Forgive me if this has been posted; I looked but didn't find it.
Assuming the game will be available outside of the United States, what is the vision for world-wide server distribution? As an international player, the question has real consequence to me.
I saw that the game would be available in English, French, German, (others?) but will those players be running around the same servers and cities, or will there be segregation (either voluntary or imposed) ? If segregated, will it be by language or location?
These really are very important questions. When I was playing CoH, there were American servers, and Euro servers. And if you bought the Euro version, you absolutely could not play on American servers. As an expat American, that was not really great for me. The American community simply had a much larger base of English speakers (and was the home of EuroCore - a group of European players on American Victory)
Obviously there are technical reasons for using local servers; one would certainly expect better pings, but I rarely had problems (and this was back when I was still on ISDN I think.)
Some people despise having foreign language speakers on their server (just spend some time playing Dota2 on Western Europe servers.) Some people don't want to struggle with their host nation language when they are playing a game.
So what do we do?

With great power, comes the need for great heat sinks
As I understand it, CoT will have one server, spawning shards of whatever districts or neighborhoods are getting full as needed. I'd hope it would be relatively easy to start, for example, a French language chat channel.

We obviously don't know all the details yet but considering the small scale kickstarter nature of this game my current assumption is that there's not going to be multiple "local" physical servers spread around the world unless/until individual players are allowed to establish them for themselves after the game's initial launch.
With that I'm expecting we'll all start out on a single "official" mega-server and play on that at least in the beginning. While the game might allow your client to be in German, French, etc. I suspect there won't be any "imposed segregation" on the main server as far as what languages people can use in chat.
I could be wrong but in general I wouldn't overthink what the game's going to be able to offer in the "dedicated local/language server" department.
