coloring this way. The little brushtips of those markers are very pleasant to work with.
As you may be able to tell, I still need lots of practise... and more colors to make the blending less harsh. Also made a tiny mistake with Mike's neck, on which I accidentally used skincolor on . Fixing that is not as easy as CTRL+Z I tell you! *giggles*
Oh and also... having the right sort of paper must really help, because I'm not using that as I'm still in "try-out" mode.
All'nall, I think this went quite alright for someone who never worked with markers before .
To bad I'm not rich and was not able to buy all the colors, for now I can't go on with these *pouts*.
Luckily it's my birthday next month, so I'll know what to ask
And this is as far as I can go on Dee's coloring with all the colors I currently have. I guess I'll pick up my other project again
Dee looks good in white. ^_^
Thanks Fireheart and Foradain!
Lately I've picked up my other hobby, writing, again. Writing daily, at least 1000 words. I love it, but... I noticed (too late) that I've been doing so in bad positioning. The table I sat at, is slighty too high, which resulted in me getting some nerve issues in my right shoulder and wrist. And that makes it very uncomfortable to work with computers for long periods of time. Mind, I don't use my "gaming/drawing" computer for writing. There are too many destractions on it .
So I made a few other sketches, as I can still draw traditionally without suffering . And I've been playing with the idea of drawing Bobby's character for quite some time now (even before the bad news). I figured now would be a really good time to try and lighting up his days. The fight is really hard on him and he's being such a champion dealing with it all.
So, long story short (I do that a lot, huh...): Here's a drawing of Lady Judgement, inked 'n all. Didn't make a scan of the pencils, cuz I was in a zone . I shall color it as soon as I can.
I like it!
Only... the eye-shields... they don't appear to be the same size. I like the shape of near one best, which makes the far one seem slightly mis-shapen and small - even accounting for perspective and the fact that we wouldn't be able to see all of it, from this angle. At first, I thought the face, itself was skewed, but then I realized it was because the eye-shields visually anchor things, so well.
And it may be that I'm just not seeing things, or describing what I'm seeing very well. *shrug*
Cheers for the feedback Fireheart!
As I will be coloring this digitally, I'll have another look at proportions and such and see if I can fix 'm. Though I must admit... mirroring the image (which is a neat trick to suddenly see the things that are out of proportion), doesn't give me many alarming sights. Maybe her left eyeshield may be a tiny bit too high (or the right one too low :P). I don't know. I'll work on it when my shoulder says I can . Thanks very much!
Well, it sucks, but my budgets for new copic sketch markers does not excist, so... plan B . It doesn't look as great as copics, but, it's alright once you figured out what to and not to do. .
Aaaand finished! Even added another drawing of my never-been-able-to-play character Golden Thunder while I was waiting for more colors to arrive.
All these became mixed-media drawings as I used pencils, ink, copic sketch marker, bruynzeel viltmarkers and colored the capes (and other dark grey/black areas) with Paint Shop Pro 9 after scanning the drawings. Oh and I have smudged a little of the bruynzeel colors on Mikes armor as they were very 'stripey'.
And I'm sure Golden Thunder will have his day, soon(ish)! ^_^
Don't let the media limit your art, DeeDee! Use everything to your advantage.
Thanks F & F!
Yeah, Golden Thunder will have his way... sooner or later. Untill then.. more art!
Been working on a birthday art piece for my friend Ghost (hush hush) of his CoH character Grav Mistress aka Jessica. (she's green with blonde hair). I truly hope he'll like it, cuz he's quite picky when it comes to art.
Personally I like where this went though.
I planned on coloring this digitally, but unfortunately my cursed forsaken all-in-one printer called the quits and refuses to make contact to my computer or the WiFi. Trust me, we've tried everything by now. It means I cannot make a decent scan of it (I took a photo of it for the preview) and I only have two weeks left before his birthday!
At least I'll have a pencildrawing he can actually hold in his hands for him.
Too bad about the Scanner.
I don't know where that old line about "Guys don't make passes at girls who wear glasses" came from. It's clearly not true.
I don't know either Foradain! It's a silly assumption. I'm living proof guys DO make passes at girls with glasses .
It actually kindah makes me angry when people with perfect eyevision start wearing glasses because it's fashion... I've been bullied about it when I was a kid, being told over and over that glasses are stupid and make me ugly. And now they start wearing them and don't NEED to? And THAT"s alright? Gah!
That was my sunday-burstout. Thank you for reading . I shall go see if I can finish my Kappa Tau drawing. I may make just a portrait of it as I can't get his body to work as I .. wait that sounds wrong.. ehm.. I can't seem to make his body proportions anatomicly correct. Yes that's it.
Enjoy this first day of the week everyone!
If everything goes according to plan, I will be able to scan again today! Instead of an all-in-one machine (many have now broken down on me too often in a too short a time) I desided I wanted a GOOD scanner. One that scans in a resolution I can draw in if I wanted, without having to enlarge the scan 200% and spend a lot of time in solving the pixeled lines.
And since I've resently received my paycheck for a job I did a while back, I went for it and bought a HP Scanjet 200 .
Saving up for a printer (not an all-in-one one) now, so no more cheap stuff that breaks down fast and because of that, isn't that cheap in the end at all.
really grooving on everything you've posted up DD! lurve the pencil color-work...while digital coloring can make pics really pop there is something I have always enjoyed more regarding colored pencils. :)
...and gotta say, the gifty piece looks freakin awesome and honestly I think it stands on its own just in pencils as ya have it. :)
Thanks WP! I do like the pencils myself and I shall give that too him aswell. I'm sure he'll appreciate that.
As for the digital one, I finished it and will have it put on canvas as I know he has a little collection of his character on canvas already. And since he just bought a house with lots of wallspace, I figured that would go well with the rest of 'm.
Here's the finished piece. (keep it a secret though, he is not to find out till the end of november ) You will see I kept all the pencil lines in there.
Don't worry, he won't find out from us!
mum's the word!
The present was a succes! He loved it!
Now, normally, I don't mention my birthday, but I had such a lovely one yesterday, filled with LOADS of cake (of which half I made myself), a house filled with family and friends who gave awesome presents and still two more to come my way! - I have no clue what they are either !
There was a coconut based basket (filled with soap, lotion and that kind of stuff), candels, plants (even a palm tree!!), chocolate bars and money, which I have spent on a soft, fluffy, warm, pink and white fleece plait and tomorrow I'll be buying my very own licenced copy of the new, incredibly impressive drawingprogram Mischief! - DeeDee=very pleased ineed -
I hope all of your presents give you full satisfaction.
I can't wait to see what sort of Mischieftm you get into!
Thanks Fireheart and Foradain! Mischief is bringing me quite some joy!
Here's my "getting-to-know-Mischief" piece.
Happy upcoming Winterseason everyone!
Aww, so cute! *grin*
He's a Mis..chief Owl...
(got stars in his eyes!)
another trip around the sun? CHECK! Congorats! (belated!)
Thanks once again! I just finished the Kappa Tau drawing. Made a portrait out of it, didn't feel like getting into the whole anatomy of his body and basically I just wanted to use it for the banner below .
Hah, now I see a few little details I still have to work on, cleaning the endproduct up. Will do that, but not now cuz I have to make dinner first. Anyway I'll update the image once I've done the tiny fixes
Edit: Image updated
Quietly dramatic hair.
I'm very sad. I have been very sad since yesterday, eversince I heard the bad news that my car SuperSAM aka my Supermustuki, must be leaving my side, to go to car-valhalla. On January the 4th he would become a 20 year old car and he was so close to get to the 200.000 km (124.274 miles) on the counter . I am going to miss my buddy on wheels. He's been so loyal and has never left me stranded. But with this year's obligatory check up (MOT?), he failed several tests so severely he was declared a danger on the street. My hero has gone rogue, I could say *grins with a sad look in her eyes*.
But as Christmas has arrived and, with that, several Christmas dinners that take place an hour drive (with car) from where we live (trust me, buses are no option in this case, and there are no trains in this part or the country), we had to find a replacement.
Today SuperSAM got introduced and I'm sure he passed on the torch with approval.
My dear SuperSAM, I will always remember you and your loyalty. All the fun I had driving around the country with you. You were there for me when I needed you the most and I'm forever grateful.
Sad to hear of the Super-one's retirement, but now you can look forward to a New trusty side-kick for your travels.
What amazing powers might hide behind the secret identity of Teal?
The power of Fahrvergnügen? ^_^
My condolences on the passing of your trusty steed. May your new vehicle give you many megameters of faithful service!
Thank you F&F . Eventhough "the German" is registred in my name, I consider the car to be my BF's as it's more his taste than it ever will be mine. I'm not allowed to customize anyway... and I cannot make anything my own if I'm not allowed to customize! .The car drives well. I joke now that we can actually have a conversation while driving now. (with the exhaustpipes underneath SuperSAM, it was near impossible *giggles* - I kindah liked it that way)Anyway onward as we have no choice (YET)!
Personally I had a rough 2015 so far, but it's getting better each day.
This is what I've finished yesterday! A TARDIS hat! Yeah, no drawing, but still.. crafts!
It's bigger on the inside, to accommodate your imagination and talent! *grin*
We already passed halfway February, my word, time flies! Just wanted to let you lot know, I'm still around! Drawing is on a low level as I'm working hard to finish my book. (I've got my own deadline set on May 1st.) Here and there I do a sketch, and not so long ago I actually finished a digital portrait, but it's not CoX related, so I didn't share. It's on my DA page though.
I am keeping an eye out for updates on the Media Sharing part of the forums. Lurking, so to say .
I hope you're all well! *hugs and wave*
It's preview time!
The rumors were true! (what rumors? ) I've been working on a request (yes, CoX related!) I started a little while back, and promised a whole lot sooner. I'm afraid this is the only preview though, cuz I'm not sure it was supposed to be a secret or not (which is why I'm not mentioning the requester or the character name here ).
Anyway, keep drawing... or loving art.. and most of all keep fighting! Our city is being rebuild and it won't be long now untill we can re-enter!
hey there DD!
...intrigued? why, yes....yes, I am.
The eyes have it! *grin*
I'm almost done with this guy! Darkened the eyes some more, it looks better with his hair. Going to add some skin detailing now and... well yes.. sunglasses (just wanted to make a version without, because won't pass on the opportunity to draw eyes ).
looking good! :)
Yay! More DeeDee Arts!
Meet Draven! Character of Ysangard
He usually wears sunglasses, so I made a version of that aswell.
I hope you like him (or atleast the drawing(s) )
(That's about all the French I'm willing to commit ^_^)
Well well, look who I bumped into this afternoon! Selfie time!
That was fun!
It sure was
Now, I've been doing some requests lately (still working on several (yes, CoX related) projects actually, but I wanted to throw in one of my own aswell. Unfortunatly I won't be able to work on either one of them because I'll be away next week and won't have my pc with me *looks anxious*. But here's a look at Mike and DeeDee... mind, in a very early stage. So early, I quickly gave them shirts to wear, because it would be quite inappropriate otherwise
Still unsure if I'll keep them "unmasked" or not. Maybe I'll do both
I vote both! :)
Both sounds good to me!
*bangs gavel* motion carries!
Thanks! I have decided I will go for both Yay for layers!
Here's one more update (this is with masks)... I wonder what they're talking about... or who.I may be able to work a little more on it this week (as it's still in early stage and there aren't a lot of memoryeating layers yet), depending on the state of the laptop. I will find out when I find out hehe. I bought the thing to play CoH on while I was somewhere else then at home (and also, so I could work on my writing ). It's considered an oldie now and I will have to upgrade the drivers and stuff, but I'll do my best to get it working. It won't be able to do as well as my pc ofcourse, but when emergency strikes, atleast I won't be completely without the option of creating digital art!
*hugs and waves*
I note the 'summer weight' costume on Mike. Much easier to draw, yet cool and stylish just the same. He can save the heavy armor for those more serious, lava and abrasion situations, when he's not feeling so invulnerable.
As for those shirtless moments... well, maybe you don't need to publish those. Unless Sapphic Neko talks you into it, in which case it's... totally voluntary, right? *grin*
Yeah, I figured as it's summer, he may want to trade part of his suit to something less warm. Dee may wear a ventilating suit, but Mike's is not that fancy .
I noticed I was reluctant to draw his suit. It's a complicated one to draw. A challange every time, due to many details that have be quite right to make it look right. I've done it a few times now and I can understand why other artists choose to draw DeeDee instead heheh. So.. summersuit it is! And indeed, as long as the situations are not too serious, he'll be just fine.
I won't publish shirtless moments without the approval of both characters...and they don't approve , though Neko has deffinitely tried to pursuade Dee *giggles*.
It's interesting to see how a sketch can turn out so different when being colored! I can't show you a preview atm due to slow laptop, but when I'm done I'll put up a gif for those who like seeing the progress. (I do too )
I'm almost done with my own request! It's just up to detailing Dee's mask and figure out a background now. After that it's back to another request I was working on earlier. Couldn't work it it during my "vacation" as it has some glowing things going on and the slow laptop couldn't handle that. But it could handle basic coloring and shading of this drawing.
Here's a sneakpeak in 100% size of Mike:
A GIF animation of the WIP stages And to finish it off, Dee at 100%, because I shared Mike aswell
And I see DD has a new avatar of it, as well. ^_^
Erm, I keep looking at this final DeeDee face and... it just seems a tad off. It seems too narrow and her nose has no shape? Mike's face has a perfectly good nose, well defined, clear shape to it. DeeDee's face, in this image, seems slightly... blurred, like it wasn't made in the same resolution and got disproportioned when merged with the rest of the image.
It... itches, in my mind, because it's so very good, yet not quite Right?
ya know...I can't it enough. but daaaamnn...you have got eyes down to a friggin science. me, jealous? yes....yes I am. heh
@Foradain, I did! I can't seem to stick with one avatar *giggles*
@Fireheart, Cute freckles *grins*. I actually copied the ones I have on my face, figuring Dee is me and I am Dee . So.. thanks! Iknow what you mean with the nose. It's been bugging me too. But since I've been working on it for day after day, I can't seem to fix it. So I decided to let it go for now and pick it back up later, after a new study of noses *giggles*. First I'll finish "the other request" and then I'll give Dee a nosejob . Thanks for the feedback! Much appreciated!
@WP. Teehee, thanks! Eyes are probably my most favorite part to draw. I actually made a tutorial about that once... it's a long one, lots of reading, but with images aswell . I put it up in the Tips and Tricks thread a while back: http://cityoftitans.com/comment/35549#comment-35549
It looks like I'm on a roll I just finished a second request for Ysangard. Hope you like it buddy!
Meet Sandmaster Sahara Conor:
As I was on a role (I think I'm done now... at least for today ), I thought I'd have a go at Dee's nose. Before and after: Much better, yes?
New final images coming up!
I see what you mean. I was watching the animated gif and you could actually see it shift....especially on one of the last frames...the nose shifted a good bit to the left and "blurred" out a lil. the new version has better definition....and looks good! :)
Yup, I saw the same shift in the animation. The new and improved nose is much better, yes. It's a good face. *grin*
sooo...looking at the two pics (masked and unmasked. did you darken up the masked version (or lighten up the unmasked version)? reason I ask is that the masked version looks slightly darker, can see the difference, especially in their hair between the two pics. just curious. :)
haha! Keen eye! Yes it is. It's accidental too. I seem to have saved over the orinal version when I was done. Sometimes I use Photoshop to work a little more with the color/contrasts 'n stuff. That's what I did.
And then I had to go back and fix Dee's nose when I realised what I had done .
So yeah, the one with the mask is darker indeed.
A @Foradain 's Golderod update on the sketch. How is this?
Looks good, and I'm sure these boots are much more comfortable than the ones in the first preview. ^_^
I'm going to see if I can use Paint to show how the rings on the staff should look, to get around the language barrier. Wish me luck!
(I only have your word that their is a language barrier, DeeDee. Your written English is as good as most that I see. Certainly far better than my skill in the handful of languages I've studied.)
Hopefully you can see the lime green I looped around the two inside curves of the enlarged view of the endcap. Those curves make the endcap and the rings look more like the ones in the ad than I was wanting. They should be removed, and the outside curves connected, to make it look like a single wide ring, and not two narrow rings.
The first ring below her hand should be moved up to the balance point of the staff, with the other three rings between that one and the endcap spread out evenly. The one next to her hand might be too high, the even spacing should continue.
Arcane runes on the rings are optional; they're mostly misdirection, anyway. ^_^
