I thought that the bit about Opal being able to defend herself was just that, rather than an indication that her powers are the reason that the Opal Room became a sort of neutral ground / DMZ. After all, "Making a scene in here wouldn’t just get the kid killed; it’d embarrass Castilucci, and through him, the Black Rose. Father Omerta wouldn’t be happy." To me that indicates that anyone who causes trouble there would have as much to fear from their own organization as anyone else.

It'd be interesting to know what keeps the independents in line. Is it just that they like to have a place where they can relax and let their guard down a bit? Is Opal Palinski a power broker par excellence? Does she have family in positions of power who would cause a serious dust up if she were threatened? Is she just that lucky?

I think all Doc meant was that the lore update was only the first one in July; why conclude there would be no tech update for the rest of July when most of the month is still ahead of us?

Because I stayed up too late last night, I see that as an "after" picture. This week, we would be saying no to drugs, alcohol, and tobacco. After next week's Tobacconist Update, tobacco will have been crossed off. After three updates, we won't say no to anything.
