Got a weird request here: if there's gonna be giant spiders at any point, could we get ones that move realistically like actual spiders? No slow lumbering around, I mean go all out for the creepiness factor, have them sit motionless and wait most of the time, and react to proximity with short bursts of huge speed, eg: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PXbjBcQCFO0
Starts at the 52 mark on that video.
They shouldn't be slow, giant spiders could be stealth predators and the fastest natural enemy in the game, IMO.
Tarantulas move slow and carefully, but they can also really run when they want to.
Thoughts?

You're going to make the aranchnophobes cry if you put that in.
I recall people finding the Arachnos Tarantula Mistresses really unnerving to look at. Let alone the aranchnoids....

Tarantulas, Crab Spiders, Bane Spiders, Arachnoids, LORD RECLUSE?
I always found his naming scheme silly. Who would name everything after their gimmick?
Now excuse me while I pace around Castle Nightmare and try to come up with a way to get the Nightmare Cultists to spread the glory of the Nightmare outside of Nightmare Island.

It will need a whole new skeleton, but if you animate it right it will be one of the most unique, and scary events on the web.

So i was thinking it could be cool if some enemies used the wall crawling ability. I suspect a spider could be ideal for that.
"THE TITANS ARE COMING! THE TITANS ARE COMING!"
As long as the last enemy doesn't get glitched in the wall and can't be attacked like in CoX lol

I counldn't find a pic from CoH which I am very surprised about, cause it happened all the time!

Just go on Champions, happens a LOT there when you use a knockback against an enemy on certain areas.
Can completely ruin an alert with it.

I'd say given the amount of people on these forums with severe arachnophobia (including several of the devs) it probably won't happen sadly. I like the idea. I thought I had found a great spider image for the "Spider Climb" power but I had to pull it because of the anxiety attacks. :'(

You may still get to use it ... just not for Wall Climbing. Keep it in the inventory for later use in a different context.

I agree with Red, I really liked that first image of the spider climb power you had. I'm sure there will be some future use for it. With grapples being a thing, maybe a spider type power set could be in the future :D

Not to sound insensitive to people with arachnophobia, and I could be opening a can of worms here, but I don't think that should prevent the inclusion of giant spider enemies - whether actual spiders or similar creatures. We had an entire spider-themed villain group in CoH after all.
Let's look at it another way; what if a number of players and/or devs have pyrophobia? Do we nix any kind of fire-based powers as well?
Trying to accommodate as many people in a game is a noble endeavor, but this can also go too far.
*Uses Space moose as a weapon to annihilate spider, jumps out widow and then kills it with fire, just to be safe*

I'm ONE OF THEM and I want it! sigh. Guess some folks aroun here need to man/woman up. Oh well.
This gave me the creeps but still made for a better game: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=khz6BZ4X1DI

I agree.
Making any "spider content" (and similar phobias) be a fully optional minor sidearc that is clearly labeled would remove effectively all issues. Only possible remaining issue that I can think of right now would be for completionists but honestly they'll just have to "suffer" through it, or more likely get people to help them through it.
Or it could be excluded from any form of completion path, being completely optional

I have a fear of fire and giant robots.....
Or the devs could just not worry about it, and be free to include whatever enemies or power effects they want (within the Teen rating of course). I know an Archnophobe - she freaks out about real spiders but has no real issue with cartoon or animated ones onscreen (she finds them "icky" but is otherwise okay). Only a TINY fraction of a percent of people will have any real issues with giant spiders in-game.
Thank you!

I agree with you, I'm nowhere near an arachnaphobe, but the concern was for people who are. So with that to think about it's hard to say, who cares, forget about it. Now your friend might be okay with cartoon spiders, but the Dev's are trying to cater to everyone, event those who are afraid of cartoon spiders.

I don't understand why arachnophobia should prevent spider-themed foes from appearing in the game. People are scared of many, many things. I'm severely terrified of needles and sharp objects, yet it shouldn't be a reason knives and sharper objects should be absent from some of the criminals found throughout the world. Kept within a Teen rating, anything can be done well even if some are afraid of them - fears shouldn't limit what is done.
I would LOVE some great spiders in the game, and while I fear them (not to the extent of an arachnophobe), it'd only make the encounter that much more memorable and immersive. Heck, throw in a needle-covered villain that rips you to shreds... It'll be in my nightmares and haunt me, but it's something that can be done really well, be really cool, and shouldn't be banned simply because I fear it.
I will guide you in the night.
