Feartopia - Chapter 4/4

Three years after the Tribes incident

Feartopia after three years of gaining conviction to what he wants to do he contacts the one man he can trust with this information. His childhood friend and brother at arms. Brock Venrick

After contacting Brock, Feartopia drove to the location they decided to meet. An old graveyard that rarely sees visitors.
Feartopia: Over here!
Brock: Holy s**t! Derick? Derick Tesley? Is that you man?
Feartopia: Derick is fine, trying to keep a low profile. For...future plans.
Brock: What happened? We did that one mission and you were just, poof, gone. Thought you died.
Feartopia: No. I did some...things...to make it out. Learned something interesting about myself.
Brock: Can you tell me what happened there? I got out of there as soon as everyone started dying left and right. Was utterly terrified
Feartopia: I would rather not tell you everything. I just...gah, at the time it all just seemed like the best solution.
Brock: Hey, if you don't want to. That's fine. When you are ready to talk about it I'm all ears. Just kinda curious how you not only escaped. But killed or severely wounded almost all of them. We returned to try to initiate a rescue mission but only needed to kill, like what? Ten of them? We weren't even the slightest bit afraid either. Guess the same tricks don't work twice!
Feartopia: That's not why.
Feartopia takes two vials out of his pocket while looking around in a non-obvious way to make sure no ones looking.
Feartopia: They used some of these to cause fear effects. Well the left one more than the right for us
Brock: Beetles? How?
Feartopia: Don't know exactly how it was getting into our system. I can only guess it was the fog. You see, if you dissect these things, you can extract the juice that causes a fear effect. Curious how they infused the extracts into the fog, might want to look into that.
Brock: Guessing you have something to do with the fog not being there when we got there, thanks for that. But, yeah. You didn't answer me. You took them all down, guessing you don't want to give that information away either?
Feartopia: Huh? Oh, no would rather not, no. Maybe some day.
Brock: Well glad you are alive. We need our top tech specialist back on our team. Just glad my robotic arm didn't break, don't trust any of the new recruits to take a crack at this thing.
Brock emphasis this by pulling back his jacket's sleeves to show the metallic shine of his arm.
Feartopia: Yeah...
Brock: Hey Derick, you look very distracted. Almost as if you're only half here. What's up?
Feartopia: Just. Been thinking. Heh. Wouldn't it be easier if everyone was too scared to do anything?
Brock: What? I mean, sure. Sudden thing to just, suddenly say.
Feartopia: Well think about all of the horrible stuff we have been paid to do over the years. There was that one time where we were told to kill a family and take the mothers head to some random guy directly, before killing that guy too. Not saying I feel bad. Lost a conscious awhile ago
Brock: Yeah, comes with the job.
Feartopia: Yeah, but anyways. What I'm saying is if that family was just to afraid to anger that man. They wouldn't have died. Also what if that tribe was to afraid to attack that populace. They wouldn't be dead and neither would almost all of our guys. Some of whom, I considered friends.
Brock: I guess...
Feartopia: If everyone was just afraid. Too afraid to get into any conflict with anyone. We wouldn't need to be hired to do any of the horrible stuff we did. Instead we would be hired to protect paranoid civilians at worst.
Brock: World without conflict. That sounds like a utopia. But it can't happen.
Feartopia: I'm not so sure about that friend. These things. I've been looking at a little method involving mysticism that may just create that utopia.
Brock: You're not saying...
Feartopia: Yes...I will make everyone be to afraid to commit any atrocities. Or any conflict that may lead to them. I'm sure they will hate me, but they just don't know. They will thank me when the world without wars exists.
Brock: Oh my-do you hear yourself right now?! I just don't know. I mean, I kinda see where you are coming from. But there has to be another way besides world wide fear to create this little vision you have!
Feartopia: You have seen first hand how powerful pure terror can be Brock. Surely you understand the possible good this terror can become. You were there!
Brock: We were trained soldiers for one second and then a toddler with a stick another...
Feartopia: Yeah I thought that too.
Brock:Gah, maybe. But what do you need me for?
Feartopia: I need an off shore supplier
Brock: Wait, off shore? You don't live here anymore?
Feartopia: I do right now. Leaving for Titan City in a few months. If I can show everyone in a city like that, that the Feartopia world can work. The rest of the world will surely see that I am right.
Brock: Ugh, man. The amount of illegality in everything you are saying...
Feartopia: Yes I know, this will get us the chair if we are caught. If we are lucky. But what if I win! I thought you would understand why I would want a world without conflict.
Brock: Yeah but just because we were raised as child soldiers, that does not mean we should force everyone to be fearful too do anything that might result in conflict, especially wars!...I, just don't know.
Feartopia: Listen. Do you know how many corrupt jobs we have done for money? Well this time you would be doing a job for money with the outcome being good in the long run!
Brock: Ah wait, I will be getting paid?
Feartopia: Of course, I will be getting money for the equipment costs as well as a little extra for the effort.
Brock: Hmmm, winning me over...Will I be at risk?
Feartopia: No. Unless you make a mistake.
Brock: So I will be at risk.
Feartopia: Hmph, yeah probably. I'll bail you out if it comes to that
Brock: Gotcha.
Feartopia: Well?
Feartopia holds out his hand for a handshake
Brock: F**k it. As long as you keep your word on saving my a**
Brock accepts the handshake.
Brock: Done a lot of illegal stuff before. Why stop now? Oh and by the way. Why meet up in this place?
Feartopia: Not many people come here. Besides, you thought I was dead. Seemed fitting.
Brock: Really? That's your reason?
Feartopia: Ugh. There's also a good burger joint nearby alright! Starving. Remember their stuff being good.
Brock: Hah! Alright let's get going. You are going to make me a lot of money in the future anyways. So how about I pay for this one.
Both Feartopia and Brock head off toward the burger joint. While catching up on what they have been up to.

The Present

At the docks of Titan City, Feartopia in disguise is waiting for a shipment from Brock, who is now going under the alias Styx. Once the ship arrives at the cover of night, some of Feartopia's soldiers come and move some of the crates. While they are moving the cargo, Feartopia and Styx sit on a bench overlooking the ocean.

Styx: What are you planning?
Feartopia: Nothing yet. Just restocking for the next trip. Recovering from the Circus
Styx: Did you take home a souvenir?
Feartopia nods
Feartopia: A lot of crazy stuff happened. It was chaotic, but I would be lying if I said it wasn't fun. Our tour guide made me almost lose track of time however, annoying lady.
Feartopia looks around and radios in
Feartopia: Anyone? Hm? Alright, keep a look out.
Feartopia nods at Styx
Feartopia: We don't need to use code words anymore, we should be good. Did you get in contact with our new member of the “team”?
Styx: The crow lady. Nope, only heard about her from you. From what you said. Don't want to.
Feartopia: After having to...deal with her a few times, really don't blame you. So, onward to business.
Styx: Okay. Okay making sure the order is correct here. From the cost of some of this equipment you've ordered, seems like something big is coming.
Feartopia: You would be correct. So the order?
Styx: Full body power armor with some technologically enhanced shock absorbing plates throughout the suit with extra in the arms.
Feartopia: Check.
Styx: Full helmet neurally connected to the powersuit with tactical display visors on the inside while a image display screen on the outside. As you asked we already put in those glowing purple lights as eyes in the software. Built in radio. Sound compensation headphones. Is that it?
Feartopia: Yes. For the helmet.
Styx: Okay good. Next is a custom heavy machine gun with an undermounted grenade launcher as well as flame, gas, smoke, and explosive grenades for the mentioned grenade launcher. Laser sighted. Camera linked to your visor. Danm near uncountable amount of armor piercing rounds, danm. Wish I had one of these. Sure you can afford all of this stuff. Not gonna give you these for free just because of our past.
Feartopia nods his head and motions at him to continue.
Feartopia: Check. Next?
Styx: Alright. A compact collapsible shotgun attached to the left arm of the powersuit via a mechanical slider. With an automatic mechanism built in that uncollapses itself once launched.
Feartopia: Check.
Styx: Custom heavy pistol. Similar but smaller armor piercing rounds. Similar amount too. Laser sighted. Extended clip.
Feartopia: Check.
Styx: Utility belt with four, six or so pouches.
Feartopia: Full of...?
Styx: Small arrowhead shapped grenades meant to be thrown from the looks of it. Small too. Various different types of grenades as well. High explosive, shocking, EMP, and gas. When there isn't a grenade there are shells and clips.
Feartopia: Check.
Styx: And a combat knife. Very sharp too. Simple but effective.
Feartopia: Was already starting to be a bit pricey. Not a CQC expert anyways. That was you remember?
Styx: Ah, gotcha. Next is...I can see where the money went, danm. An anti gravity propulsion field emitter? Okay first off. You are not a super scientist, curious where you got this stuff.
Feartopia: Before my base got raided awhile back. I had some technicians in my army that informed me of some of this tech. They also gave me some blueprints and instructions to build it in a data chip. I mean I couldn't build it from scratch, but they manged to build a simplified version of it. Once I got the simplified version I just gave it to some company off shores who are discrete. Once the device was made, I began to understand the device myself. Better at looking at tech directly instead of on blueprints you know. So after it was given to me I could repair and maintain it on my own from there.
Styx: Yeah. Well danm. So yeah, those located in the arms and legs of the power suit.
Feartopia: Check, yes.
Styx: Alright. Energy high powered propulsion at the bottom of the powersuit's boots. Assuming those are used in combination to your anti-grav field, or whatever?
Feartopia: Check and yes.
Styx: Quite a few rifles. Some pistols, machine guns of various sizes. Ammuntion. Body armor. Guessing all of this is correct but just making sure. Battle knives. Gas masks. Frag grenades. Stun grenades...
Feartopia: Check, check, check. Okay listen, I am going to assume you have everything. At least everything that I need.
Styx: Okay good glad that's out of the way. Now we can talk while your guys are unloading So yeah, about that lady. That's what pissed you off? Being off your schedule? Not several of your soldiers dying? I mean, yeah, I understand that you don't even treat them as human beings anymore. I get it. With how much Onyx Gate is being pumped through them, don't even know if I should call them human. But that's still a heavy loss.
Feartopia: They don't have any real information on Onyx Gate, I heard from a bug I planted at the TCPD precinct that they have basic compound information. But they don't know the source.
Styx: I still think you need to take that information by any means. They could make some sorta antidote or something.
Feartopia: That's impossible remember? Or did I tell you about that aspect of Onyx Gate?
Styx: You have been to busy creating this “world without conflict” to inform me of anything now-a-days.
Feartopia: Ah, well. As you know, there is a 2nd compound, this when combined with the beetle and plants extract makes Onyx Gate more persistent than the individual extracts.
Styx: Meaning?
Feartopia: Once Onyx Gate is pumping through their system, Onyx Gate will constantly change and evolve. Which wont change Onyx Gate's effects, but instead as soon as doctors create a cure for Onyx Gate, the cure will already be obsolete. So I say, let them keep that data, it'll give them hope I can crush
Styx: Danm man. That's kinda messed up.
Feartopia: Just a fear technique I mastered over the years.
Styx: That ego sure hasn't change.
Feartopia: If you were anyone else I would have had you shot.
Styx: Heh, yay for me.
Feartopia: They're almost done unloading. Operation Key to the Gate is almost a go.
Styx: First operation in what? One year, two? You feeling nervous.
Feartopia: No. I am excited. I no longer have an army. No longer have a large base. I have enough Onyx Gate to function for quite awhile, but once the operation starts that supply will dwindle fast.
Styx: That sounds like something to be nervous about. Not excited
Feartopia: This will force me to cause fear without uses of Onyx Gate or equipment. It will just be like back in the Tribal incident. Minus the (ahem) stuff I had to do.
Feartopia's soldiers give the signal that they are done unloading and start heading toward the vans that they came in. Styx and Feartopia nod at each other followed by them starting to leave. Styx stops and turns around to speak.
Styx: Hey! You sure you don't need me to help you do some work. It'll cost some money of course, but looks like you might need the extra help.
Feartopia: Hmhmhm. I'm good, thanks for the offer. Oh and as usual funds have already been transferred!
Styx nods and waves while moving towards the ship to depart. Feartopia then starts to remark to himself while move toward the car he came in.
Feartopia: Now that I have equipment. First phase of Operation Key to the Gate is ready. Utopia is almost within reach.

Alright. Origin story complete. Don't think I left any details unsaid about the character, while also showing his personality throughout the years. Don't think there is any plot holes either, but who knows. Also tried to not have it just be an exposition fest, there are a few times where it becomes that however, but don't think it's too bad. Feartopia is now locked down, set in stone. Can't wait until he becomes a reality.
