Hi,
In the forums there doesn't seem to be a way to change the number of posts per page. The last thread I opened was 91 posts on the first page. It'd be nice, in terms of catching up on long threads, if we could limit that number to 20 posts per page or have that as something that could be changed in the user settings. I didn't see that as a option currently. I've seen some talk of switching to a new forums soon(TM) so maybe that is something that will be included.
On a similar note, I would like a different UI I find the current forums to be a bit clunky. The save and preview thing kinda threw me through a loop the first time and it doesn't really stand out so I sometimes scroll past it...

i dont have a solution to your problem, but the clunkyness can be ironed out with some CSS found here:
http://cityoftitans.com/forum/forum-text-it-shrank (last post should have the latest CSS changes)
But you will need a CSS Styles Add-in for your browser
Heres a YouTube video that walks you though how it might work:

This is something that we have been waiting for the best part of year. Apparently there is a bug in the forum code which "disappeared" when the standard view per page was increased to this limit.
This could also be as to why you cannot quote the original post in a thread (another very annoying bug)
You can quote the original post, it's just not as easy.

Oh indeed you can.
If you know the BBCode for it (which thankfully I do). Not everyone does. Just like the people who throw links into the page, without actually knowing you can give it another text instead of the link text.
But sometimes, just sometimes... the button is easier, as it fills in some information for you. And also includes all the nice < p> tags that it tends to insert to keep the formatting the same.
Not sure if they are needed... but if not that is a minor convenience
