This is the OOC thread for the Strong, Strong Wind thread.
RP Type: Open RP
Theme: Character development, action, saving the city from eco-terrorist plots, the music and entertainment scene in Titan City. I will steer the thread somewhat through character and NPC posts, but I expect the thread to wander considerably, based on the ideas thrown into the mix. I will bring the part of the thread that involves my characters to a plot close at some point, probably in late summer/early fall 2015.

For the Riverhaven Tower, a cylindrical 35 story apartment tower with two 4 story main/lower wings and a supergroup base underneath it, on a moderately-sized riverfront campus, including some swimmable beach, I'm thinking Aurora. The A Wing of the complex has a medical facility, resident services, offices, labs, athletic center, underground parking, and the robot laundry service. The B Wing holds the Event Horizon nightclub, with restaurant, open to the public. Public parking is open lot on the campus and discreetly (and safely) distant from the main Riverhaven entrance. Riverhaven should be a sort of "gated metahuman community" that provides comfort and high security without being visible or in-your-face about it.

Back story: Jacob Mackenzie was a fisherman from Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia. He spent long months away from his family at a time at sea and when he returned home, he was always accepted with open arms. It was a simple, happy life.
One day, life in that small Cape Breton town flipped upside down. Many of the people around town started developing strange abilities, Jacob included. At first he noticed that he was much stronger and his skin was tougher, Then came moving pebbles with his will, and eventually boulders. Unlike him, however, many of the townspeople's mutations turned them into fish-like monsters. They were rejected by society almost immediately and were forced to live on the fringes of the town. They banded together and became known as "The Shark Gang," constantly stirring up trouble in town, looting and pillaging. Jacob was forced to give up his life at sea to become the sol protector or the town from The Shark Gang.
One day, during a fierce battle with The Shark Gang that leveled half the town, the military was called in. Jacob was apprehended, he was sent to a mysterious group that experimented on meta-humans and was locked away with 3 other metas. Stryker, Inferno, and Blacklight were their codenames and his was Stone. Together they were referred to as "Project Elemental". They were tested on vigorously for months until they eventually were able to work together to escape. They traveled together, running from city to city, helping people overcome superhuman threats for the next 2 years. They then decided to go their separate ways due to differing goals.
Jacob wanted to return to a simple, quiet life and be left alone. When he returned tried to return home, he discovered that it had become a military facility where metahumans were being studied. He retreated and found work on a delivery vessel. Now, he sails from city to city delivering cargo and as much as he tried to keep out of trouble, it always seems to find him.
Notes:
-Stone's armor is his costume, he doesn't wear a suit.
-He avoids fighting and keeps to himself whenever possible, but when he sees someone in trouble he can't help but step in and help.
-His thick accent and Novascotian slang makes him hard to understand at times.
-He's skeptical when he first meets someone, but get on his good side and he can easily become a great friend and ally.
- He knows when to fight and when to run, but would more likely sacrifice himself than leave another in danger.
- He can hold his liquor better than most.
- Tries to only use lethal force when absolutely necessary.

Considering how modern and new Riverhaven is supposed to be, my first inclination is to say Alexandria. But it's a little removed from the majority of the rest of the city and I don't feel like that would be the Titan's groove. They'd want to be in the heart of things.
With that in mind, I'm going to say Aurora or Downtown. Possibly Liberty Harbor once we get more information on it.

She does. It covers from her hairline to just below her cheekbones. It incorporates technology that futzes with facial recognition programs. Also, through the use of some proprietary Promethean Dynamics nanotechnology, she changes her eye color, hair color, and skin tone.

I'm tempted to join in. Not sure who to bring to the party. Part of me is tempted to RP my AI android ALX32 or "Alex" even thought he's not a good fellow he's subdued. He might even play along with the heroes if he felt it benefited him.
Only other Alt that itching to be realised is a homeless man. A revamped version of what became Unknown. This fellow going to be pure human or maybe metahuman still thinking of ideas kind of toying with a Rat King (yes I mean the TMNT character Rat King) as a starting base. However I don't see him fitting into the fancy local. Perhaps as a story contact his rats would be very useful spies.

Well I couldn't resist I posted a bit from Scavenger. Very much like the Ratking from TMNTs just much more sane.
I could use a few ideas to buff him up abit. All I got in my mind is he was burned maybe ex military that could give him some fighting training. Or I go with the Mental aspect and give him much more powerful Psychic powers then just telepath with rats. I was going to do that anyway it just easier for him to affect rats, lack of training could account for this.

I think I will go with the Psychic powers for Scavenger. Also beside his pet Rat he might also have a Raven friend. Basically he's a LOST just not sure what his origin really is.

Yeah ment phosphorescent. A mastermind didn't think of that but it does fit.
Would be different from other mms his minons being so small. So would have to limit how many he can mentally dominate. To many and his mental focus fragments. All those minds even small would put a strain on his own. I like the idea makes him more original.

I didn't play them much, but as I recall, one of the things Masterminds did was improve their 'troops'. So you could come up with some way for him to improve whichever vermin he controls. If you're going with him only being able to control a certain amount of creatures, I'd suggest sticking with the rats. Rats are clever, loyal, sweet, and all-around awesome.

Yeah, when the Rat King sent out his rodent spies, I just had to have Sir Sings Loudly notice one. Even if he doesn't (normally) bother chasin' mice around...^_^
And since Mei-Ling Kowalski is already established in other threads as an acquaintance of both Sings Loudly and Gunni, connecting one to the other was fairly easy.

Noticed a few spelling errors. Rping on my phone will correct when I get home.
Toying with the idea Scavenger was mutated more than just his mind. That the mutating compounds that were in the lab when he was nearly burned to death changed his DNA as well. If those compounds act like the ooze from TMNT he could have been mutated with rat dna. So he would also be part rat. How much or even if i'm not sure.
The mutagen I will have it gave them mental powers. That however don't explain the semi-human look and mental level.
What do you all think? He still scared and keeps his himself as covered as possible. I have also changed the big ape like black rat Brian to be named Pinky. Why... why not I just think it's funny the biggest of them all named Pinky, and I'm visualizing him not being on the bright side of mental enhancement.

The Green Line is a large night club and grill. It caters to new music, eco-friendly patrons, and an earth-friendly vibe. The club portion holds about 800 people, and the restaurant 200. The Green Line staff have sustainable business suppliers for all ingredients and grow much of their own produce and spices. (Google the Duluth Grill or duluthgrill.com for the restaurant concept. Pretty fascinating, and very tasty food.) As you might expect, Gayle Force is a regular performer and diner at the Green Line.

Sorry, those are two different songs. I wasn't clear enough in my post.
1. So Sue Me - This song was about being sued by people at a concert, the concert promoters, the other bands, and people completely unrelated to the incident after something happened that could not have been predicted or controlled. It is a "let it go" kind of song.
2. The GMO Blues - One of Gayle's favorite little sayings is, "Don't be too hard on GMOs! After all, I am one!" (She is a third-generation mutant.)

Gayle and the band are on stage warming up. Just a routine part of their Green Line performance.
My sense of the timeline was that Gunni, Rotten Luck, and the other heroes were going to be arriving before the performance, and about the time that Gayle Force goes on for their sound checks and warm-up. The concert itself will start about an hour after this warm-up piece.
NOTE: I will hold off on actions from the dupes... um, I mean Badger and Jules... and the Cardinal until you guys give me an OOC or IC hint that you're pretty much ready to go.

Additional background and info on the Green Line and its setup. (From a draft of Chapter 5 of the next book.) I set the seating at 650, though my 800 capacity estimate still stands, with standing room.
A line of people snaked smoothly and quickly into the Green Line as the club began to fill. Some diners from the restaurant section of the club casually wandered into the concert hall and dance floor through the wide interior doors. The 650-seat club portion of the Green Line was an open, airy space that somehow managed to create the feel of an open-air concert venue. A ring of picnic tables circled around the dance floor. The high-tech recycled wood flooring was unusually comfortable for either dancing or standing. There were two bars in the big room, and both were set up to allow the bartenders to rapidly serve a lot of thirsty patrons. The whole establishment was firmly committed to sustainability. This extended to its award-winning organic recipes, locally-sourced ingredients, its energy independence, and the rooftop compost gardens and freshers. It was no surprise that the place was an incredible draw for the green crowd of Venture City.
Gayle Force was not only a regular act at the Green Line, but a major investor, as well. Gayle took pride in sponsoring several new acts each quarter, though she mostly left the business decisions to her trusted management firm. She showed up to eat or listen on nights when she wasn’t performing, and so did other members of her band.
Gayle stepped out on the stage and checked the sound system, smiling at the gathering Friday night crowd. It was still an hour before the real concert. She and the guys were used to doing an impromptu live warm-up at the Green Line. It was almost a little pre-concert, interacting with the crowd, no pressure and no problem. The regulars at the Green Line loved it, and it created more regulars every gig they did. She waved to the crowd. “Hiya, folks! Good to see you! Warm-up time!” She and the band started running through their preparation. Gayle made sure that her sax was mic’ed properly and that her guitar was in tune and ready to rock. The noodling and tuning of the band went on as they got ready.

Yep, no problem! Julius is closer to being a hero than he could possibly realize, and Danny is more of a bully wannabe than he imagines. The Cardinal... now there will be an interesting guy to meet! He's waiting in the wings.
There is a set-up that has to happen before the Cardinal can activate his plan. We'll see what happens as action moves forward. I may have to have him improvise, but that's part of the fun of these things. *grin*

There a reason I say that. Players should strive to throw the GM a curve ball from time to time. Force him/her to be creative. The same goes for the GM exploiting holes in the players logic and testing there wits, cunning, and RP skills. If all those work well together nothing goes as planned.

My wife *always* throws in curveballs. She is well known for doing it routinely in our gaming groups. (She's also the one who once rolled a 67 on an open-ended d20 check.) That's what makes for fun, epic gaming stories long after the session.

....Considering coming up with a new character for this. I have been stuck on a blood magic/manipulation/stint for a while now after I read Deadman Wonderland. Albeit I always wondered about a power like that ever since I watched the old Avatar: The Last Airbender when I was much younger (That episode on Bloodbending remains to this day to be one of my favorite episodes. It was just...fitting how creepy it was).
Although I already have two other characters that use naturally produced bodily fluids as a weapon. Dread (his alien form is pretty much a shell of the nightmare inducing fluid that he can manipulate of course. It forms itself around his human body which very few things could penetrate for obvious reasons. He controls it like a suit with no issue but the form needs nutrients of course) and Deluder (his poison glands produce poison 24/7 and his body naturally recycles it).

Yeah... as OOC prep please start thinking of your characters' dead friends, relatives, mentors, and so on. The more traumatic and emotionally-wrenching, the better. RL is just priming the pump for the necromancer, it seems.

There been a power type I had in mind. A twist on power in the blood idea. Or if you wish the Assassin's Creed idea. A person having the power to access one at a time the skills of any ancestor he or she had. At least till the point of where that person passed on the genes to the next of kin.
So like Assassin's Creed this power person could access the skills of an Assassin, or hunter from pre-history, or the tailor.. and so on and so on. Just only one of the ancestors at a time.

On 22 February 2011, just one week after Slag and Haley Swan told their daughter Gunnhilde "the family saga", an [url=https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2011_Christchurch_earthquake]earthquake[/url] killed over 180 people in Christchurch. Gunni and several of her friends were returning from a (probably unauthorized) lunch trip into the Central City at the time, they witnessed masonry falling on a bus. It was the first time her "Valkyrie sense" kicked in, letting her know that eight people had just died... While helping to rescue people trapped in buildings in the vicinity, she "witnessed" three more deaths.
Between her youth and the fact that she never knew most of her family beyond her parents and younger brother and one older cousin (not sure how many decades older ^_^ ) who did babysitting duty a few times, this was her first encounter with death, and so far it is the one that affected her the most.
She's only been in Titan City a couple of months, and so most of her dead should be (physically, at least) in New Zealand. If any of her ghosts show up here, it might be a clue as to how Cardinal's powers work...

For Ron the most painful would be the spirit of the Kid he killed in the underground fighting. Basically spiderman just instead of wrestling it was underground fighting and Ron had more skill than a old wrestler. So yeah Ron basically killed the Titan City Universe Peter Parker. After that his mother blaming him for how his life turned. then there is the dog... someone's pet dog he doesn't know whose it was, it was how he found out he couldn't die again. And what happens when he does die, in other words. He came too after dying recovering with fresh blood in his mouth and the partly eaten dog in his hands.
The hard part is me trying to think how this would affect him. He is the avatar of HEL, she didn't exactly treat him nicely either. So don't be surprised if he just shrugs and says "Torments from my past, been there, done that."

Come to think of it I might add something from farther back. Okay lets give Ron Bolton some military background, he was in Afghanistan, Army. It could be very logical when he returned from his service he couldn't find a new job and went to the underground fighting to keep afloat. So some army buddies that he witnessed die in combat, maybe some foes he fought, could even be some children he saw die caught in the crossfire.
Again things Hel herself would use after he died. Heck I have a whole bit I still haven't written up of Hel condemning Ron for trying to kill himself (dying the second time) after she sent him back and a dog appears in her lap and she starts petting it. The dog keeps growling at him, of course when he recovers and wakes up in the real world it was the dog he killed.
The Cardinal going to have to be creative to get to Ron that way, Hel is the only being in the Norse universe who stared Odin in the eye and Odin backed down, Rotten luck her Avatar.

Sharp-eyed/sensed characters who managed to avoid the distraction of the ghost barrage would perhaps have noticed a small bird (a cardinal) fly down from the rafters as the Badger was making a ruckus. Whatever spell brought the ghosts was already in play by that time, but the bird came down to a relatively inconspicuous spot to change back into The Cardinal.
The intended effect of the super-sized swarm of ghosts seems to be a summoning--these are the real spirits of the dead, and not an illusion. The ghosts are strangely affected with disappointment for what the living have been doing or not doing to make their sacrifices worthwhile. It would be safe to assume that The Cardinal is responsible for this "undead state of mind," but it is still an untested assumption, as yet.
Powers and abilities of the ghosts are yet to be revealed, but they really are not very strong/powerful, as those who have means to assess such things can easily tell. They are controlled, slightly-enhanced, run of the mill spirits of the dead.

I'm assuming that even a super-powered sonic blast isn't going to do much to Gunni's sword, but he'll try a shatter on it.
When the control bonds are severed, the ghosts aren't forced into scary disapproval anymore, but they aren't "put back where they go" yet, either.

Speaking of such not sure if it's the ghost from his past, the fact he's drawing on Hel's power when he normally don't, or he getting comfortable with himself. Either Way he not hiding the fact he was in the fight club and was the underground champ Reaper. Note to Whipcrack he should notice this.

I will figure out whether The Cardinal's little prayer was effective after I see what Gunni's reaction/action is to the relative success of her move on his wrist/the artifact in his hand. At a minimum, I'm thinking that his wrist and fingers are immobilized, but I'm not sure if Gunni was going for something stronger or more serious.

My plan for stopping Badger is taking inspiration from a D&D game where our wizard has a barely-controlled fey beast companion that is RPed as an irascible badger named Stanley. How she stops him from rampaging is to lift him into the air, depriving him of the ability to move.
The strands will hopefully yank Badger into the air, then Whipcrack will fire two more elastic strands at his feet. He'll attach those strands to the floor, immobilizing Badger.
At least, that's the plan. ;-)

I don't think so. Being tied up 100% the tar patch slows you down. So it's holding power more along the lines of say 50%. The whips would have the greater effect. On top of that the tar patch would slow his struggling increasing the chances of him being tied up.

*chuckle* The Badger is (in game terms) just about at his Slowed cap, anyway. He has not yet manifested enough *Stubborn-Power!* (tm) to actually get a resist effect, but he is struggling forward whether or not it's a good idea. Well, Sam enacted the second part, stretching him out so he can't swing. Breaking the strands is possible, much like breaking a Green Lantern's constructs are possible. It's a battle of Sam's will versus Badger's strength now.

With a fragile enough ego, anyone can talk him- or herself into believing the worst things about someone else. And with self-talk repeating the negative over and over, that initial reaction becomes reality and gets reinforced.
In short: This is a case where Danny didn't really hear what Gayle actually said, and made it worse and worse in his head until he believed it.
I mention this just to head us off from going after who made him think that. No mind control or influence necessary to explain this. Just everyday psychology. ;)

BTW: The Cardinal is already unconscious, and needs to be watched, but there is no reason for him to wake up before he can be arrested and processed. Do we have "teleport-to-jail free" tags, like we did in CoX? I have written those in, but I can't recall if it has ever been brought up in CoT info or RP stories, yet.
