Feartopia - Chapter 3/4

Prison Warden: Can you PLEASE tell me why MY prison looks like a warzone!?
Guard: It was Feartopia sir. They captured Feartopia and one of our psychiatrist deemed it necessary to give the inmate an evaluation.
Prison Warden: Annnd?
Guard: Well sir, just watch this. There was a camera in the room that they were in. It recorded everything.

Jenny: I am here with the man that calls himself “Feartopia”. Speaking of which, can you tell me your real name.
Feartopia: No
Jenny: No?
Feartopia: You can call me Feartopia.
Jenny: If that is what you prefer...
Feartopia: It is not what I PREFER. It is correct.
Jenny then lets out a small sigh and continues...
Jenny: Can we start with your childhood?
Feartopia: Nothing of interest.
Jenny: Hmm? Really, nothing?
Feartopia: Yes. Can we continue? Or are you going to strap me to the chair already? I am quite the monster apparently.
Jenny: Yes, we can continue. What about before you became “Feartopia”?
Feartopia: Hmhmhm, correct choice. Oh doctor do I have a good story for you.
Feartopia clears his throat.
Feartopia: It started ten years ago. Oh I am sorry, but can I get one of those bed chairs?
Jenny: We do not have one of those here.
Feartopia: Ah. That's a shame. So be it. So where was I? Oh right, it started ten years ago when I was apart of an mercenary group sent to a jungles of, umm, bah I can't remember. It might come to me later, but anyways we were sent there to kill a local warlord that has been terrorizing the nearby populace. One of the few times I actually did something good as a mercenary. Usually it's killing some family to “send a message”.
Feartopia chuckles at the memory.
Feartopia: I was told it would be a simple mission. From what we were told they were using swords, spears, bows and arrows. Meanwhile, we had rifles, explosives and trained combat experience. It was like adults picking a fight with a toddler, “this is going to be easy” we said. It should have been, but oh my were we wrong. We went into the jungle and we were greeted with hanging mummified bodies, webs covered with seemingly demonic spiders, a heavy fog was also in the area. It was something straight out of a horror movie. Even I was affected! I could tell by the looks on the faces of everyone else that they were much more frightened than me, by quite the large margin. The horror movie theme continues with rustling in the bushes with shadowy figures darting from bush to bush, tree to tree, shortly followed by these tribal warriors with masks that looks like a plank of wood with a skinned face attached to it. Creepy stuff. Their disturbing visage combined with the area that we were fighting in, caused some of my men to flee. The rest of us were shaken and made stupid, STUPID mistakes! We were falling left and right until it was just me and three others. Wanting to live, we of course surrendered. They put sacs over our heads and placed us in a very disturbing cell. I was a trained merc and even I gagged at the smell in this room. Carcasses of animals, skin, innards, makes me sick just thinking about it. Not a pretty sight. It was at this point I started to realize something. If we were thinking straight at all. We could have won. I mean, I knew intimidation tactics. Did it a few times before. But this. This was something different. This was pure horror. I loved it!
Jenny: Excuse me?
Feartopia: They were controlling us through fear alone. Not fear and weaponry. They could have killed us with a toothpick if they wanted to. I respected these people as much as I feared them and that's saying something! So again, I. Loved. It!
Jenny: Wouldn't you hate it? Hate them for doing all these horrible things to you and your team?
Feartopia: Oh we were friends. Hard not to grow attached to someone when you work with them for a long period of time and have to also rely on them. However, how could I hate people for being a master at causing this much fear? Now can I continue?
Jenny: Y-yes.
Feartopia once again clears his throat then looks up at the ceiling, trying to remember where he was at.
Feartopia: So... there I was, stuck in a vomit inducing cell with rot and decay all around me. Thinking about how I could escape. That is when I heard something that would save my life. One of the guards got startled by what sounded like a vermin outside. “They were masters at causing fear, but they aren't as immune to fear as I assumed” I thought. I looked for some sort of weapon, which led me to finding a sharpish rock. I then killed my fellow mercs. Afte-
Jenny: Wait, you killed your own friends? How could you do that?
Feartopia: My story will take all day with these interruptions doctor! But if you must know, it was easy on the first two. Then the 3rd started to fight back, which made things complicated.
Jenny: Why would you do such a horrible thing.
Feartopia: Well to answer that I need continue the story. So, I killed and began to devour them
Before Jenny can react Feartopia holds up a hand, telling her to let him finish.
Feartopia: The reaction of the guards was exactly what I wanted. Frantic shouting in a tongue I didn't understand, but a language I did. As my mercenary allies were speaking it earlier that day. Over the next few hours I dug into my former allies. Pulling out bones and fashioning a crude lock pick out of them. Not very sturdy, but it works. Also needed to make a knife. Every now and then banging on the bars, growling, acting like a, well, monster. Keeping them afraid to even get near the bars. Not sure if it was luck, skill, or incompetence on the locksmith, but I managed to pick the lock on one lockpick. I doubted that my equipment that they took off of me would be near the prison, so I would have to fight my way out. The tides have turned, they had better technology than me. Them with their metal and ranged weapons, me with dirty rags and two barely held together daggers. Hmhmhm, it was like a toddler picking a fight with a fetus.
Feartopia stops to remember the next part while chuckling at that thought.
Feartopia: We lost through fear, I would win through fear. Quick and without mercy I slew any of the tribesmen I encountered. Guess they didn't expect me to break out, thought I was content with just eating my own men. Each tribesman I killed gave me better weapons and other bits of useful equipment. Then I found it, a heavily guarded building. Clearly the building is holding something of value, possibly even my equipment I thought. It would be difficult however, they know I've escaped, I wasn't the assassin I thought I was. Whats worse, two of them decided to take some of the my men's equipment. Then it hit me, I thought “wait, we had guns but we were completely wiped out” that is when I noticed the dead tribesman nearby. I ripped that corpse apart and drenched myself in his blood. Glad he didn't have any blood transmutable diseases. To instill a little fear before I went in. A seed of fear if you will. I lobbed the head of the tribesman over one of huts right in front of the 2 armed guards. After I heard their reaction I went around to prepare to attack them from the other side while they are looking toward where I threw the head of their fellow tribesman. They were so focused on aiming at where I threw the head that they didn't hear me coming. With my utterly horrid visage, the 2nd tribesman was to petrified with fear to fight back.
Feartopia said this while dragging his thumb across his throat
Feartopia: Pretty impressive don't you think?
Jenny: Hm? Ah, yes. Now would you please continue?
Feartopia: Hmhmhm, of course. With some of my gear back, I really wasn't afraid of them anymore. Which in a way, saddened me. But all good things must eventually come to an end. There were around twenty tribesmen in there, rounding down a bit if anything. They tried their fear tactics again. I was impressed with their acting. I must have looked like the devil himself and yet they still tried to put the fear into me. But theatrics can't stop bullets. After they were all taken care of, I decided to open some doors to see what was being protected here. Some food and water stored in barrels. Swords, spears, shields, and various other weapons. The last door was this fancy ornate looking double door, it was locked. I thought my equipment might be through that door. As soon as I kicked down the door I saw someone with a rifle aiming at me. Thinking fast I dashed to the right and took cover behind the wall with bullets whizzing past me.
Jenny: You don't have to explain every action Feartopia
Without stopping Feartopia continued.
Feartopia: Once the bullets stopped I went in with suppressing fire. He was taking cover behind a stone throne. It was the chieftain. Continuing to barrage his location I dashed forward and grabbed the chieftain by surprise and slammed him to the ground while grabbing the gun away from him. Classic maneuver. I peaked behind the throne to see my baby, a custom assualt rifle, high power and accurate. I was absolutely ecstatic to see it. Hmph, they said I was paranoid for “wasting” money on a DNA lock. As if on queue, some more tribesmen started storming in. Poor fools, blew them away with the grenade that was already in the undermounted grenade launcher. With all the chaos dying down, I actually had time to look at my surroundings. This room was filled with various glass cases with bugs and plants. But I didn't have time to investigate further. I got on top of the chieftain and tied his hands with the rope that I picked up from their storage. Needed a VIP hostage so I can just walk out and walk out I did. There was not many left of them out there, and with me having their chief as a hostage, they weren't going to try anything. I left that country and my old life. Took a plane to Titan City and, well, you saw the news.
Jenny: Okay, I have some questions Feartopia-
Feartopia: May I ask a question first. Then I will answer any question you have. What time is it?
Jenny: Huh? Oh, it's 8:29.
Feartopia: PM or AM please. Got to make sure
Jenny: PM but-
Feartopia: Good, thought I would be behind schedule.
Jenny: What do you-
A large explosion rings out somewhere in the prison interrupting Jenny. The explosion causes Jenny to look behind her at the door. Feartopia reveals that he managed to somehow unlock his cuffs as he reaches for Jenny and slams her head three times on the table followed by a blow to the temple while shouting “Never. Interrupt me. Again!”, knocking her out. Feartopia calms down and goes to open the door but right when it seems hes going to open it, he reaches back and grabs Jenny's unconscious body and prepares for something. A few seconds later the door slides open to two officers yelling “freeze!” As soon as it opens Feartopia tosses the unconscious Jenny through the door and dashes outward. This is followed by multiple gunshots and sounds of a struggle which ends with a yelp of pain from two men one right after the other. Feartopia comes back into the room dragging the 2 officers in then starts stripping one of the guards and puts on the outfit. Feartopia then sits back down puts one of the pistols on the table and casually waits. A few minutes later, the door slides open once more. Feartopia nods and then looks at the camera to smile with another nod.

The guard stops the video there, as nothing else seems to happen.
Guard: He then left soon afterwards. Sir.
Prison Warden: Danm. I want a casualty report and I need to know how many prisoners escaped.
Guard: Yes sir!
The warden in a huff turns around and starts heading out of the security room, but is stopped as a knife juts through his sternum.
Prison Warden: Hrk! Wh-w-what?
The Guard pulls out the knife, causing the Prison Warden stumble forward and then fall to the ground dead. He proceeds to takes out an EMP device and tosses it at the controls and detonates it. Causing everything to be shut down and all equipment in the room to be fried. A few seconds after the detonation, the fake guard starts to hyperventilate. Eyes starts darting in seemingly random directions. He starts trying to avert his gaze in every direction. The very idea of life starts to feel dreadful in the mind of the guard. To avoid life, the guard takes the closest weapon, which happens to be the knife hes holding and slits his own throat.

Two weeks later

Feartopia, in disguise enters a motel room and sits down with a shrouded figure.
Feartopia: Did you see it?
Shrouded Figure: Of course, such an offer is hard to refuse. Also thanks for assisting me. Now, how much of your tale was honest?
Feartopia: Left out information. But everything I said was true. Well besides not having time to look at the bugs and plants. I looked at those, and they are now what makes Onyx Gate. I guess I was also a tad bit less confident in my (ahem) “actions”.
Shrouded Figure: You offer promise. You will hold up your end of the bargain, correct? You know you don't want to lie to me child.
Feartopia: Of course not, I would never do such a thing. I will give you your test subje-
Shrouded Figure: Fllleeesh
The whole room echos with the word, as if the walls themselves spoke.
Feartopia: Uhh....Yes, in return you will help me with Ahal Puana. My little fear elemental has been causing some issues.
Shrouded Figure: What do you even need this little soul for? I assumed the Onyx Gate is your tool of chaos and terror?
Feartopia: Hmhmhm you are almost correct. Onyx Gate is a combination of the beetle and plants. The beetle secretes a juice that induced a certain fear response to avoid looking at the beetle. The plant is the opposite, they create the fear effect of dread. Causing any animal to want to keep their eyes on the plant as if the plant had a knife. If you dissect the bug's juice sac and gather the roots of the plant, the toxins from both become concentrated. Creating the same effect, but directed to no where in particular. Victims will just avoid or focus their gaze towards nothing. This effectively creates a form of nervousness, useful, but not what I want. This is where the elemental comes in, the elemental isn't that strong but the elemental can create a “picture” for the victim's fear to latch onto. This uses the victims own mind against them, as their mind automatically makes this fear “real” to them, no matter how bizarre the fear is. Ahal Puana creates the picture, while their mind makes the picture move, powered by Onyx Gate.
Shrouded Figure: A fusion of modern technology and magic. Intriguing. I need to know where you picked up this disobedient soul. What type of magic was used to bind Ahal Puana to that gauntlet attached to your arm?
Feartopia: You know the chieftain? He was a shaman. Again, left out some information. Need to have precautions just in case my plan failed in some way you see. He didn't tell me what type of magic and even if he did I wouldn't know what he was talking about. Magic is not my forte.
Shrouded Figure: Hmmm. I am certain I know what type of magic is at work here. I shall assist you with this. Something has been burdening my mind as of late however. Why “Feartopia”?
Feartopia: I wish for a world where no conflict occurs via fear overpowering every other emotion. A utopia of fear itself. I am the very concept of this, I am that Feartopia.
Shrouded Figure: Hohoho, you are an interesting one indeed. Answer me, what is your next tale?
Feartopia: Well Doctor Nevermore. When I was raided they killed more men than I expected. Even more in the prison raid. Army is diminished, base is compromised, only my emergency gear I hid remains as well as a few Onyx Gate infected civilians. Not even strong civilians. Even though I have a contact to get me some equipment, it's going to take a big hit to my money reserves.
Doctor Nevermore: Future looks dark.
Feartopia: Dark, hmph. Dim at best. My objective should be to hide, get some better equipment and wait for my moment to strike. When I do, Titan City will become pacified through fear. After the dust settles, they shall praise me for my heroism.

He detaches the gauntlet and hands it to Doctor Nevermore, nods, then leaves. As he is on his way to his car, he looks back to where the door to the motel room used to be. He proceeds to think out loud...

Feartopia: Wonder if Styx will approve of this new member of the "team". Hmph.
